Chapter 113

The roar of engines filled the air, a cacophony of power and raw adrenaline. My fingers tightened on the steering wheel as I glanced at the dashboard. Everything was in place. The world outside the cockpit was a blur of color and movement, but inside, it was just me and the machine

Lorik’s words echoed in my mind. *My Luna is a fan of your team.

I replayed that moment over and over again, the way he had looked at me, the flicker of recognition that made my heart race. I tried to push it aside, focusing instead on the task ahead. I was here to race, not to dissect every nuance of our interaction

Just before the race, Lorik had walked up to me, seemingly intrigued. He hadn’t seen through the disguise, at least not yet. But the way his eyes had lingered made me uneasy. Did he recognize me

beneath the racing suit, or was he just fascinated by the idea of a female racer

It’s a Sparco Racing Team racing suit,Lorik had said, his voice casual but filled with curiosity. By

the sound of it, you’re a female racer?”

I had suppressed the tension that rose in my chest and answered as calmly as I could, Yes.The

response felt heavy, as though I were walking a tightrope, unsure of which way I would fall

He raised an eyebrow, his expression softening into something akin to admiration. My Luna is

fan of your team. Good luck with getting a good result today, she’ll be very happy to see it.”

I had frozen in place. His Luna? The possessiveness in his tone wasn’t new, but it still sent a shiver through me. Did he suspect the truth? Or was he simply showing support for his partner’s favorite

team

In that moment, I wasn’t sure which answer unsettled me more

I had quickly nodded and walked away, my legs moving on autopilot. My mind, however, was racing as fast as my car would be soon. *Focus, Cheryl,* I reminded myself, using the alias I had adopted. This wasn’t the time to get distracted

After a quick check with the crew to confirm that the car was in perfect condition, I slid into the driver’s seat. The leather of the Sparco suit clung to my skin, and the helmet visor showed me a distorted view of the roaring stands. It was packed today, with thousands of people anticipating the Start of the race. Many of them had come to see Cheryl, the racer who had returned after years of

absence

But not everyone in the crowd was supportive

As I stepped out of the car for the introductory presentation, I heard the whispers starting immediately

Is that Cheryl? She looks smaller than I remember.”

She never takes off the helmet. How do we even know it’s her?”

I heard Sparco Racing is hanging by a thread. This might be their last chance to save face.”

I clenched my jaw. The doubts and rumors felt like needles against my skin, but I couldn’t let them get to me. I took a deep breath, steadying myself. Just then, I saw a familiar face in the

crowdGregor, waving a Sparco flag wildly, shouting words of encouragement. Next to him stood a tall figure that sent a jolt of unease through me

Lorik

His eyes were fixed on me, a slight frown creasing his forehead. He looked puzzled, as if trying to piece together a puzzle that was almost complete but still missing a crucial piece. I had told him once that Cheryl was nothing more than an alias for a groupie I admired. But now, standing in front of him, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was starting to suspect the truth

I turned away quickly, signaling to the spectators that I was ready. Climbing back into the car, I forced all thoughts of Lorik and his piercing gaze out of my mind. I had a race to win

The silence before the race was a stark contrast to the chaos in my head. My fingers hovered over the paddles, my foot lightly pressing the accelerator. The lights on the track flickered, one by one, signaling the start. The tension in the air was palpable. Every driver, every team member, every spectator held their breath in those few moments

Then, in an instant, the lights went out, and the race began

The engine roared to life beneath me as I slammed down on the accelerator, shifting into first gear My car shot forward, but I could feel itthe start hadn’t been perfect. I was stuck in the middle of the

pack, boxed in by other drivers who were just as hungry for victory

My eyes narrowed

This wasn’t over yet. The first turn was fast approaching and I knew this would be my chance

Corners are where I excel, my braking ability and acceleration can give me a big advantage going into them

It was a fight to see if I could overtake
