Chapter 6
Sandy’s fingers danced over the screen, a soft chuckle escaping his lips as he typed.
“Where are you going? Go cry to Luna? Grace, you’re not a puppy anymore, can you stop tattling to Luna every time there’s a problem?”
Before he could finish typing, the driver slammed on the brakes.
The sudden jolt sent both Sandy and Lily flying forward, caught off guard by the force.
Lily let out an indignant shriek, “Can you drive properly? I almost hit my head!”
Sandy flung open the car door and rushed out, too preoccupied to retrieve his phone that had fallen
beneath the seat.
The last message, still unfinished, blinked on the screen.
The thick smoke swirling into dark clouds that seemed to descend like a cloak of night. The flames painted the windows with an eerie glow, punctuated by the sharp crackle of glass shattering and the roar of the fire.
The Beta, just having emerged from the inferno, spotted Sandy and immediately stormed over. Without a word, he threw his mask at Sandy’s head.
“Do you have any idea how critical a fire is?” the Beta snapped. “You were closest! The pack’s support teams have all arrived, and your squad is nowhere to be found! There are ten dead, dozens injured! ”
The first stretcher carried out my body, and others followed, more casualties from the fire. Out of respect, someone draped a white sheet over me, hiding the disfigured remains of my body, leaving only my limp hand exposed.
Sandy’s eyes locked on the bracelet that hung precariously from my wrist, half dangling as though caught between life and death. His breath hitched.
This bracelet was his mating ritual gift to me, engraved with a vine motif representing werewolf love.
The Beta, his voice tinged with grief, spoke again. “Sandy, this is a matter of life and death! There

can’t be any slack! This is the only fatality at the scene–a young she wolf, barely in her twenties. She was burned alive… there’s barely a corpse left!”
Sandy took a long, steadying breath. When he looked up again, his face had transformed, regaining its usual calm and control. “I’m sorry. I took the team on an urgent mission. We came as soon as we received the message, but the location was far.”
The Beta, seeing Sandy admit fault, softened a bit, though his concern didn’t dissipate entirely. He patted Sandy on the shoulder, his voice still firm. “The fire’s under control. You and your team handle the cleanup. Stay safe.”
Sandy nodded, about to step toward the building to continue his work, but the Beta’s gaze fell on Lily, still hiding inside the car. His calm demeanor evaporated into pure fury.
“This is your so–called ‘urgent mission‘?” the Beta roared. “You leave the public to burn while you play house with a girl who uses depression as an excuse for attention?”
Sandy froze. The weight of the accusation hung heavy in the air. “I’m not meddling in your personal life, but this is work time! Can’t you keep your games behind closed doors?”
The Beta continued, voice rising. “And for Moon Godness’s sake, you’re Grace’s mate, You are about to complete your mating ritual! It’s time to get your priorities straight!”
Sandy didn’t answer, and stole another glance at my body.
He stiffly stepped forward and carefully observed the bracelet on my corpse’s wrist, muttering, “Coincidence……
It must be a coincidence.”
When I left my lair with Sandy, I took only a few clothes.
I didn’t take any of the jewelry gifts he gave me.
Sandy probably thought of that too, his expression settled down and he focused on his work.
But he probably forgot that this bracelet was our love token.
I never took it off until I died.
