Chapter 78
*I’ll do what I can,* Lena responded, her tone somber. A warmth spread through me as she began to work, her energy flowing into Jane, attempting to heal her physical wounds.
Jane’s shaking gradually subsided, and her breathing evened out as she slipped into unconsciousness in my arms. I let out a shaky breath, grateful for the temporary reprieve. “Lena, what’s happening?” I asked, desperate for answers.
*Her body will heal,* Lena said, her voice heavy with the weight of the situation. *But her mind…. that’s something I can’t fix. She’s been through too much, and staying awake would only break her further. I had to let her pass out so she can begin to heal.*
Tears pricked at my eyes, but I blinked them back. I couldn’t afford to fall apart now. I had to be strong for Jane.
Meanwhile, the crowd had grown more restless. Someone shouted, “That’s Alpha Lorik!” The murmur of recognition spread like wildfire, and fear rippled through the onlookers. People began to back away, giving us a wide berth.
Sorcia, however, wasn’t deterred. Despite being overpowered by Lorik, she continued to thrash and scream, her eyes blazing with hatred. “You’re nothing but a mistress!” she spat at me, her words venomous. “Lorik should be with my sister, not you!”
Her gaze was so full of malice that it mirrored her sister’s–cold, calculating, and full of a deep–seated desire to hurt. She strained against Lorik’s hold, clearly wanting nothing more than to lash out at me:–
Lorik’s patience snapped. “Enough,” he said, his voice icy. “I’m done with you and your sister. You’ll
answer to the school and the courts.”
With those final words, he hauled Sorcia away, her protests growing weaker as the reality of her situation set in. The crowd, now fully dispersed, left us in a heavy silence, the aftermath of the chaos lingering in the air.
We wasted no time in getting Jane to the hospital. The ride there felt interminable, every minute stretching into an eternity as I watched Jane’s pale face, her breathing shallow but steady. I could still feel the warmth of Lena’s healing energy, but it wasn’t enough to ease the ache in my chest.
When we finally arrived, the doctors took Jane into the examination room, leaving us in the cold, sterile hallway. I paced back and forth, my mind replaying the events over and over, each time more painful than the last.

After what felt like hours, the doctor emerged from the room. I rushed over to him, my heart in my Throat. “How is she? Is she going to be okay?”
The doctor’s expression was a mix of surprise and concern. “Physically, she seems to be stable. The injuries were severe, but it looks like she received some sort of treatment before she arrived here. It’s unusual, but I believe she’s out of immediate danger. However, the psychological trauma is another matter entirely. That will take much longer to heal.”
Lorik, who had been silent beside me, glanced at me, his eyes searching mine as if trying to understand something. I couldn’t meet his gaze, the guilt weighing too heavily on my shoulders. This was my fault. If I hadn’t been involved, Jane wouldn’t have suffered like this.
A single tear slipped down my cheek, followed by another, and then another. I couldn’t hold them Tack any longer. The worry, the guilt–it all came crashing down on me at once.
Lorik sighed, and before I knew it, he had pulled me into a hug. It wasn’t his usual embrace, full of passion and heat. This one was different, gentle and comforting, a silent offering of support when words failed him. He wasn’t good with emotional confrontations, but in that moment, his arms around me were exactly what I needed.
I buried my face in his chest, letting the tears fall freely. For a few moments, I allowed myself to be vulnerable, to release the pain that had been building up inside me.
When the tears finally subsided, I pulled back, wiping my face and taking a deep breath. I had to be strong now, for Jane’s sake.
“Can I see her?” I asked the doctor, my voice steadier than I felt.
The doctor nodded. “You can, but be gentle. She’s been through a lot.”
I nodded, my heart heavy with a mixture of determination and dread. I had to be there for her, to help her through this, no matter how hard it would be.
Taking another deep breath, I pushed open the door to Jane’s room, steeling myself for what lay
ahead.
