Chapter 18

Lorik’s POV

Her distress tugged at something inside me. Despite my anger, a pang of guilt hit me. I quickly dressed and instructed Beta to keep a close eye on the rogue. I need to visit Lorcia,I said, my voice firm

When I arrived at the hospital, Lorcia was in a state of hysteria. Her wails were heartwrenching as she cried out about her ruined hand and her fears of never playing the piano again

orcia,I said, trying to calm her. Please, try to stay calm. We’ll figure this out.”

But her cries only grew louder. Her anguish was nearly unbearable, and I pulled out a bank card, offering it to her as a peace offering. The sight of the card seemed to soothe her a bit, but the sense of urgency remained

I could see Lorcia crying but my heart only yearned for Shirley. I couldn’t stop thinking about her and her pain. I knew she was all by herself and my heart was desperately forcing me towards her. In my mind and my hear, I could only imagine Shirley’s pain and her not being able to play the piano. Though Lorcia’s crying tried her best to distract me but my worry for Shirley only grew

stronger..

I have to go,I said, my voice cutting through her sobs. Shirley was hurt too. I need to see her.”

Lorcia’s eyes flashed with anger as she grabbed my arm. I am in pain, I need you”

You can call your parents to take care of you if you need to,”

They’ve gone to find the person responsible,She said, while grasping me harder..

I somehow succeeded in getting a bit away from her What? I have already caught punished the murderer, so whom are her parents punishing? I thought to myself

Lorcia’s smirk was smug. They’ll make sure that awful woman, Shirley, pays for everything. She’s

just jealous of me

Her words were a jolt to my system. I pushed her away, her shocked expression lingering as I left the hospital. My mind raced as I made my way back to Shirley’s hospital

When I arrived, the scene was chaotic. The ward was in disarray. The room looked disgusting as if

something horrible had just happened here. Rose petals were spilled all over, china tiles were dirty

with water and dark stains. I saw nurses and approached one of them

What happened here?I asked urgently

There was a disturbance, the nurse explained. A couple claimed to be your relatives and caused a scene. There was an altercation, and the patient threw a vase at them. A man Intervened and arranged for a transfer.”

My heart sank. The couple must have been Lorcia’s parents, and the man who intervened had to be Maurice. I pulled out my phone and dialed Shirley’s number. Maurice answered, his voice cold and unyielding

Let me speak to Shirley.I demanded

She’s resting.Maurice said, his tone dismissive. She had a confrontation with some visitors. She’s not up for phone calls right now.”

Where is she?I pressed

Maurice hesitated. She’s being moved to a private hospital I own. I won’t give you the address. If you can’t manage the people around her, then perhaps you don’t deserve to see her.”

When he finished, he seemed to hang up the phone

I hurriedly asked, Is Shirley okay? I heard she had a runin with someone.”

The Shirley I remember was always very gentle and rarely resisted when she was harshly chastised by others. Facing the fierce Flameheart Alpha couple, she might have been hurt, which made me

very worried

To my surprise, Maurice’s voice had a smile in it, Don’t worry, she wasn’t bullied. Just the opposite, she was brave enough to defend herself

The call ended abruptly, leaving me feeling frustrated and helpless. For the next week, my life consumed by the search for Shirley. My attempts to reach her were futilemy calls went unanswered, and my mind link was rejected repeatedly. I even went to the piano shop, but I was told Shirley and Maurice had been out of town for days

The realization that our relationship might end over this was a bitter pill to swallow. The thought that I might see her next at the Council of Wolves was almost unbearable

On a special holiday, I decided to visit my mother, hoping some clarity might come from it. My mother lived in a suburban villa, having severed ties with the werewolf world after my father refected her

path. After my father’s rejection, she had left the werewolf community, heartbroken and isillusioned. Pregnant with me, she had come to the human world alone, seeking refuge and raising me in a world that was both foreign and isolating. She had kept her distance from the pack, choosing. to live a quiet life away from the complexities of our world

Over the years, I visited her occasionally, when my duties allowed. Her home was a serene villa, a stark contrast to the chaotic life I led. Despite the distance between us, she remained a touchstone, a reminder of the life I might have had If things had been different

As I approached the villa, the familiar sight of its neat garden and tranquil setting provided a rare moment of peace. But as I stepped closer, I heard a voice that made me freeze in my tracks. It was unmistakably Shirley’s

My heart skipped a beat as I pushed open the door and stepped inside. The villa’s interior was as calm and inviting as ever, but the sound of Shirley’s voiceclear and distressedcut through the tranquility. I followed the sound, a mixture of hope and anxiety swirling in my chest, as I made my way through the villa towards the source of the voice
