The next morning, as Karry prepared to leave, I stopped him. “Tomorrow’s our five–year anniversary. I’ve made a reservation. Let’s have dinner together.”
Karry had learned to roll with my random–ass ideas like a pro surfer riding my chaos waves. He frowned but didn’t refuse. He just nodded before leaving.
Perhaps fueled by anticipation, the day flew by. It was also the day of my planned fake death.
I dressed meticulously, and went to
the restaurant with Karry. The ambiance
—
was perfect soft lighting cast a warm,
romantic glow. Karry’s gaze flickered
with a strange emotion.

But the tranquility didn’t last. A
frantic phone call shattered the silence.
It was Celia. Karry frowned but still
answered.
Celia’s voice was choked with tears.”
Karry, I had a car accident. Can you come to the hospital?”
Karry’s frown deepened. He looked
at me. I lowered my utensils.“I heard that.
Do you want to go?”
He didn’t hesitate.“We can celebrate
our anniversary anytime. Celia needs me
now.”
I said nothing, simply watching him.
His heart pounded; he’d always been
frighteningly calm, but this time he felt a

surge of uncontrolled emotion.
He added, unusually, “I’ll make it up
to you. We can celebrate next time.”
Then, he left.
I didn’t stop him. After a long
moment, I whispered, “Karry, there won’t
be a next time.”
I finished my dinner alone, watching
the night deepen. A man came to my
table.
“Miss Kane, everything is ready.”
Without looking up, I replied calmly,”
Good.”
With the arrangements complete, I
stood, glancing at the restaurant where

for the last time. Then, I turned and
walked away. I was going to the airport.
“Karry, this time, I’m handing you
over to your heroine. This wicked
villainess is logging out of your life
permanently!” I said in my mind.
