CHAPTER 044
LAURA’S POV
The office fell silent immediately Jason left, and I sat behind his desk, staring at his laptop. His cold rejection stung more than I cared to admit.
Jason was once head over heels for me but now he was rejecting me.
I clenched my fists, my acrylic nails digging into my palms ‘It’s all Ava’s fault,” I muttered.
She was the reason Jason couldn’t see what was right in front of him. She was the reason he kept rejecting me.
e messages.
I took in a sharp breath, then opened my email on my phone and scrolled through the
My heart raced as I found the one from Dr. Samuel Croft, dared a week ago. Clicking it open, I scanned the attached report for what felt like the hundredth time.
Ava Campbell – Pregnancy Confirmation.
The words were like a slap to my face, each letter mocking the. I had gone through this email when Samuel first sent it a week ago but reading it again felt just as painful as the first time.
“She thinks she’s won,” I said bitterly, my voice echoing in the empty office. “She thinks this baby will keep him tied to her.”
I leaned back in my chair, my mind swirling with different thoughts. Jason had told me, very clearly, that he was trying to save his marriage. That he won’t divorce Ava.
I had a feeling Jason wasn’t aware of Ava’s baby and truthfully I was afraid that if he found out she was pregnant, he would even be less likely to divorce Ava.
I hated the way Ava always managed to pull him back, no matter how much I tried to tear them apart. She was always one step ahead.
First, her designs had stolen the spotlight, making her the company’s darling. Now, she was pregnant, if Jason ever finds out about the baby, I knew he would be out of my reach completely.
But I wasn’t going to let her win. She won during Alex’s jewelry launch but she won’t win anymore. Not this time.
So I knew at that moment that the baby had to go.
“She won’t have it all,” I whispered, my lips curling into a cold smile.
I stood up and paced the room, my heels clicking against the tiled floor. I needed a plan… a way to get rid of her and that baby especially without Jason suspecting me. If the baby stayed in the picture, Jason would never be mine.
1 crossed my arms, staring out the window at the beautiful view of the city below but I didn’t feel any peace. All I felt was anger and the burning need to win.
“She’s in the way,” I said softly, my reflection staring back at me. “But she won’t be for long.”
Her confidence always annoyed me, the way she always carried herself like she was untouchable.
I let out a dry cold chuckle. She had no idea what I Laura Martinez was capable of, the extreme length I was willing to take to get what I wanted
I always get what I wanted and this time won’t be any different.
I had to plan my next move and it needs to be subtle. If anything happened to Ava or her baby, I couldn’t let it

might feel obligated to me because of what my family did for his company, but if he ever found out I was behind anything happening to his unborn child, I’m sure he would never forgive me.
But I didn’t need to act directly. I had people who could handle things like this without leaving a trail.
My mind was already racing with ideas, each one more satisfying than the last.
“She won’t get in the way,” I thought. I won’t let her.
To some of the employees in the company who knew what transpired at Alex’s in
launch, I was just the
ambitious design director who wanted more than she deserved. But they didn’t know what it was like to love someone as deeply as I loved Jason.
They didn’t know what it was like to watch the man you love choose someone else, again and again.
I picked up a framed photo in the deepest compartment of my drawer, it was a picture of Jason and me from years ago back then in college.
We were at a birthday party, smiling for the cameras. It had been one of the happiest nights of my life. Back then, I had believed that he was mine, that we were meant to be.
I traced his face with my finger, my heart aching. “You’ll see, Jason,” I whispered. “You’ll see that Ava isn’t the one for you. She doesn’t deserve you.‘
Ava might think she had won, but she had no idea what was coming.
By the time I was done, there would be no baby, no marriage, and no Ava. Jason would finally see that I was the one who had been by his side all along.
And this time, nothing would stop me.
A knock on the door broke my thoughts. I quickly straightened up, forcing a calm expression onto my face.
