Chapter 114
Lewis and Danis washed their hands and sat down at the table.
Doris and Laura served them rice.

“Danis, my sister and I made some home–cooked dishes. Don’t be shy, eat up.” Doris enthusiastically served Danis a bowl of winter melon soup.
“Thank you. Doris. I won’t be shy.” Danis was about to reach for it when Lewis intercepted it halfway.
Danis‘ hand froze mid–air, and he said with dissatisfaction, “Lewis, that was for me.”
Doris, now empty–handed, frowned slightly and glanced at Lewis, who was causing trouble. She comforted Danis, “Danis, I’ll get you another one.”
Lewis grabbed Doris‘ wrist. “Doesn’t he have hands? Can’t he serve himself? Why do you have to serve him?”
“Danis is a guest in our home for the first time.” Doris leaned closer to him and whispered, “He’s your brother.”
“So what if he’s my brother? He’s not a guest.” Lewis smirked and glanced at Danis.
Doris felt helpless arguing with him.
“Doris, I have hands. I’ll serve myself.” Danis regretted coming for dinner. He thought, ‘Lewis‘ possessiveness is terrifying. He even got jealous of his own brother‘
At that moment, Laura took the initiative to serve Danis a bowl of soup.
“Thank you, Laura.” Danis took the bowl with both hands.
“You’re welcome. Eat up,” Laura smiled.
At the dinner table, Laura and Doris treated Danis with great hospitality, yet Lewis was cold and indifferent to him.
After dinner, Danis stayed for a short while before leaving. He had an early surgery the next morning and needed to rest well to be in top condition.
After Laura put Arianna to sleep, Lewis, who was waiting in the living room, had Doris call Laura over.
“Laura, I’ve found a place for you. It has great facilities and convenient transportation.” Lewis informed her.
“When can I move in?” Laura’s eyes lit up with joy at the good news.
“Anytime.”
“How about tomorrow?”
“Sure,” Lewis agreed. “I’ll take you there after work tomorrow.”
“Thank you for your trouble.”
The next day after work, Lewis came home, and both Doris and Laura were waiting for him.
He drove them to Green Wonders.

Danis‘ place was on the 6th floor, a spacious two–bedroom apartment covering over 1,000 square feet.

Lewis entered the password and opened the door. The interior was clean and tidy, decorated in a modern minimalist style.

“The living room is quite spacious, and the lighting is good.” Doris walked toward the floor–to–ceiling window. “You can even grow some flowers on the balcony.”
Laura looked around. “The master bedroom is big, and so are the kitchen and bathroom.”
“It seems Laura is satisfied.” Doris placed a hand on Laura’s shoulder.
“But it’s a two–bedroom. In this location, with this kind of decor, the rent must be expensive.” Laura was more concerned about the price. “Ari and I only need a one–bedroom.”
That way, they could save one or two thousand dollars for living expenses.
“Laura, a home should be comfortable.” Lewis said, “The rent will be 700 dollars.”
“700 dollars?” Laura’s face showed disbelief as she held up two fingers.
Green Wonders was a high–end community. The rent couldn’t possibly be less than 1500 dollars, and for a place this nice, 2000 dollars would be reasonable.
Laura thought, ‘How could the landlord only charge 700 dollars?‘
“Lewis, you shouldn’t take a loss just because I’m Doris‘ sister.” Laura felt that Lewis must have covered part of the rent.
“I’m not taking a loss.” Lewis lied with a straight face. “This place belongs to a friend of mine. He moved abroad before he could live here.
“He doesn’t need the money, so he’s not planning to sell it. The place is just sitting empty, so he doesn’t care much about the
rent.
“He just wants someone reliable to look after the place. Since he knows you’re my sister, he’s comfortable letting you live here and only asked for 700 dollars as a token.
“Laura, just settle in here with Ari. It’s not far from where we live, so it’s convenient for us to help out.”
Lewis didn’t want to charge Laura any rent, but he knew she was a proud person. She wouldn’t accept charity and would feel uneasy, so 700 dollars was a way to ease her burden and let her live comfortably.
“Laura, this place is really nice. The owner has his reasons, and if he doesn’t feel like he’s losing out, then he’s not. Don’t overthink it,” Doris whispered in Laura’s ear.
Laura thought her words made sense and nodded in agreement.
She said to Lewis, “Lewis, thank you for your trouble. I’ll take good care of your friend’s place.”
“Then my effort is worth it.” Lewis felt relieved now that Laura had made her decision. “It’s getting late. Let’s go eat first, and then head to the supermarket to buy what’s missing.”
“You’re the boss.” Doris‘ eyes were filled with a spreading smile.
“Ari, what do you want to eat?” Lewis picked up Ariannă.
Arianna said, “I want chicken wings.”
Lewis said, “Alright, we’ll have chicken wings.”
Chapter 114
After dinner, they carried bags of groceries into the apartment.
Doris helped Laura make the bed, while Lewis played with Arianna in the living room, building with the new Work fung had bought.
Doris Huffed the pillows. “Laura, has your husband called in the past couple of days?
Laura shook her head. “I don’t expect him to call and check on us. As long as he don’t try to take A away from me. I’m

“Laura, if your husband changes his mind and asks you to return to the Webb family, would you agree to go back and continue living with him?” Doris asked.
“No,” Laura said firmly and clearly. “Once I made this decision, I never thought about turning back. Even if I went hark we couldn’t return to how things were.
“I don’t want to be trapped in that house, enduring humiliation, always being the obedient wife, and resigning myself to being just a housewife.
“All these years, I’ve lived for him. This time, I want to live for myself and do what I want to do.
“Doris, since I left the Webb family, I’ve felt so relaxed and happy. Why would I want to go back and bury myself in that pir of despair? In this world, no one needs to stay with someone else to survive.

“Lewis, my sister and her husband are really over.” Doris felt emotional. “I still remember how passionately my brother–in- law pursued my sister. I really wanted her to be happy, but now everything has changed.”
“People can change.” Lewis recalled seeing Matteo with a young woman yesterday. “Matteo isn’t worth it.”
“He’s not worth it. He’s caused my sister so much pain and suffering.” Doris couldn’t forgive Matteo.
“Doris, there’s something I need to tell you.” Lewis looked serious.
“Go ahead.” It seemed important.
“Matteo is having an affair.”
