Chapter 13 Do You Know That This Incident Has Disgraced Our Kaufman Family?
As the night fell and Grace left, Antonio sat alone on the balcony, with a burnt cigarette between his fingers. The ground was littered with scattered cigarette butts, but he was oblivious to the cool breeze blowing.
At the entrance, that worn–out wedding dress was still lying there, just like their relationship, which he used to take for granted but now has been shattered.
Ingrid’s phone rang once again. He looked at the screen, a hint of impatience flashing in his eyes. Despite not wanting to answer, his hand trembled as it pressed the answer button.
“Where on earth did Grace go? Do you know? This incident has disgraced the Kaufman family!” The reproachful voice on the phone was sharp and piercing.
Antonio rubbed his forehead, his voice low and weary, “Mom, enough, stop talking about her.”
After hanging up the phone, he walked back to the living room, looking around. Everything in front of him became particularly glaring. Grace left so abruptly, without taking anything with her, but her presence was still everywhere.
Once, everything in the house was neatly organized by her; but now, shards of the mirror still lay scattered on the floor, and even when he was searching for the medicine box, he found that even such mundane matters were left unattended.
He closed his eyes as if he could still hear her gentle voice saying, “Blow on it, and the pain will go away.” When he opened his eyes, however, the reality was cold, with the messy

surroundings highlighting a bone–chilling loneliness.
At that moment, the phone rang again, and the caller ID showed “Claire“. Antonio hesitated for a moment before answering it.
“Brother, is sister angry? Did I do something wrong…” The crying voice on the phone was soft and weak, in the past he would always comfort, but today it just felt grating. His patience had been exhausted, so he perfunctorily responded a few sentences before hanging up the phone.
After a moment of silence, he suddenly stood up and began searching for traces of Grace’s departure. He had to find her, no matter what the cost.
She didn’t take anything with her, from the small cherished dolls from the past to the intricately crafted jewelry, everything was left neatly at home. Those items that were once given meaning by them, now remain as nothing but cold objects.
Just as he was getting lost, an open diary caught his
attention. His eyes fell on a few scribbled lines, instantly recalling Grace’s recent actions and the phone call she made to her mother.
He dialed his assistant’s phone number abruptly, his voice deep and filled with a sense of urgency, “Find out Grace’s mother’s address immediately, I need the fastest result.”
That night, Antonio tossed and turned, with Grace’s departing figure repeatedly appearing in his mind. He had neve
imagined that one day she would be so resolute, not taking anything with her, not even saying goodbye.

On the other side, Grace was lying on a soft bed, sleeping peacefully. She hadn’t relaxed like this in a long time. Away from the suffocating relationships and life that weighed her down, she felt the long–lost sense of freedom for the first time.
In the early morning, the sunlight streamed into the room through the curtains. Grace stretched lazily and got out of bed, changing into simple clothes. She walked into the living room, where she was greeted by a tidy and warm environment – unfamiliar yet comforting.
Judy saw her getting up and her eyes were full of concern, with a hint of reproach in her tone, “Grace, why are you getting up so early? The journey yesterday was so tiring, you should rest a little longer.”
“Mom, I’m fine. I slept well,” Grace replied softly.
As Judy prepared breakfast, she couldn’t help but sigh, “How much hardship have you endured… If only I had known he treated you poorly, I would have never let you go through these grievances.”
Grace smiled and took a sip of the milk on the table, saying, “Mom, there’s no need to bring it up again. I’m okay now.”
Judy watched as her daughter deftly arranged the dishes, her eyes welling up with tears. She wanted to speak up but held back. She knew that Grace wouldn’t easily complain about the past, but the traces of that life were deeply etched in her every move.
“Okay, forget it,” Judy nodded. “From now on, I will be with you, and we will live our own lives, no one could bully you.”

Chapter 13 Do You Know That This incident
Grace felt a warm feeling in her heart, and she held her mother’s hand, saying, “Thank you, Mom.”
After breakfast, Judy took out several pieces of jewelry from the drawer and handed them to Grace, saying, “These are things I have saved over the years. You can use them now, take them all.”
Grace took one of the diamond rings and held it in her hand for a while, smiling as she said, “This ring is much prettier than my wedding ring.”
The mother and daughter smiled at each other, and a warm atmosphere filled the air at that moment.
Just at that moment, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Grace walked to the door, and as she opened it, her smile froze instantly on her face. Standing outside the door was Antonio.
