Lorik noticed the sudden stiffness in my posture, his voice soft but filled with concern. “What’s wrong?”
Forcing a smile, I shook my head, “Nothing.” My attempt at casualness felt thin, but I needed to hide the surprise swirling inside me.
He studied my face for a second longer before nodding, though the slight crease in his brow showed he wasn’t convinced. Without pressing further, he excused himself and headed toward the cluster of Alphas gathered across the room, leaving me to wrestle with my thoughts.
Once alone, I sank onto the plush couch tucked into a quiet corner, letting the lively conversations of the party become a distant hum. Around me, the air buzzed with excitement about the mysterious musician’s latest piece, a “monologue” that seemed to have captivated everyone’s attention. But it was difficult to focus. My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing with notifications, pulling me back into the real world. I unlocked it and stared at the flood of hearts and messages filling my screen.
Ten million views. My songwriting video had skyrocketed in popularity. Messages poured in, each more enthusiastic than the last, but one stood out–the music agent who had once wanted my tune. Only now, the offer was different. His words replayed in my head as I read the message:
**“Ms. Lorcia’s wedding. She’s willing to pay handsomely for you to perform live. This isn’t about acquiring your music anymore–it’s about showcasing the brilliance of your performance. Please consider this invitation.“**
I leaned back, a slow smirk forming on my lips. **Lorcia.** She would never imagine that the mysterious musician she so eagerly wanted for her wedding was none other than me.
As I savored the thought, a sudden, sharp feeling of malice prickled at the back of my neck. My instincts flared, urging me to look up, and there they were–Lorcia and my sister Alice. Lorcia’s eyes were dark, burning with jealousy. Her face was twisted into something uglier than usual, and I could practically feel her contempt from across the room. Next to her, Alice shifted uncomfortably, avoiding my gaze.
Alice–once desperate to marry Lorik before his injury. The second she learned about his disability, she’d pushed me into the match, washing her hands of him. But now, with his recovery and rise back to power, her interest–and jealousy–had resurfaced.
Lorcia sauntered over, her lips curving into a fake smile. “I didn’t expect to see you here,” she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. Her eyes swept over my outfit with a critical glare. “I thought the Ghostpack had… less refined taste.”

Alice flushed, shrinking back, but I met Lorcia’s gaze head–on, tilting my head curiously. “How did you two get in? This is an Alpha and Luna’s event, after all.”
Lorcia’s grin widened, smugness lacing her tone. “I am the Alpha’s daughter, remember? Soon to be Luna of Silvermoon.” The way she said it, like a declaration, made my skin crawl
I couldn’t help the cold laugh that escaped. “The Alpha’s daughter? And yet, you couldn’t even secure a proper invitation. I’m still Luna of Silvermoon, Lorcia.”
Her face flushed an angry red, her jaw clenching as she hissed through gritted teeth. “You won’t be for long. I’ve already arranged for the most exclusive musician to perform at my wedding. ‘Monologue‘ himself is going to be there.”
wave of gasps rippled through the crowd, whispers of admiration and excitement quickly filling the air. Lorcia basked in the attention, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction as she soaked in the admiration of the onlookers.
I stood at the edge of the crowd, arms crossed, a mocking smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. She had no idea.
“Do you really think ‘Monologue‘ would perform at a wedding like yours?” I called out, my voice slicing through the murmurs. Heads turned in my direction, the sudden tension thickening the air.
Lorcia straightened, her voice rising with arrogance. “Of course. I can afford the finest musicians.”
I let out a low chuckle. “I know ‘Monologue‘ personally. She told me she would never perform at the wedding of a home–wrecker.”
The room fell into a stunned silence. The air seemed to crackle with the unspoken weight of my words. Lorcia’s eyes flashed dangerously, and for a moment, she seemed at a loss for words.
Her voice, when it came, was brittle with anger. “How could someone like you possibly know ‘Monologue‘?” she spat, her words dripping with venom.
I met her glare calmly, my voice measured. “You can always call and find out.”
Panic flickered in her eyes as she fumbled for her phone, her hands trembling as she dialed her music agent’s number. Desperation laced her every move, as though reality was slipping through her grasp.
“How dare you question me? Just wait, I’ll make you lose face in front of everyone!” she hissed, her voice trembling with fury.
