My heart sank. Without another word, I grabbed my things and rushed out, my mind racing with fear. Lorik’s leg had been healing so well–how could this have happened? The drive back to the pack’s territory felt endless, each minute stretching into eternity as I pushed the car to its limits.
When I finally arrived at the private hospital, the atmosphere was tense. Familiar faces from the pack were gathered outside the ward, their expressions a mix of worry and barely–contained anger. As I approached, the weight of their stares bore down on me, making me feel like an intruder.
Before I could process the situation, Lorcia, stormed over to me. Her eyes were blazing with fury,
nd before I could react, she shoved me, hard. I stumbled back, the shock of her actions leaving me
momentarily speechless.
“How dare you come over here?” she spat, her voice trembling with rage. “Lorik had a leg attack trying to pick up the diamond ring you threw into the river! How can you have the nerve to come visit him after what you put him through?”
I froze, her words hitting me like a physical blow. The reality of what she was saying took a moment
to sink in. Lorik’s leg ailment… it had struck again because of me?
Lorik is known for his incredible strength and resilience as a werewolf, and he had been making good progress in recovering from a previous leg injury. Given his power and the extent of his recovery, it seems almost impossible that such a minor event as a brief swim in the water could cause his leg ailment to flare up again, making the situation both surprising and concerning.
The tension in the air was palpable as Lorcia’s glare lingered on me, her fury barely contained. Her
movements were swift and aggressive as she tried to rush at me, hands raised in an attempt to
strike. But before she could reach me, a hand shot out and yanked her arm, stopping her cold. It was
Narik. His face was grim, his expression a mix of anger and warning.
“Get the hell out of the hospital if you’re going to go crazy and start bullshitting again,” Narik
growled, his voice low but laced with menace.
Lorcia’s eyes flickered with a brief flash of fear, and though she glared at me, she knew better than
to challenge Narik. Without another word, she stepped back, returning to her original position, fuming but subdued.
Iturned to Narik, my voice soft but strained. “What’s going on?” I asked.
Narik grimaced, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t blame yourself for this,” he said, his voice gruff yet gentle. “Lorik’s injury had nothing to do with you.”

Confusion washed over me. “But… Lorcia said it happened because-”
It’s not about the ring,” Narik interrupted, his tone firm. “It was Andrew. He heard about Lorik diving into the water for that diamond, and it set him off. They had a fight–a big one. After that, Andrew purposely made things difficult for him, sending him on a dangerous mission to negotiate with a rival tribe. It was an impossible task. On the way back, Lorik was ambushed. He killed those attackers, but he was seriously injured.”
Narik’s explanation hit me hard, and the weight of what he was saying sank in. Around us, the faces of those present were tight with anger, their expressions darkened by Andrew’s actions. Daria, in particular, looked like she was on the verge of tears.
Lorcia’s voice cut through the silence, sharp and accusatory. “Isn’t this all because of her? If she
dn’t thrown that ring, Andrew wouldn’t have done this to Lorik!”
Narik’s patience snapped. “I told you to get the hell out of the hospital if you were going to start this madness again,” he snarled, signaling to the bodyguards standing near the door.
As the bodyguards moved forward to escort her out, Lorcia struggled, her voice rising in a desperate cry. “Who are you to do this? You traitor! With Lorik injured, you could’ve taken over Silvermoon! Maybe you planned this attack-”
Slap!
The sound of my hand connecting with her cheek echoed through the hallway, sharp and sudden.
Lorcia stood frozen, her eyes wide in shock as she stared at me, a red mark blooming on her skin.
“You… you bitch! How dare you-”
Slap! Another quick strike cut off her words, leaving her stunned.
“I’m not the bitch. You are.” My voice was calm, cold. “I am Luna of Silvermoon.” I glanced at the
people around me, who watched in stunned silence. “Take her away,” I ordered, “and post extra guards at the hospital entrance. She’s not to come back here.”
“Yes, Luna,” the werewolves around us responded, nodding as they grabbed Lorcia and dragged her away. Her screams and curses echoed down the corridor, but I no longer paid them any attention.
Turning back to Narik, I asked quietly, “How is Lorik? What’s his condition?”
Narik’s expression softened slightly, but the sadness in his eyes was unmistakable. “It’s bad,” he said quietly. “The doctor told me that Lorik’s old leg injury was supposed to keep him off his feet for the rest of his life, but somehow, miraculously, he healed. This time, the injury isn’t as severe, but the new damage combined with the old… there’s a chance he might never walk again.”
