Chapter 4
A WEEK LATER
AMAYA
“Miss Amaya, Mr. Manchester has arrived and he’s waiting for you on the ground floor.” The butler announces
Thank you, Jared.” I murmur, completely besile myself with nerves.
My best friend, Jayla, put the babies to sleep a while ago. Right now, she stands beside me and together, we stare at my reflection in the floor–to–ceiling mirror.
“Girl, I’m telling you, Alpha Alistair will be beside himself with jealousy. He’ll be howling to the Moon Goddess in tears tonight!” She says excitedly.
Despite my nervousness giggle slips past my lips.
After I gave birth, I discovered that Alistair completely blocked all my bank accounts. I couldn’t leave without paying the hospital bills and although Jayla offered to pay, we were shocked when the doctors informed us that the bill had already been cleared… by Caesar.
He did not stop there. He took me to one of his penthouses where I’ve been staying throughout the past week and hired top, professional designers to prepare me for the engagement party today.
This past week, handling two newborns made me resemble a wild banshee, but right now, I can barely recognize myself.
My make–up is light and polished, enhancing my naturally sleepy eyes and high cheekbones. My hair is piled high atop my head and my dress….
It’s a red, sequined affair that hugs my figure and widens into a long skirt at the knees. The back is plunged so deep, leaving little to the imagination.
With every step I take, the sequins shimmer and glow gently. I look classic. I look like a queen.

I certainly do not look like I’ve almost slipped into depression a thousand times this week from mourning the death of both my baby and my marriage.
“Good luck, bebita. Go get ‘em!” Jayla squeals.
With one final look at my glorious self, I take a deep breath and leave the room.
Caesar is already waiting for me in the luxurious sitting room when I arrive.
“Hello, Mr. Manchester.” I greet with a calmness I do not feel
Upon hearing my voice, he turns, and the little gasp that slips past his lips as he stares at me has my cheeks reddening with
awareness
I cannot take my eyes off of him either. His custom made black tuxedo and crisp white shirt look like they were made specifically for him by a host of angels
He starts towards
and my breath hitches in my throat. Then he leans forward, takes my hand and gently kisses the back
of my fingers and I end up blushing furiously.
“You look beautiful, Amaya.” He says softly

After exchanging pleasantries and asking about the babies, he helps me into the car and before long, we zoom off
It’s time to turn heads at my husband’s engagement ceremony.
“I purposefully made sure we arrived late! Caesar explains as the driver comes to a stop before the Blackwell Mansion….my former home,
“I want all eyes to be on us when we walk inside.”
This used to be my home. I can’t believe I’m returning here today to attend the engagement party of my cheating husband.
I lift my chin and straighten my shoulders like a queen when we walk through the entrance doors, my fingers tightly wrapped around Caesar’s arm.
There seems to be some sort of romantic dance going on but the music is paused as the butler announces our arrival. “Introducing. New York City’s number once CEO and his beautiful date, Mr. Ceaser Manchester and Mrs. Amaya Blackwell”
The entire hall comes to a standstill as Caesar and I walk through the throng of guests. Whispers of shock, hatred and jealousy follow my every step, reminding me that none of these people ever liked me. They only respected me because I was married to their future Supreme Alpha.
look at her!” They whisper, “how was she able to get the attention of a wealthy man like Caesar…?”
from one rich man’s arm to another, she’s really a professional gold digger…”
“Maintain
your composure.
Caesar whispers to me. “Here comes your husband and his new bride–to–be.”
I take a deep breath and look up. Sure enough, Alistair and Zarare approaching us, hand–in–hand.
My throat tightens with jealousy and anger when I spot the no–doubt expensive engagement ring on her finger.
I keep my eyes firmly trained on Alistair as they come closer.
A thrill of satisfaction shoots up my spine at his awestruck expression. He looks shocked. and completely enamoured by my beauty. Just how I wanted it.
“Hello, Mr. Blackwell. Congratulations on your engagement. Caesar greets, his tone completely emotionless.
I say nothing.
Alistair has not taken his eyes off of me since he arrived.
“Amaya, what the hell is going on here? Why are you with him?” He asks, completely ignoring Caesar’s greeting.
I shrug and bat my lashes at him..
“I don’t think that’s any of your business, Alistair. Like you said a week ago, we were a mistake. Whoever I choose to go out with shouldn’t concern you, am I right?”
His eyes narrow with annoyance.
“You’re still my wife which makes it my business.”
Those words pierce my heart like a stake. Instead of reacting. I press myself closer against Caesar’s side,
“As you can clearly see. I’m with someone else now. I wasn’t ready to sign
n your divorce papers before, but this wonderful

