“Are you sure you turned off the lights?” Lily asked on the phone.
“When I left, I checked it again.”
“Are you sure?”
“Confirmed.”

Sonya and Lily opened the door while talking on the phone. They agreed that whenever there was any noise on Sonya’s side, Lily would quickly call the police for her.
The living room light was on, and the glass door of the balcony was also open. The wind blew in, causing the curtains to sway back and forth. However, the room was quiet, empty, and tidy, not like it had been entered by a thief.
She walked further inside. There was no one in the living room, nothing in the bedroom, no one in the bathroom, and no one in the kitchen.
“How was it?” Lily asked nervously on the other end.
Sonya was not reassured and took another turn, even checking the wardrobe, making sure that there was no one else in the house besides her.
“Perhaps, it was really me who forgot?”
Lily took a deep breath and said, “You almost scared me to death.”
Sonya put down her luggage, arranged her shoes, and was about to ask Lily how things were going in the group when she heard someone on
the other end.
“Baby, were you trying to seduce me with that pose?”
“I and my friend were on the phone, don’t, don’t bother me.”
“Did you take a shower?”
“Sonya, I’ll hang up first… Ouch, it hurts!”
Sonya hung up the phone in a hurry and patted her chest afterwards. Luckily, she hung up quickly, otherwise she would have heard something she shouldn’t have. However, thinking about the character of this man in Henry’s words, she really worried about Lily.
The curtains in the living room were still swaying, Sonya thought of something and went to the balcony. The next door was lit, very quiet, probably a person, just like her.
She looked at the balcony, which was only half a person tall, and suddenly felt it necessary to install security bars to prevent climbing in through the balcony.
With this thought in mind, she glanced at the next door again.
She hoped she was overthinking.

The next day, Sonya arrived at the clinic early and cleaned it inside and out. Just as she finished cleaning, Calvin arrived and brought her
breakfast.
While there were no customers yet, the two of them ate breakfast and chatted.
Sonya looked at Calvin, who had two big dark circles under his eyes, looking tired and dispirited. She asked him what he had done last night.
“Calvin said, ‘I drove to Queens.“”
“Although Queens is not considered far from New York, it still takes about seven to eight hours for a round trip, right?”
“Well, so I spent most of last night driving,” Calvin said, yawning.
“Do you have something urgent that you have to make a trip to Queens overnight?”
“I wasn’t in a hurry, cough cough, someone else was.”
“Who?”
“I, my girlfriend.”
Sonya blinked her eyes and said, “You have a girlfriend? When did that happen?”
She didn’t know at all.

“We had just met, and we had only known each other for less than a week.
“Love at first sight?”
“She thought I looked handsome, and I thought she looked beautiful, so we gave it a try. We were both quite satisfied, so we decided to start
dating.”
Tried it?
Sonya didn’t want to think crookedly, but looking at Calvin’s expression, it really was just as she had thought.
“Are you an adult? Before developing any emotions, you have to first see if the hardware is compatible. I think that’s what being rational means, Calvin poked Sonya’s chin, seeking resonance,
‘I didn’t make any comments, Sonya shook her head.
Calvin shrugged, “She lived in Queens, so if I wanted to date her, I had to do a long–distance relationship.”
“So, last night you…”
“We drove for four hours to get there, had a productive discussion, and then drove back for another four hours, just in time for our clinic to
open.”
Sonya stared at Calvin speechlessly and said, “You are out of your mind. Go home and rest immediately
“I was fine.”
“No, I don’t want my colleague to die suddenly due to overwork.”
Sonya kicked Calvin out of the house and turned around to find his bag still on the couch. She quickly picked it up, only to realize that the bag was not zipped. Accidentally, she spilled everything out of his bag.
Actually, there wasn’t much inside, just a phone, keys, a wallet, and… a stack of money.
Calvin had just left when he realized he had forgotten his bag, so he hurried back to get it, only to find this pile of things on the ground.
“Sonya, be careful, don’t break my phone,” Calvin’s primary concern was his phone.
“Why did you bring so much cash with you when you went out?” Sonya asked, pointing at the stack of money on the ground.
Calvin was confused for a moment,“You said the money was in my bag?”
“Don’t you know?”
Calvin looked at the stack of money and carefully thought about it, coming up with a possibility.
“She put it in your bag,” Sonya said for him without him having to say it.
Calvin nodded and shook his head,“But why did she give me money?”
Sonya moved closer to Calvin and patted his shoulder, “Um, maybe you thought you two were dating, but she felt…”
“What?”
“Spent money to buy services.”
Calvin split open right there,“No wonder she said she wanted to support me.”
“Did you not realize when she said this?”
“I thought she was praising my skills.”
“How many twists and turns has your mind taken? People have already spoken straightforwardly, and yet you are still indulging in
self–admiration.”
Calvin held his head, with a face full of sorrow:“As a grown man, do I really need her to support me financially? I… it’s so damn humiliating.”
Sonya turned her head and looked at Calvin, seeing that he was about to cry.
“Alright, go home and take a nap first. When you wake up, give her a call and talk things out.”
Sonya handed the package to Calvin, pushed him out, and closed the door.
The whole morning was quite busy, and by noon, the last patient was sent away. Just as she was about to catch her breath, someone else arrived. She was wearing a fisherman’s hat, big sunglasses, and wrapped herself tightly with a scarf.

She looked around as soon as she came in, probably checking if there were any other customers.
“Hello?” Sonya greeted her.
The person probably confirmed that there was no one else in the clinic except Sonya, so he untied the scarf, took off his sunglasses, and form lifted his head.
“Ms. Ella, it’s me.”
Sonya frowned slightly, and it turned out to be Lyla.
“Can I lock the door? Lyla pleaded.
Sonya looked at her, her expression turning cold.
Lyla pursed her lips, afraid of angering Sonya, so she didn’t bother with the door and walked inside.
She sat down in the patient’s position and hesitated for a moment before speaking, ‘Ms. Ella, I, I came to treat you?
Sonya squinted her eyes, wondering why people would go to various hospitals and clinics to seek treatment when they could just come to her directly.
Lyla’s face turned a little embarrassed when she saw Sonya not responding
“I need to trouble Ms. Ella to keep this a secret,” Lyla said, exhaling a breath and then looking up at Sonya “Ms. Ella has heard about my pregnancy, right? Actually, the reason I came today is to ask Ms. Ella to help me terminate this pregnancy?
“What did you say?” Sonya doubted if she had heard it correctly.
“Because of this child, Henry no longer intends to get engaged to me, so I must get rid of him, I must!” Lyla said urgently.
Sonya lowered her gaze and pondered for a moment, So this child isn’t Henry’s?”
