it’s Miss Elle. Your ex–wife.
Everything seems to happen in slow motion after Henry makes that statement..
My eyes are firmly focused on Caesar, curious about what his reaction will be… and I must say, I become even more curious after that.
His eyes darken to the point of blackness and his shoulders become rigid. I can literally feel the anger and contempt rolling
off of him in waves.
“How did she get to the door?” He growls. “How did she get past security?”
Henry shrugs. I’ve never seen him scared, but right now, he’s cowering in fear of Caesar’s wrath.
“I have no idea, sir. I’ll send her off right away.”
He turns to leave but Caesar stops him.
“Wait, don’t send her away just yet. I want to know why she’s here
I don’t know why, but my heart drops when he makes that statement.
I don’t want Caesar to meet the woman who elicits such haunting pain in his eyes…but deep down, I also recognize the feeling of jealousy that simmers deep in my veins.
I don’t want Caesar to meet his ex–wife. Period.
According to Caesar, she wasn’t convicted after she threw Michaela off the building because the court pronounced her mentally unstable.
What the hell was she doing here?
Once again, it feels as if I don’t exist as I watch Caesar leave the room with Henry. When he’s gone for two minutes. I can no longer stand the anxiety in my chest. I turn to the designer.
“Get me out of this dress.”
“Wait, Amaya, where are you going?”
Once I’m out of the humongous wedding dress and back in my camisole, I send Jayla a glance.
“I want to see who my competition is…”
I should’ve just stayed back at yhe dressing room. They say curiosity killed the cat and right now, I’m pretty sure I feel like death.
I had padded out of the dressing room a minute ago and followed the sound of raised voices to the sitting room.
When I set eyes on Elle, Caesar’s ex–wife, the jealousy in my chest burned even harder.
“Holy shit, she’s gorgeous.” Jayla mutters beside me.
I don’t blame her because Elle IS gorgeous indeed.

Chapter 8
Long, wavy, blonde hair bright blue eyes, patrician features and trim figure with the smallest waist I’ve ever seen, I’m pretty sure she’s every man’s dream woman.
Everything about her screams “class“, even down to the manner the carries her Chanel purse.
“Wait. She looks familiar. Where have we seen her before?” Jayla suddenly whispers.
I narrow my eyes on Elle and blink in surprise, startled that Jayla’s right.
“She does look familiar.”
Then it hits me.
“Wait. Isn’t she the famous model from the All American Fashion show?”
Jayla’s eyes widens like saucers and a squeak of glee slips past her lips
“You’re right!” She whisper–yells. “That’s Elle Vincenzo. Italy’s first ranking supermodel.”
I fold my arms and stareharder, paying closer attention to how she softens her baby doll eyes while speaking to Caesar, and how she subtly tries to touch him
My throat tightens as I finally admit to myself that they look so good together.
With his dark, gorgeous looks and her bright beauty, they give off the aura of a wealthy power couple without even trying Wedding decorations, tesoro mio? Who’s getting married?” She asks with a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
Even her Italian accent is sexy as hell
I tense up as I await Caesar’s
response.
et out?” get “Don’t call me that!” He snaps. “How did you get out of rehab? When did you
Elle takes a step closer and tries to touch his hand, and he lets her.
My chest literally burns as I watch the bitch run her slender fingers over his arm.
“Aren’t you happy that I’m back, tesoro mio? Didn’t you miss me at all?”
“And how about you? Did you miss our daughter?” He asks bittery. “Did you ever wonder how she was doing after you threw her off a fucking balcony?”
Her entire expression falls and her eyes brightened with the tell tale signs of tears.
“Aren’t you ever going to forgive me for that incident? I was not in my right senses. Of course I missed our daughter.
“You missed her and you didn’t call to check up on her even once?” Caesar asks, his voice deep with anger.
“You missed her and whenever you got the opportunity to make a phone call in rehab, you only called your shallow friends to ask about the trending gossip?
You missed her and you came straight here from the airport instead of going to the hospital to check on her?
No, I don’t think you missed our daughter, Elle. And I want you to leave right now.
Leave and never retum.”
For the next three seconds, only tense, thick silence reigns in the room.

