Chapter 9 A Substitute
Grace returned to their villa, which was quiet. The wedding house, which had been arranged in a festive and lively manner, looked deserted. She stood in the doorway and looked at the familiar yet cold house. She threw her wedding dress to the ground and pulled at her luggage.
“There’s nothing I care about in this place,” she whispered to herself.
She began to pack up her things. She was prompt and decisive and selected only a few necessities. She would take nothing else but that. The stuffed drawers were filled with their memories, but now they only disgusted her and depressed her.
Halfway through, she turned on the computer on her desk to clear out her account information. When she opened the browser, a folder of bookmarks popped up on the home page that she had never seen before.
The folder was named “The Moon“. Her brows drew together After a moment of hesitation, she clicked on it.
A private blog interface popped up. The front page was a photo of a bright moon with music playing in the
background. Her finger rested on the mouse, and then she clicked on the first article.

business and was abandoned by his family. Everyone was
trying to keep their distance from him. But, it was also at that time, in a motel in a remote town, that he met “a girl, as gentle and bright as the moon.”
He wrote those words with his deepest emotion.
“Her smile brightened my dark days and made me feel that there was still hope.” “Her smile, like the moonlight, dispelled all my gloom.”
Grace’s hand shivered and she went on reading it.
He wrote a detailed description of the girl’s features, voice, and details, even noting her unintentional words of comfort.
In the end, he wrote, “She brought me hope again, and even made me believe that life was filled with more than one possibility.”
Grace’s frown tightened. She scrolled down and saw some encrypted files that required a passcode.
She tried a few combinations, but none of them was correct. In the end, she had to give up and move on with other writings.
“She left so suddenly and only left a letter.” In that writing, he described how he woke up in the early morning to find the gi had left without saying goodbye, leaving only a short note.
“She said she had to return to her own life, and no matter what, she didn’t belong to my world.”
“I didn’t run after her. Perhaps, I knew she no longer belonge to my world a long time ago.”

In the end, he wrote, “She was like the moon. I could only look. at her from a distance, and she would never be mine.”
Grace closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her heart was filled with despair.
Then, she went on with the next piece of writing, “Another Moon.” The time stamp showed that it was written 3 years ago. It was also the most stable period of their relationship. “Grace is a nice girl and is a little like her.” He wrote.
“Her eyes reminded me of my ‘Moon‘. Her every movement felt familiar to me. So, I told myself, perhaps I could continue to guard my ‘Moon‘ in another way.”
She gasped and stiffened in her chair. She suddenly realized that she was not his “choice“, but a substitute.
