Chapter 162
As Panther’s men ushered them toward the door, Derrick shot us a venomous look. “Everything here! will be mine one day,” he hissed, his voice low but filled with menace. “And when that day comes, you’ll be the ones leaving.”
“Derrick!” Cecily chided,
eyes as she glanced at her tone was soft, and there was a strange glint of approval in he
eyes as she glanced at her son. It was as if she found pleasure in his defiance.
Just as they were about to leave, Lorik spoke up again, his voice cutting through the tension like a Just as they were about to leave, Lorik spoke up blade. “Andrew.”
Andrew stopped, his hand still gripping Cecily’s arm. “What?”
“The attack.” Lorik said, his tone sharp and probing. “Did you have anything to do with it?”
Andrew’s face twisted into a puzzled frown. “What attack?”
His confusion looked genuine, as though he truly had no idea what Lorik was referring to. But as I shifted my gaze toward Cecily and Derrick, I saw something different. Their bodies had gone rigid, and their faces had briefly frozen, the briefest flicker of guilt flashing across their expressions
before they quickly masked it.
The tension in the room thickened as Ceccily’s fake smile masked her true intentions. “I heard that Lorik was attacked by his rogue big brother, Sharik. Is this true?” she asked, her voice a little too casual for the gravity of the topic.
Andrew’s eyes widened, his face flushing a shade darker with anger. His chest heaved as he fought to control his emotions, but it was a losing battle. “You think I arranged for someone to assassinate
you, Lorik? Are you crazy?!”
His words reverberated through the room, making everyone momentarily freeze. The air was sharp with hostility. Ceccily, standing off to the side, smiled demurely, but the glint in her eyes was anything but innocent. She had expertly cast suspicion not only on Andrew but also stirred doubts between Lorik and his father, leaving a tangled mess of distrust in her wake. This woman wasn’t as
simple as she appeared.
Sensing the brewing storm, I intervened from where I stood. “Lorik didn’t mean that. I spoke with Sharik myself, and he claimed that someone else had stolen his bullets and used them to try to kill
Lorik. He wasn’t behind the attack. Do any of you have a clue who might be?”
Ceccily’s fake smile faltered. Her cheeks flushed an unmistakable crimson, though she quickly trie

to cover it up by looking away. The room fell into silence. Andrew’s fury was still present, but now Inged with a hint of confusion. Neither man spoke, both undoubtedly considering the implications of my words.
“T’ll look into it.” Andrew finally muttered, his voice low, no longer directed at Lorik but more to
himself.
Just as the tension seemed to break, Ceccily, always dramatic, let her voice waver, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “It seems like Lorik and I are not welcome here. Perhaps it’s better if we leave,” she said, glancing between Andrew and me. “Tll take Derrick with me. We’ll be out of your
way.”
Without another word, she turned and began walking toward the door. Andrew, looking as though He wanted to say something, hesitated before going after her. He turned to Lorik, his voice hard, “We’ll talk about this later.” And with that, he left, following Ceccily out the door.
When the dust settled, Lorik was left alone in the living room. He looked exhausted, slouched back into the couch, his normally sharp, stoic face softening in a way I rarely saw. There was a vulnerability in his expression that took me by surprise. Lorik, who was always strong, confident, and seemingly unshakable, now looked as though the weight of everything was finally getting to him.
I didn’t disturb him; there was nothing I could say that would alleviate the strain of betrayal and attack. Instead, I busied myself with small tasks. Later that evening, Lorik was buried in his work, so I joined Daria at the dinner table. She was munching on her rice with her usual enthusiasm, one eye glued to the television set.
Halfway through her meal, she jabbed her fork in the air toward the screen, her mouth full of food. “Look at this! There was a car accident. The news says it might be the same car that woman and her son were in this afternoon. You know, Ceccily and Derrick?”
The bite of food I was about to eat hung suspended in midair as her words settled into my brain. I turned slowly to the TV. There, in the bottom corner, was the live news report. The image of a young female reporter flashed on the screen, standing in front of a smoldering scene of wreckage. Behind her, blackened cars lay scattered around a gas station. The caption at the bottom of the screen. confirmed it–a massive explosion had occurred, taking out multiple vehicles, and they were now confirming fatalities.
