Chapter 49
As expected, my adoptive mother, standing beside him, became even angrier. Her eyes blazed with fury as she stepped forward, raising her hand to slap me.
Once, I was covered in bruises from their violent beatings; now, with my own wolf, I won’t endure “their bullying anymore. I’m stronger and more agile than before, swiftly dodging her attack with
graceful and rapid movements that even surprised me.
She recoiled in shock, her hand hovering in the air where my face had been just a moment before. “You little-” she began, but I cut her off, my voice cold.
“You can accuse me of whatever you want, but it won’t change the truth. Alice and her friends vandalized my car. The repairs cost over $800,000, and you’re responsible for it.”
Their anger turned Into outrage, but before they could respond, the classroom door opened again.
This time, it was Lorik who walked in, his expression as cold and unreadable as ever. The air in the
room seemed to freeze as he approached us, his presence commanding everyone’s attention.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded, his voice low and icy. His eyes flicked from Alice’s parents to
me, and then back again.
My adoptive mother, Shakira, didn’t waste a second, her voice shrill as she pointed at me. “She’s
extorting us! There’s no way she could afford such an expensive car on her own. She’s trying to pin
the blame on Alice and make us pay for something we didn’t do.”
Lorik’s gaze shifted to me, his expression unreadable. I held his gaze, refusing to back down. “The
car is mine,” I stated clearly. “It was a gift from my father, Ethan Winter. The repairs were handled by professionals, and there’s no mistake.”
A murmur of surprise ‘rippled through the room at the mention of Ethan Winter. I could see the
shock in my classmates‘ eyes, the sudden realization of who I really was. The whispers grew louder, spreading like wildfire.
“Ethan Winter’s daughter?”
“No way, she’s a human–wolf hybrid?”
I’ve never seen one before…”
The room buzzed with excitement and curiosity, but all I could focus on was the look on Alice’s face. Her eyes were wide with shock, but there was something else there too–something darker. Anger,

before 1 could react, Alice’s voice cut through the noise, her tone filled with desperation. “Lorik, don’t listen to her! She’s lying. She’s always been a liar. She’s just trying to get you on her side because… because she knows you’re too kind–hearted to see the truth.”
Alice’s voice wavered as she spoke, her usual bravado replaced by something that almost sounded like desperation. Her eyes flicked between me and Lorik, pleading with him to believe her. But Lorik remained unmoved, his cold gaze locked on her.
“Enough,” he said sharply, his voice cutting through the room like a knife. “I don’t have time for your pathetic excuses, Alice. Your actions are your responsibility, and trying to shift the blame won’t change that.”
Alice’s face turned red with humiliation, and I could see the tears welling up in her eyes. For a moment, I almost felt sorry for her. But then I remembered all the times she had tormented me, all the times she had tried to break me down. And any sympathy I might have had disappeared.
“How dare you!” Alice’s voice was shrill, her anger finally boiling over. “How dare you trust her over me? She’s nothing but a bastard, and you’re a fool for believing her lies!”
Her words hung In the air, the weight of her insult crashing down like a hammer. The room fell into a stunned silence, everyone too shocked to react.
As soon as Lorik entered the classroom, I noticed a change in Alice. Her usual haughty demeanor softened, and her face flushed a deep red. Her eyes, once filled with contempt and scorn, now shimmered with adoration as they followed Lorik’s every move. She barely glanced at me; her entire focus was on him. It was as if, in that moment, the rest of the world ceased to exist, and only
Lorik mattered.
Alice’s infatuation with him had never been a secret. She had once dreamed of becoming his Luna,
the revered mate of the Alpha of Silvermoon. She fantasized about the power, prestige, and
influence that would come with the title. But those dreams had crumbled when Lorik was injured, his legs crippled in a tragic accident. Alice, who had always valued strength and appearance ahoge above. all, quickly dismissed him, mocking me for agreeing to marry what she sneeringly called “a broken
man.”
“Is that what you’ve reduced yourself to?” she had taunted me back then. “Marrying an invalid just to
pay off your debts? How pathetic.”

Her lips parted slightly as if she wanted to say something, but ng words came out. She simply stared, lost in the fantasy of what could have been.

Finally, she managed to speak, her voice trembling slightly. “Lorik… I–I didn’t mean for any of this to happen,” she stammered, her usual bravado replaced with a pitiful attempt at humility. “I was just
ying to protect my family. You have to believe me.”
The way she acted so coquettishly looked utterly pitiable, no man could resist it. During our school years, she loved to use this tactic to shift all the blame to me, and my friends chose to believe her, isolating me.
I glanced at Lorik, suddenly feeling a bit anxious. Would I face his betrayal again this time?