Chapter 8
Then Elle wraps her arms around Caesar’s waist, places her head on his shoulder and holds on tight.
“I know I’ve been a horrible mom to our daughter, but I’m back aren’t I? I’m back to try again. I want you to give me another chance, tesoro mio. I promise I won’t disappoint you ever again”
Caesar’s fingers curl into fists at his sides.
“I gave you so many opportunities to be a good mother, but your stupid parties, high class friends and image were more important than our baby girl. Your time is up, Elle. Let go of me
Elle manages to shake her head in a manner that doesn’t ruin her wavy hair.
“No, I’m not going anywhere until you forgive me. Please, Caesar
“I don’t want to hurt you.” Caesar says in a warning tone.
“We’re meant to be together. I’m not going anywhere!”
It takes a lot of self control to keep myself from stomping across the room and dragging the bitch out of the house by her hair. Not just because I really, really dislike her right now… but because I can see the devastation in Caesar’s eyes no matter how hard he tries to hide it.
Even if he tries to act strong, I know he’s not mentally and emotionally ready to face the woman who cut short the life of his only daughter.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” He growls, seconds before he grabs her by the arm and shoves her away from him.
“Ow! Caesar, you hurt me!” Elle screams in her fake, sing–song voice.
“Sir, please calm down.” Henry pleads, running forward to check on her.
“Are you okay, miss?”
“Whose side are you on exactly, Henry?” Caesar mutters angrily
Henry nearly rolls his eyes.
“Of course I’m on your side, sir.”
Meanwhile, Elle is busy acting like Caesar had shoved her off in front of a moving truck. The woman deserves an Oscar.
“Look, Henry, I’m hurt! Look!”
“Sorry, Miss.” He steadies her and suddenly, she breaks into a smile.
I’m convinced that the woman is loco.
“You’re getting married, aren’t you, Henry?” She asks, suddenly cheerful. “Congratulations!”
She turns to Caesar.
1 came back right on time, tesoro
ro mio. We have a wedding to plan!”
The room becomes awfully silent again after that.
When none of the men reply to her or mirror her excitement, the smile on her face slowly drops
Henry clears his throat.
Chapter 8
“Um. Miss Elle, I’m not getting married”
Elle blinks and looks around. “Oh? Who are all the wedding stuff for, then! Who’s getting married?“
I wait with bated breath for Caesar to say something, but he rerains as silent as a tomb. My blood is boiling at this print
Since Caesar says nothing to the contrary, Henry speaks up agath
“The boss is getting married. All the “wedding stuff” are for his bride–to–be”
Elle literally looks like the air has been knocked right out of her er eyes darken with a mixture of shock and annoyance and she takes a step towards Caesar.
“Is it true?” She whispers. “Are you really getting married to someone else? Tell me!” She screams when he doesn’t reply.
Caesar merely shrugs. At this point, my birthday wish to the goddess this year would be to bless me with this man’s infuriating composure.
“Last 1 checked, I didn’t owe you a damn thing, Elle. I’m still asking you to leave.”
She covers the distance between them and gets in his face.
“But you and I are meant to be together! How can you marry someone else after everything we’ve been through together!” Henry hurriedly steps between them, his eyes blazing with fury
“I’m sorry, miss, but you cannot touch the boss like that. This is harassment. Please step
back.”
“Get out of the way, Henry”
“No, you step back. I will no longer allow you to harass the boss. Step back!” He barks and she jumps.
“Caesar, are you really gonna let your servant speak to me in this manner?”
“Henry has more importance in my life than you do, right now, Elle. You will speak to him with respect. Understood?”
Her anger visibly heightens as she clutches the strap of her bag harder.
Suddenly, I hear a crunching sound beside me and turn to see Jayla with a huge bag of popcorn. I shit you not
“Jayla, what are you doing?”
She keeps munching away.
“Sis, this kinda drama is the type for popcorn and a cold can of soda. I haven’t seen drama this intense since Alpha Jacob’s wife cheated on him with their gardener. And I was in elementary school.”
I nearly burst into laughter right there, but Elle’s next words wipe every trace of mirth clean off my face.
“Who is she, Caesar? This girl whom you think is better than me. Who is she?”
“She’s none of your business.”
“Actually, I am.”
”
The moment I blurt those words, I can swear that I hear my wol howl in “what–has–idiot–gotten–us–into?”
The room is silent and all eyes are fixed on me as I make my way out of my hiding place behind the stairs and come to a stop at Caesar’s side.

Acting on a sudden spurt of boldness, I wrap my fingers around
Then I lift my chin and stare her down.
