Chapter 23
CARINA
I glanced back and cursed under my breath. It was true that it looked like we slept on different beds. The couch had Falco’s pillow and blanket.
I turned to Falco with pursed lips. Was this it? We’re we going to get caught after going through all the trouble of getting the permit?
Luna Selene was also at a loss for words. Then, a knowing look passed her eyes as she gazed at the two of us. She shook her head in disappointment.
I smiled sheepishly at her. She didn’t know that we had been sleeping separately.
“You caught us,” Falco suddenly said, making my eyes go wide. He was going to let it go just like that?”
Luna Selene gasped while the council members narrowed their eyes.
“Then, my first assumption was right,” Renesme mumbled, but it was heard clearly by all of us.
“We moved the other pillow here so we can have more space to have sex. We were about to do it when you suddenly arrived,” he suddenly said.
My eyes widened even more, if that was even possible. How could he say it so casually like that?
Then, he walked to where I was, wrapping one arm around my shoulder and bringing me close.
“I know our wedding night is near, but we just can’t help it. Right, my love?” he asked.
“Umm,” I started off, gulping as I felt all of their gazes on me. “Y–yeah,” I stammered, my palms starting to sweat.
Falco smiled and brought me even closer. Our bodies were so close that I could feel my heartbeat against his. “My future wife is a bit shy, isn’t she?”
“Oh,” Renesme said, her posture relaxing. There was a bit of shyness in her eyes.
“So, you’re not sleeping separately? It sure did look like it when we first entered. Carina was already tucked in. I swear, Alpha Falco if I find that the two of you are lying-”
Falco sighed, cutting her off. “Rina likes a lot of space because she moves around. I want the best for my wife. I want her to feel comfortable and receive the most pleasure I could give.”
Luna Selene couldn’t hide her smile. “It’s really like that, isn’t it?” she chimed in. “You know how it is with new couples. They just can’t get their hands off of each other.”
One of the men tilted his head to the side, still appearing unsure. “Is that so?” he asked. “It doesn’t look like that to me. We’ve encountered a lot of couples who tell stories but can’t even do the action. This is exactly why the council decided to conduct the home visits in the first place.”
Falco sighed and put a little bit of distance between us. Then, he held my chin with one hand, bringing my face to meet him.
“Can I?” he asked.
I wordlessly nodded, and before I knew it, he had kissed me.
It wasn’t the type of kiss we’d shared before. The pill–sharing one didn’t count because it was an action of urgency. This one, however, made me feel even more breathless.
He inserted his tongue into my mouth and massaged mine. I let out a small noise, and I felt him smirk against my lips. Along with that, he tightened the hold on my chin.
He kissed so well, and I couldn’t keep up. I wondered where he got all of his experience from. Probably from Natalia, right?
However, I didn’t even have enough time to think about it because he suddenly placed his other arm around my waist. It encircled around it without any effort, keeping me closer.
It felt as if he was afraid of letting go. I was running out of breath, and it was when I snapped back to reality. There were people watching us!
I tapped his chest urgently, and he moved away. “Breathe,” he said with a smirk. He was about to dive right back in again, but I placed some distance between us, my cheeks warming up when I saw the surprised looks on their faces.
Renesme’s cheeks were red, while the two men looked away out of awkwardness. Luna Selene, on the other hand, gave her son a thumbs up.
“I think that sums up how clingy the two of them are,” Luna Selene chuckled, breaking the silence. “I swear–I need to pry their hands away from each other. It’s stressful at times, but it’s also beautiful! We love mates being mates,” she laughed, clapping in enjoyment.
“Well,” Renesme said. “It’s late in the night. We will continue with the observation tomorrow.”
“Oh, of course,” Luna Selene said. “I’ll guide you to our guest rooms. We have plenty, so you’ll have one room each.”
With that, they left the room. Luna Selene gave us one more look, winking as she left with them. Then, she gently shut the door, and that was when I felt my knees buckle.
I held onto the bedpost before slowly lowering myself down. My hands unconsciously reached up to my lips, caressing them gently. It was numb from the long make–out session, but I liked the feeling of it.
Falco sighed as he went to the door and locked it.
I pursed my lips. “Why did you do that?” I asked.
“What? Kiss you?”
I nodded shyly.
“Well, we’d do it anyway,” he said. “It’s better to look natural in situations like this. We’ll also kiss at the wedding.”
“Right,” I muttered, then I slowly scooted to the bed, wrapping the blanket around my body. However, it did little to calm the fire I felt. With every blink, the kiss we shared flashed in my mind.
I frowned, though, when I saw Falco tucking himself on the couch. “You’re not coming to bed?” I asked.
He lifted his head. “Why would I?”
I bit my lip, still feeling his warmth against them. However, the room had gone cold again.
“Good night,” I repeated.
“Hmm,” he hummed.
