Chapter 106
Chapter 106
Laura lowered her eyelashes and remained silent.
Lewis slightly stood up, picked up the coffee pot, and added some water to Laura’s coffee cup. “Laura, do what you think is right, don’t worry about what we think.”
Laura’s fingers were intertwined. “I dare not go back to my parents. If dad knows I’m divorcing Matteo, he will definitely not agree, and might even scold me. I want to have a home of my own, with me and Ari; that’s all.”
“Laura, I support you.” Doris also didn’t want Laura to go back to the Webb family’s hell–like house.
Laura smiled slightly, “I’ll start looking for a job tomorrow, for myself, for Ari, and for our new life.”
She believed that as long as she bravely took the first step, life would gradually get better.
As soon as lunch was over, Ivan stood up to leave. “Laura, Doris, I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave now.”
He was always busy, even this lunch time was squeezed out, entirely for Lewis‘ sake.
“Mr. Mitchell, thank you.” Doris and Laura both thanked him.
“Lewis‘ matters are my matters, and besides, I’m not working for free. I’ll ask him for payment.” Ivan looked at Lewis, his eyes sparkling. “If there’s anything, just find me, don’t be polite.”
After Ivan left, Doris looked at Lewis. “You should go back to work too. Don’t delay your work.”
“No hurry; it’s close to the company.” Lewis raised his wrist and glanced at his watch. “There’s still half an hour. I’ll stay and have some more coffee with you.”
Lewis poured the coffee and gently placed the cup in front of Laura. “Where are you planning to stay with Ari?”
“I plan to rent a place first; a one–bedroom apartment would be enough for the two of us, and it would be cheaper.” Laura didn’t have much money.
“I have a friend who is a real estate agent, I’ll ask him if there’s anything suitable,” Lewis said.
Laura said, “Much obliged.”
Lewis glanced at Doris. “No biggie. Doris‘ sister is like family to me.”
Doris and Laura were both grateful for Lewis‘ help.
“Doris, before the house is found, Laura will stay at our place first,” Lewis suggested proactively. “You take Laura and Ari home later.”
Doris and Laura looked at each other.
Doris hadn’t mentioned to Lewis about letting Laura stay temporarily at Greenlake Hill, and Laura also didn’t want to disturb Doris‘ married life, but she really had no place to go now.
Laura said, “Lewis, then I won’t stand on ceremony, I’ll trouble you for some time. Please ask your friend to find me an apartment as soon as possible.”
“Okay.” Lewis nodded, and instructed Doris, “Doris, take good care of sister and Ari, I’ll go to work now.”
“Go ahead. I’ll wait for you to have dinner tonight.” Doris stood up and naturally held his arm.

His gaze fell on her fair fingers, and he smiled, “Okay.”
Once Lewis left, Laura looked at Doris whose gaze was still fixed on the private room door, and teased, “Can’t bear un part You’ll see him tonight, won’t you?”
“Laura, I don’t.” Doris‘ ears turned red, her face flushed.
“You say you don’t, but look, your face is red.” Laura pulled Doris‘ hand to sit down.
“I told you, even if I didn’t mention you staying at Greenlake Hill, he would have offered.” Doris quickly changed the subject “Now you don’t have to feel burdened.”
“Doris, Lewis is so good to you; you must treat him well. If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t have helped me
“Laura, we’re family, so helping each other is what we should do.”
“You’re my sister, it’s natural for you to help me, but Lewis and I have no blood relation. If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t have to get involved in such a mess. I can’t take this for granted. Doris, he must care about you a lot, right?”
Doris didn’t believe that Lewis loved her, but she didn’t say anything.
Although they had no feelings to each other, Lewis was a very qualified husband, giving her the respect and support she deserved. He didn’t slight her because of her family’s messy affairs.
In comparison, the Webb family always thought Laura had married above her station, always putting on airs.
She felt very lucky, Lewis was good, and his family were kind. She could feel the good family vibe.
Doris heard Laura continue, “Doris, I finally understand why you married Lewis in a flash. Lewis is as handsome as a star, kind and warm–hearted; it’s hard not to fall in love with him at first sight.”
“Laura, are you saying I fell in love with him at first sight?” Doris felt she didn’t misunderstand, right?
“Isn’t it? Otherwise, why would you impulsively marry him?” Laura stared at Doris‘ facial expression.
“Laura, actually, we…” Doris was just thinking how to explain when her phone beeped.
It was a notification of transfer of 1500 dollars from Lewis and his message: [While Laura is staying at our home, buy some good food to treat her. Sorry but I can’t help with cooking.]
Doris felt warmed, her lips slightly trembling.
“Doris, what’s wrong?” Laura saw Doris stunned, the corners of her eyes tinged with light red.
“No… nothing.” Doris shook her head, forcing a smile. “Lewis transferred me 1500 dollars; he wants me to buy some good things for you and Ari. Don’t be polite; we have money to spend.”
“See, this is called love me, live my dog,” Laura said with relief, also feeling a lot of emotions.
Matteo ran a small company, and the Webb family lived in a spacious villa, but they never gave her 1500 dollars for household expenses at once.
Laura hoped Doris and Lewis could always be so loving, not like her and Matteo.
Doris and Laura went to the market on their way back and bought a lot of ingredients.
Laura told Doris not to buy so much, but she said, “This is the task Lewis gave me; if I don’t do it, what if he scolds me when he comes back? Or, you call him and tell him yourself.”

Laura had no choice but to let her be. They returned to Greenlake Hill with a full load
Arianna would take a nap every day, so she was already asleep by now.
Laura helped Doris sort out the ingredients.
Doris said, “Laura, I’m a bit sleepy. I’ll go take a nap first.”
Laura said, “Doris, do you have a computer? I want to use one.”
“Yes, I’ll get it for you. Doris went to the room to get the computer for Laura. “Laura, what are you going to do!”
