Chapter 163
My hand trembled as I put down my fork. My entire body went cold.
Before I could react, my phone buzzed on the table. I snatched it up, Lorik’s name flashing on the
screen.
“Did you see the news?” Lorik’s voice was urgent, almost strained. “The car they were in–it was involved in the accident. I don’t know if they’re alive or dead.”

My stomach twisted into knots. The idea that Cerelly and Derrick might have been caught up
mething like this was unthinkable, no matter how frustrating they were. But I couldn’t ignore the suspicion creeping into Lorik’s voice. “I don’t think this was just an accident,” he continued. “There’s something more going on.”
“I agree,” I replied, my voice steadier than I felt. “But we need to be cautious. I’ll organize a professional search and rescue team to help. This is serious. I need to be there.”
“You don’t need to-”
“I’m the Luna. I can’t sit here and do nothing.” My tone left no room for argument. “Arrange for someone to pick me up. I’ll meet you at the site.”
Lorik paused for a moment on the other end of the line, then relented. “Fine. I’ll send a car. Be ready.”
An hour later, Lorik’s car pulled up outside. I stepped out into the chilly night and climbed into the back seat, the driver nodding politely before accelerating toward the accident site. The drive was
long and tense, the darkness outside the windows reflecting the heaviness in the air. After more than three hours, we finally arrived at the location.
The scene was even worse In person. Smoke still drifted lazily into the sky, the scent of burnt metal and gasoline thick in the air. Emergency personnel were everywhere, coordinating search and rescue efforts. Floodlights illuminated the wreckage, casting long, eerie shadows over the
destruction.
Lorik was already there, pacing near the perimeter of the wreckage. When he saw me, he approached quickly, his eyes dark with worry. He took my hand, his grip firm but reassuring.

my clothes, and I shivered despite myself. Without a word, Lorik slipped off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. He was left standing in just his shirt, the fabric clinging to his well defined chest and arms, but he seemed unfazed by the cold.
“You should keep it,” I protested, reaching to hand it back to him. “You’ll get cold.”
Lorik’s hand gently pressed mine, keeping the jacket in place. Tm fine. You need it more.”
His voice was soft, almost tender, and the look in his eyes was warmer than the night air. I relented. pulling the jacket tighter around me.
The hours passed slowly as more families arrived, their faces drawn tight with grief and worry. Some sobbed quietly, clutching each other for comfort. Others simply stared at the wreckage, their

emotions in check.
disbelief. My heart ached for them, even as I fought to keep my own!
Finally, one of the search and rescue teams emerged from the wreckage, carrying a stretcher. The figure on it was barely recognizable…
As much as I didn’t like this Mother and son, the news of the accident still made my heart clench. I wasn’t the type of person to wish harm on anyone, and despite their manipulations, seeing anyone involved in something so tragic was jarring.
Lorik went ahead to check the bodies that had been recovered from the wreckage. He returned after a few minutes, shaking his head. “It’s not them,” he said, his face somber but relieved.
Just as the tension seemed to lessen, we saw Andrew and Ceccily arrive. Andrew looked pale and visibly shaken, while Ceccily clung to his arm, her face a perfect picture of distress. Lorik and I exchanged a surprised glance when Andrew revealed that Ceccily had some last–minute business and didn’t get into the car with Derrick. He rubbed his forehead, exhaustion evident in his posture. His next words were even more startling.
“Lorik,” Andrew began, his voice strained, “you wouldn’t have had anything to do with this, would you? This accident… it seems too coincidental.”
