Chapter 5
The sun slowly went down, rising again the next morning.
Whitney was awoken by the sound of a phone ringing.
Her first reaction was to look at the space next to her, only to find that Julius was no longer there. But the blanket was still a little warm, so he must have just gotten up.
She tried to reach for her ringing phone, but the ache in the lower half of her body prevented her from doing so. After a short while, the phone stopped ringing.
But just when she thought the phone wouldn’t ring anymore, it started ringing again.
She tried to get up again and let out an involuntary gasp of pain But this time, she managed to grab hold of her phone. When she saw who was calling, she couldn’t help but chuckle.
Julius emerged from the bathroom just in time to catch that seemingly mischievous chuckle of hers. His body was still a little wet and the bathrobe around him covered the new hickeys on the back of his neck.
He stopped toweling his hair and his expression faltered.
Who was calling her? Why did that make her smile? Was she still plotting a way to leave him after all?
Whitney looked at the words ‘Irvin Steed‘ on her phone screen and pressed the hang up button nonchalantly.
Then she looked up to see Julius prestfallen expression and her heart sank. She was about to say something when Julius put his towel on the back of a chair and walked over to her.
“You’re awake.” He looked straight at her, but he also really wanted to look at her lighted phone screen too,
Tm hungry,” she said as she leaned forward to hug him by the waist.
All the tension in his body instantly melted away when he looked down at the adorable woman in his arms and heard her gentle voice.
“Get up and we’ll go downstairs to get something to eat, okay? He caressed her soft hair before heading downstairs first. After he had left the room, Whitney’s phone started ringing again.
She was in no hurry to pick up the call. She slowly sat down in front of the dresser before pressing the answer button and putting it on speakerphone.
“Whitney, why didn’t you pick up your phone just now? A clearly displeased female voice chided Whitney.
Her voice made Whitney immediately think of those repulsive things that this woman had last said to her in that hidden basement room.
“What’s up?” asked Whitney as she started applying hoisturizer on her face
“Have you forgotten? You were supposed to pass give a script to Irvie.” Rainie seemed to have sensed that Whitney wasn’t in a good mood.
Whitney just smiled quietly to herself and said, “Of course not. How could I have forgotten?”
Rainie seemed relieved and didn’t sound as antagonistic. “That’s great. Irvie and I need that script today, so you’ve got to pass it to us today.”

Chapter 5
Whitney took her time to apply lipstick before finally answering her, “Okay”
But even if Rainie noticed anything amiss about Whitney, she couldn’t care less now. Til meet you at one usual spot then By the way, Irvie’s coming along too.”
Why did Rainie want Whitney to pass the file to her in person instead of just getting Whitney to send her an email? It was because Irvin was afraid that someone might trace everything back to Rainie and realize that the two of them were actually trying to make use of Whitney
In her previous life. Whitney had been too foolish to realize this By the time she discovered that her script had credited Rainie as the scriptwriter, it was too late.
After hanging up. Whitney quickly combed her hair and got ready to go downstairs. Little did she know that Julius had heard her entire conversation from beginning to the end.
It felt like a storm was brewing in the living room on the first story where Julius was seated.
A phone was placed in front of him and the recording of Whitney’s call had just finished playing
“I just knew there was something up with this woman! She’s really…” Eugene was about to say more but shut his mouth in fear when he caught Julius‘ warning glare.
I promised to take her word for it.” Julius kept the phone in front of him away expressionlessly.
Footsteps came from upstairs. Whitney was making her way down.
“Why didn’t you go and eat first?” Whitney pulled her arms around Julius‘ waist and clung to him.
It was as if Julius had absorbed the tense atmosphere earlier and it was almost impossible to tell what he was thinking about
“I was waiting for you. Regardless of how much inner turmoil he was feeling, he simply couldn’t muster the courage or bring himself to ask her what she was really up to.
He didn’t want to ruin this heartwarming ambiance. He didn’t want to see Whitney smash all the furniture in the house hysterically and stare at him with nothing but hate and disgust again.
Things were perfect now. Or at least, Whitney’s heart belonged to him for the moment.
“Let’s go eat and you can go to work after that,” said Whitney as she tugged at him to head for the dining area. She had no
all. idea what he was thinking about at
“What about you?” Julius let her tug at him, but he didn’t budge at all.
She turned back to look puzzledly at him, wondering why he wasn’t budging while answering him, “Me? I’ll be at home waiting for you. What else would I be doing?”
Both Julius and Eugene’s expressions faltered. Didn’t she promise Rainie to meet her and Irvin just now?
But Julius quickly looked normal again and it was as if nothing had happened. He responded in his low and mesmerizing voice, “Okay.”
“Let’s go eat then.” She tugged at him again and he walked towards the dining table with her this time.
“Oh! What about you, Mr. Jagger? Have you eaten?” Whitney turned to look at Eugene, who looked ready to tear her to pieces
But before she could look at Eugene properly, Julius covered her eyes and said. “You don’t have to care about him.”
Chapter 5
He didn’t want his wife to be looking at some other man!
After eating. Julius was just about to step out of the house when suddenly turned around to ask Whitney, “You sure you re not going out today?”
Whitney, he pleaded in his heart, you can go out if you like, but please, please don’t lie to me.
But Whitney nodded very seriously at him.
He wasn’t sure what to think at this point, so he walked out only to walk back in to kiss her hard on the head. “Okay”
Then he got into the car and began dealing with all the documents he had put aside the day before. Eugene sat in the front passenger seat and looked at Julius in the rear mirror. After hesitating for a long while, he finally decided to ask, “Mr. Latreille, are you sure you don’t need me to send two men to watch Miss…I mean, Mrs. Latreille?”
Julius was clearly unhappy to hear this questiorrand the atmosphere in the car instantly grew tense.
Eugene swallowed his saliva nervously as he waited for Julius’s reply.
But even though Julius didn’t like what Eugene was implying, he knew he had to do it anyway.
“Send Number 7 and Number 9 over to protect Whitney, he eventually caved in. It was true that he said he would take Whitney’s word for it, but he didn’t want to risk it. He was never going to let Whitney leave his side.
He simply couldn’t imagine life without her.
So even though he told Eugene to send these two men over to protect her, they were really there to keep an eye on her.
Contrary to how they imagined Whitney was plotting her escape, she had actually gone back to sleep on the big bed in the bedroom again.
After all, she had engaged in some really vigorous activity the day before and she had just started her new life, which really tired her out emotionally. On top of all that, the first thing that greeted her in the morning was a call from that accursed woman. She really needed a lot of sleep to recover from everything.
