Rosaline struggled angrily. “Caden, that’s enough! Let go of me. Who’s Tessa? What nonsense is this?!”
Her resistance and irritation were like a bucket of cold water dumped over my head, extinguishing all the hope and anticipation I had moments before.
1 let go of her, leaned back in my chair, and asked, “Why did my button end up with you?”
Rubbing her wrist, Rosaline glared at me and said sharply, “Last night, you got drunk and wouldn’t get off the floor. When I tried to pull you up, your button popped off.”
I immediately followed up, “So, you’re the one who helped me back to my room last night?”
“Yeah, but then Queenie insisted on taking over. You two siblings really have a strong bond, don’t you?” I caught the sarcasm in her tone, but it didn’t bother me
Queenie was nothing more than a sister to me–there could never be anything more between
Scenes from last night began flashing in my mind again I had been drunk, but everything had felt incredibly vivid.
I saw Tessa. I held her hand, spoke to her. She had gently urged me not to lie on the floor.
The sensation felt so real when she pulled me up.
But if Rosaline was the one who helped me up, then what I saw last night… could it have been her?
Rosaline isn’t Tessa…..
But why does she give me the exact same feeling as Tessa?
Suddenly, I stood up, closing the distance between us in just a few steps.
I looked down at Rosaline with a mix of hope and intensity. In a soft voice, I asked, “Rosaline, are you absolutely sure you’ve never been kidnapped before?”
Rosaline’s POV:
At this moment, there was a tenderness in Caden’s gazethat I had never seen before.
The low, magnetic timbre of his voice had a seductive pull, like a powerful undertow that could drag
someone under.
I froze for a moment, caught off guard. If I wasn’t mistaken, this was the second time Caden had asked me this question.
Why was he so fixated on whether or not I’d been kidnapped?
Meeting his deep, penetrating gaze that seemed capable of swallowing a person whole, I straightened up and replied seriously. “Caden, I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with asking this, but let me make it clear to you one last time–I have never been kidnapped. Not once!”

But I could see the light in Caden’s eyes dim as his expression shifted from hopeful to disappointed in an
instant.
Seeing him like this, my curiosity was piqued, and I couldn’t resist asking, “Who’s Testa? Is she a girl you like?
“She’s someone very important to me,” Caden said after a brief pause.
Important? Sounds like he means he’s in love with her.
Since Caden clearly didn’t want to elaborate, I decided not to press further..
Out of nowhere, Caden’s voice deepened slightly as he asked, “What’s this? Are you jealous?” His tone was deliberate, with a teasing lilt at the end, carrying a hint of flirtation..
Jealous?
Oh. Moon Goddess, this quasi–Alpha has an ego the size of a mountain!
Does he really think every she–wolf in the world is dying to have him?
Well, even if that were true, I would certainly be the exception.
I looked him straight in the eye and said seriously, “Caden, stop acting ridiculous. I don’t care about your personal life. Whoever you like has nothing to do with me. You need to recognize what we are to each other.
“We only have a three–month agreement–oh wait, it’s already less than three months. Just two months and three weeks left. Once this contract is over, we’re strangers. Got it?”
“Rosaline,” Caden said, clearly unhappy with my serious and indifferent tone. His expression darkened as he grabbed my arm. “Am I really just an irrelevant stranger to you?”
“What else would you be?” I shrugged, glancing pointedly at his hand gripping my arm. My voice dropped. as I said firmly, “You’re hurting me. Let go of me!”
But Caden didn’t seem to hear me. He didn’t loosen his grip.
His jaw was tight, his brow furrowed, and a mix of complicated emotions flickered in his usually cold, unreadable eyes.
I tried to break free, but his grip was too strong.
We just stood there, locked in a tense standoff as if time itself had frozen.
“Rosaline, what are you doing?!” A sudden female voice shattered the silence between us.
I turned toward the door and saw Wendy
standing there with Yale at her side.
Wendy glared at me, her face flushed with jealousy and anger.
Wendy had the worst timing.

I was already annoyed, so I leaned into Caden’s chest for support and said with a sweet smile, “What my husband and I are doing is none of your business, Ms. Crawford.” Then, for added effect, I shot Caden an affectionate glance and asked, “Right, honey?”
To my surprise, Caden’s lips curved into a small smile.
His unexpected cooperation made Wendy’s face turn crimson with rage, while Yale stood awkwardly to the side. “Mr. Holbrook, I’m sorry, I told Ms. Crawford you were busy, but she insisted on coming in.”
Yale’s discomfort nearly made me laugh..
Caden was infamous among the Four Great Packs of Riyemon for his cold demeanor and disdain for having women near him. For Yale to see him so close and affectionate with his fiancee must have been shocking–and he must’ve been terrified of failing to stop Wendy..
Thankfully, Caden simply waved him off impatiently, signaling for him to leave.
Yale let out a sigh of relief and hurried out of the office,
“Wendy, what are you doing here?” Caden loosened his tie as he glanced at Wendy, his expression distant and cold.
Wendy tried to act coy, her voice soft and sugary as she swayed toward him. “Caden, it’s about the partnership between our two packs. We’ve prepared a preliminary proposal, and I wanted to bring it to you personally.”
“Isn’t your brother in charge of the partnership?” Caden asked with a frown.
“My brother was busy today, so he asked me to deliver it instead,” Wendy explained, holding out the proposal with an almost reverent posture.
Caden glanced at me out of the corner of his eye. I rolled my eyes at him, and he immediately said in an icy tone, “Got it. Leave it here. You can go now.”
Wendy, assuming he was talking to me, smirked triumphantly and said, “Did you hear that? Hurry up leave so I can explain the proposal to Caden!”
I smiled sweetly at Wendy, then turned to Caden and asked, “Caden, who were you telling to leave?”
Caden’s gaze turned frosty as he glared at Wendy and snapped, “Wendy, I was talking to you. Get out.”
