Lorik took a deep breath, his eyes softening as he spoke. “I waited for my mate all through college,” he began, his voice low but steady. “I thought maybe I’d never find her, but I hoped. I hoped until my graduation speech. Then, when I saw you picking up your corsage, I just knew.” He smiled, a distant
look in his eyes. “You were the one.”
I blinked, feeling a mix of disbelief and curiosity. “So, you knew back then?”

I couldn’t help but smile a little. Now that I thought about it, he had always treated me differently
back then. He was charming with everyone, but with me, there was something… more.
“And that night at the lakeside flat,” he continued, his voice softening as if lost in the memory. “You
don’t know how happy I was when you showed up at my door. I couldn’t resist picking you up the moment I saw you–just like I want to do now.”
I felt a flood of emotions–nostalgia, confusion, a twinge of pain. “Then why,” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, “were you with Lorcia the next day?”
His smile faded, replaced by a look of surprise. He thought for a moment, his brow furrowing.
“Lorcia?” His expression turned grim. “That… must’ve been her doing. I never… I didn’t-” He sighed
deeply. “It had to be her spreading rumors. She’s always been manipulative.”
I listened, processing his words. “After that, I heard the rumors and didn’t go back to you,” I said the
memories resurfacing. “I dropped out of school, worked to pay off my debts… You thought I didn‘
care anymore.”
He nodded, his expression turning somber. “I waited for you, but when you didn’t come back… I thought maybe you weren’t like me. That you didn’t feel the same way. I was lost for a long time, and
eventually, with Andrew’s pressure and Lorcia’s persistence, I let myself get pulled into a relationship with her.”
There was a rawness in his voice that I hadn’t expected, a hint of regret. He seemed emotional as he added, “If it weren’t for all these misunderstandings, we could have been inseparable… like we were
meant to be.”

plenty of other men who are after me now. You’re not the only one.”
Jealousy flickered in his eyes. “We’re mates, aren’t we? Am I really no different from the others?”
I leaned closer, a smirk tugging at my lips. “Of course, there’s something different.”
or a brief moment, hope lit up his face, and I couldn’t help but chuckle as I added, “But honestly, you probably don’t hold as much of a place in my heart as a few of them do.”

Alice, clutching a broom in her hands, stared at us with a mixture of anger and longing. Her heart twisted at the sight of Lorik, the Alpha she adored, being rejected yet relentlessly pursuing me.
