Chapter 2 The Truth
A few hours later, an exhausted Grace returned to the mansion. The place was supposed to be the warm and sweet home for her and Antonio. But it was so cold at the moment. She looked up at the second floor. The door of the master bedroom was half open. The light lit the corridor through the crack. Grace sensed an ambiguous romantic mood.
Grace heard whispers inside the room. She hesitated before going upstairs.
She stood outside the room and peeked. And she saw something she could never forget.
Claire was sitting on the couch lazily with a glass of red wine in her hand. She smiled and said in a flirting tone, “I see that you decorated this house based on my liking. You don’t care about Grace.”
Antonio stood next to her and looked down at her. His gentle tone broke Grace’s heart. “Of course. Claire, I’m willing to do whatever you ask.”
Claire chuckled. The tips of her foot grazed the floor. She lifted her leg. The red high heel was sparkling under the light. “Her shoes are the pair I don’t like, right? She’s lucky to have them.”
Antonio laughed lowly and grabbed Claire’s ankle. He said fondly, “I know you don’t like them. But to Grace, they’re a precious gift. You should know. I only feel responsible for her while you’re…”

“I’m what?” Claire drawled and dug her foot into Antonio’s chest defiantly.
“You’re my love.” Antonio raised his head, his eyes full of affection.
Grace bit her lip so hard that it almost bled. Her hand gripped the door frame tightly, her fingernails digging holes in the wooden frame.
“All these years, you’ve never gotten over me. Am I right?” Claire asked smugly. She pouted, “I’m the only woman you’ve ever loved.”
As soon as Claire said the words, Antonio leaned down and pulled her into a deep kiss.
Grace had trouble breathing as if she was under a rock. Tears welled up as she watched the couple kiss.
She started thinking about how she devoted herself to Antonio cautiously and the late nights she spent taking care of a drunk Antonio. She remembered Antonio’s cold rejections whenever she tried to get closer.
Turned out Antonio wasn’t a heartless man. He gave his heart to another woman. Grace’s fingernails were digging into her palms. The sharp pain gave her a moment of clarity, but it couldn’t clear the hopeless feeling.
Grace felt cold as if she had dropped into a bottomless ice cave. She staggered back and slid down with her hand on the wall. The shoes on her feet had hurt her heels again.
She took out the bloody shoes and threw them into the trash
with all the strength she could manage.
