Chapter 9
Greg’s eyes were bloodshot, and his face took on a frightening appearance.
“Kenneth, did you tell Everly about my affairs?”
Kenneth paused, then laughed.
“She broke up with you? At least she showed some backbone.”
As soon as he spoke, Greg punched him.
Oddly, Kenneth felt relieved, not angry.
Greg clenched his teeth, grabbing Kenneth’s collar.
“Do you dare say that again?”
“Why not?”
Kenneth smiled, showing no fear, only ease and excitement.
“Everly broke up with you. No, she ended the engagement. Greg, Everly doesn’t love you anymore. How many times? I can repeat it as much as you want.”
The harsh words felt like a nightmare, gripping Greg tightly.
He suddenly felt weak and leaned against the wall.
No, wasn’t Ayleen the one he loved?
Why was he so heartbroken over Everly leaving?
Why did his heart ache at the sight of her sadness, yet feel a surge of joy when he gazed into her gentle eyes?
An answer was surfacing from the depths.
He loved Everly.
Without realizing it, he had fallen deeply in love with her.
Kenneth saw Greg standing still and sneered, pushing him away and leaving.
On Ayleen’s hospital discharge day, her parents threw a big party.
They mentioned that Everly’s presence had brought Ayleen a great deal of suffering, and they were eager to do more to lift Ayleen’s spirits.
All guests arrived, and Ayleen was dressed beautifully.

Her parents surrounded her, their eyes full of love, praising her.
Ayleen feigned sensibility, saying, “I wonder if Everly has a dress as nice as this one. Maybe I should offer it to her.”
Marge Interjected, “She doesn’t deserve it! Beautiful clothes are meant for someone as lovely as you, my dear. Giving it to her would be an absolute waste!”
Ayleen’s father, Harrison, nodded in agreement. “This dress is exquisite. Giving it to Everly would

Ayleen’s eyes teared up, looking moved.
“Thank you, Mom and Dad. I’ve always felt inferior to Everly because of my health, talents, and academic performance. But you’ve always treated me with equal love and care. I’m so grateful.”
They hugged, creating a warm scene.
If Everly were there, she would feel sad and envious.
But now, she had her own family abroad, with many people loving her.
The Olson family mattered no more to her.
Kenneth stood aside, listening to Ayleen, Harrison, and Marge.
He felt a bitter taste in his heart.
Why had he thought Everly was arrogant in the Olson family?
Now it was clear she was the most unloved, wasn’t she?
Kenneth remembered the day Greg’s proposal succeeded, when Everly left the Olson house without looking back.
He had called her ungrateful with Harrison and Marge.
Only now did he realize how wrong he had been.
He pondered over what he had overheard outside Ayleen’s hospital room.
Kenneth felt a chill.
Ayleen had taken Everly’s graduate spot and spread rumors, claiming she passed the exanis.
She said Everly, out of jealousy, pushed her down the stairs.
Everyone, including him, thought Ayleen was pitiful and resilient.
They all believed Everly was vicious and jealous, constantly hurting Ayleen.