changed my perspective immediately.
Now, I’m ready. Where are the divorce papers?”
Another emotion sparks in his eyes, an emotion I recognize as jealousy.
“Was it really that easy for you!
move on?” He asks suddenly, his eyes burning with anger.
“Was it really that easy for you to find a new man? This means as right all along. All witches are really just whores
His words are intended to hurt, and I’m ashamed to admit that they do hurt a little bit.
Before I can say a single word, Caesar steps forward protectively
“I’ve been quiet because I didn’t want to get involved in whatever issues you both have going on, but you will not disrespect my woman. Understood?”
“Your woman, huh?” Alistair asks bitterly.
Just then, his mother arres, and she comes prepared. In her hands are the divorce papers and a pen
Her eyes are filled with hate as she thrusts the papers at me.
“Thank the goddess that you’re here. Sign those papers and be gone from our lives forever. We no longer have any use for
you.”
-I do not even hesitate as I grab the papers from her and find the nearest table. After reading through them. I scribble my
signature across the space provided, shocked that there’s no iota of sadness in my heart. There’s only anger.
When I’m done, I turn to Alistair
“Why were you on my neck to sign the papers when you hadn’t even signed yourself, Mr. Blackwell? It’s your turn now. Sign them”
Zara blinks in surprise as she turns to her husband–to–be
“You didn’t sign the papers? Why?
Alistair does not address any of our questions. He grabs the papers from my hands and scribbles his signatures on them, then he turns to me, still seething:
“There, I’ve signed it. Nothing binds us together anymore. Get out of my life”
I’m sure he expects me to break down and cry. Instead, I ignore the hollow feeling inside me and turn to his wife;
her
“Congratulations, Zara. I heard your illicit affair planted a seed.“nod at her barely swollen belly.
She gives r
me a very fake smile
“Thank you. I’m actually pregnant with his legitimate heir.”
I nod and grab Ceaser’s hand once more.
“Well then, I guess it’s time for us to leave.”
Wait!”
We’ve barely taken a single step when Alistair’s voice stops us.

“And the babies? How are they?”
The mention of my children almost brings tears to my eyes. I swallow my pain and lift my chin.
“You mean our children? Well, I’m pleased to announce that you plan to break the beyond repair almost worked.
I gave birth to triplets, Alistair. One of them did not make it. I pause to swallow the painful lump in my throat. It still hurts
“I suffered complications because my own husband threw me out in the rain when I was nine months pregnant and ended up losing my first son.
I hope you’re happy now. I hope you’re both very happy.”
All traces of anger disappears from Alistair’s eyes, replaced with shock and guilt.
“Amaya, I didn’t know…”
He takes a step towards me but Caesar steps in front of me, effectively blocking his path.
“I’d advise you not to touch my woman, Mr. Blackwell. You’ve caused her enough pain already. Just stay away from her.”
Alistair looks at me over Ceaser’s shoulder, his eyes filled with remorse.
“Amaya, please listen to me…”
Before he can complete his sentence, the sound of a ringtone pierces the air and I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s Caesar’s phone.
My relief however morphs into curiosity when his expression turns to stone the moment he reads the name on the caller ID. He answers the call immediately, putting it on speakerphone as he walks away:
“Hello, who’s this?”
“Mr. Manchester!” A frantic voice responds. “You need to come to the hospital immediately. Your daught transfusion complications and I’m afraid she’ll not make it. Please, hurry!”
