Chapter 16
Oliver told Nina we got married, and I could hear her squealing over the phone in excitement. She told us she was happy and couldn’t wait to see their parents‘ faces when they learnt about it. When Oliver told her we would return today, she wished us a safe flight and instructed him to keep me
safe before ending the call. He also called, Vivian Aina, his best friend who was studying in the UK and broke the news to him. Vivian, although surprised by the drastic move, video called us to wish us a happy unton and journey ahead.
On our way back, Oliver revealed that he had gotten an apartment a few weeks ago when the thought of marrying me came to him. He had made a down payment on an apartment near Harvard and finished it on our first day in Vegas. He didn’t want me returning to my old place, so he made this purchase the day after we left here. He had begun working on designs and redecoration while we were still on our three–day honeymoon.
He also moved his things in but didn’t do anything about mine because he didn’t want to arouse suspicion, but we would head to the apartment once we arrived. He informed Seth about our new apartment, but he refrained from sharing the details of our wedding. His brother was already on their parents‘ blacklist, and Oliver didn’t need to give them more reason to disown him.
“I have to tell Grandma we got married as soon as we arrive,” I told him as we stepped out of the
plane,
I have called her in the last three days to ask about her health, and she told me Onu and Maria had taken her home with them so they could look after her. She told me I did not need to worry and that I should enjoy my break, take care of myself, and send her regards to Oliver. I didn’t tell her we got married over the phone; I wanted to do it in person.
“Good then, we can go together.”
I wanted to object, then realised we were married, and there was nothing I needed to keep away
from him.
We drove over to Onu’s house, and after knocking on the door, Maria came and opened it for us.
“Imela.” She smiled.
“Aunt Maria,” I smiled back.
Her eyes moved toward Oliver, and they flickered adorably. “You must be Oliver; Elena has told me so much about you.” She stepped out of the way to let us in.
Oliver looked surprised as we entered the house. “I hope they are good things, though.”

“They are.” She assured him with a nod.
We came to where Elena was, and as soon as her eyes landed on us, she rose to her feet and hurried over to hug me and Oliver. “How are you two?”
“We are fine, mama,” I answered while Maria left the living room for the kitchen, leaving the three
of us alone.
“I didn’t get a call this morning, and I figured you two were busy.” She said as she returned to her seat, and we came to take the couch closest to her.
“We lost track of time,” I answered, falling back to memory lane and remembering what had transpired this morning between Oliver and me.
“I’m glad you are okay.” She said, and her eyes had the most adoration in them.
“We are more than fine, mama; we got married,” I replied, grinning happily and showing her my
ring.
It took her a few seconds to fully grasp what I had said, but when she did, her eyes widened.
“You got married?” she asked, and her wide eyes were now glassy.
I nodded. “Yes, mama.”
Tears ran down her face. “I wish your mother was here to see you so happy. I know she will be happy about how well your life turned out. Congratulations on your wedding; though I wasn’t there to see you two wed, I know it was beautiful.”
“I am sorry we got married the way we did. I promise you; we will have a grand wedding, and you will be the mother of the day.” Oliver vowed, and Elena seemed to love it.
We spent another hour with her before leaving for the apartment, and I promised her I would visit
once we settled into our new place.
Oliver had yet to tell me about the place. He wanted me to be surprised, and he told me I wouldn’t be blown away, but he just wanted to be humble.
We drove off, and I counted down the minutes until we would arrive at our new home. My eyes also
stayed fixated on the road, noting that this location was for the rich and well–to–do amongst us.
Oliver’s attempt at moderation seemed to have failed.
I felt a warm hand on me, and my eyes moved quickly to find Oliver’s hand on my slightly exposed lap.

“This isn’t moderate,” I said before he could ask what was going through my mind. Where we headed wasn’t a simple neighbourhood like where I used to live.
His eyes betrayed him because the blue orbs flickered with guilt. “We could meet in the middle. It
isn’t a mansion or a penthouse; it is an apartment, so it isn’t very expensive.” He said it with a pout, and his hand moved higher. “I am learning not to throw money around just like you want; I am a good husband.”
I wanted to speak, but his hand was already on my thing, singing wonderfully thereon and bringing about my undoing. A low moan escaped my lips when he glided his hand up to rubbed against me softly.
I had a strict rule on modesty, especially in public, but right now, I can’t even remember that rule. “You are a hand… full of a husband.” I moaned.
“You are right, I am.” He pulled closer, and his lips teased mine as they hovered without claiming them.
“We are here,” the driver announced.
Oliver withdrew his fingers and pulled away, and I whimpered out in grief, biting down on my lip in frustration.
The door opened, and I stepped out, my legs trembling a little because the nerves were set loose without being satisfied. Oliver appeared beside me and wrapped his arms around my waist to keep me standing.
I leaned heavily against him, his rich, manly smell engulfing me.
I stared up at the seven–story building that stood before me, but I didn’t get to speak, not after what Oliver had done to me, so I just marvelled at it.
“Our apartment is on the fifth floor; that way, you can see the sunrise every day, just like you told me you once had when you were back home.” He said.
I pressed my lips together, realising what this meant. He might have moved to a different location from where I lived, but he did it for me. I had told him one of my favourite things was watching the sun rise while growing up. Since moving here for university, I haven’t gotten the opportunity to see the sunrise. Not only did I live on the ground floor, but a four–story building prevented me from seeing the sunrise daily.
The sun rising was one of those little things, yet it mattered so much to me and him as well.
I glanced at him with glassy eyes. “You didn’t have to.”

He didn’t argue. “I know, I wanted to. Now come and check out the inside. Nina requested that her friend work on it. I gave her your favourite colour, amber, and mine, black. She finished a few hours ago and sent pictures, but I want us to see them in person.”
“How did I get so lucky?” I blurted out as I gazed up at him, filled with wonder.
“I don’t know, how did you?” he asked with a cocky look on his face. “You were first kind to me and saved me, and that was how you got lucky.” He said that and pulled me along with him into the
building.
We took the elevator, and Oliver took the chance that we were alone to kiss and get handsy with me.
Once we came to the fifth floor, Oliver dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out his key card. He
swiped it over the door, and it opened for us.
We stepped inside only to meet Ivory standing at the centre of the living room, and she looked to be
waiting for us. She had a cold look on her face, and her arms were crossed over her chest.
My breathing suddenly became laboured, and my palms became sweaty.
This was the reality I didn’t want to come back to–the reality where Ivory, Oliver’s mom, was a part
of it.
