Celia followed Karry in. The servant frantically tried to stop them, but she
failed.
The sudden opening of the door
made me turn. I looked up and met their
gazes.
“You’re not dead!” Celia’s shock broke
through first. Then, her anger surged. So, this was a trap all along, wasn’t it? Emily had pretended to help her get closer to
Karry, but she herself faked her death to
secure her place in Karry heart, and then
returned at the opportune moment to steal Karry away.
The venom in Celia’s eyes was almost unconcealed; my parents noticed, their

The breathless servant apologized, “I‘ m sorry, they just barged in. I couldn’t stop
them…”
My mother didn’t blame her. She
relievedly left.
I looked at Karry and Celia, my tone sharp.“I don’t remember inviting you guys. What do you want?”
Karry apologized for his rudeness.“I‘
m sorry, Emily. I just wanted to talk to you.”
Remembering Celia, he rubbed his
temples in frustration. She was like a
stubborn shadow, following him
everywhere.
He turned to her, his impatience

evident.“Why are you here? Don’t you
have anything better to do?”
Celia felt a familiar sting of hurt. She loved Karry; she was terrified of losing
him. Why wouldn’t he even let her stay with him? They’d been childhood
sweethearts; didn’t he care about her at all?
To avoid annoying Karry, Celia left. But she lingered outside, waiting for him.
My parents exchanged glances, then looked at Karry and me. Silence stretched between us. Finally, my father cleared his throat.“We still have plans. I’ll leave you
guys to it. Don’t fight.”
They left, leaving us alone. After a
long pause, Karry spoke, “Emily…”
