Chapter 21
Despite the researcher’s heartfelt attempts to dissuade him, Damien’s resolve remained
unshaken.
“Even if the thawing process fails,” Damien said, his voice steady, “I won’t regret my choice.
I’ve already lost her once. I won’t lose her again.”
With a heavy heart, the researcher handed Damien the cryonic consent forms.
He signed them without hesitation.
The preparation process began immediately–medical examinations, cryochamber selection, final legal arrangements.
Damien completed everything in record time.
Before stepping into his chamber, Damien made a final request.
“I want a new cryonic facility built in Starhaven Bay. Transfer Celeste and me there once it’s
ready.”
“Starhaven Bay?” the researcher asked, puzzled.
“Celeste loves the stars,” Damien explained.
“And Starhaven is known for its breathtaking skies and moonlit lakes. The ocean is too
dark, too cold for her.”
“Build the facility there, under the starlight. Let her sleep somewhere beautiful.”
The researcher agreed, moved by Damien’s devotion.
With everything in place, Damien lay down in his chamber.
As the countdown began, he closed his eyes, his mind filled with thoughts of Celeste.
“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered to her, though she couldn’t hear him.
