Chapter 45 Counterplot

Caden abruptly rose to his feet, his tall frame rigid, his expression icy and detached, with his thin lips pressed into a firm line.
His gaze present it?”
I over me as he said coolly, “You claim to have evidence–why not
He turned to Stella, Sabrina, and the others and issued command, “All of you, return to your seats.”
At Caden’s words, Stella had no choice but to clench her jaw and reluctantly return to her chair at the meeting table.
“What proof do you have to accuse me of tampering with the design plans?” Stella asked, her voice trembling as she drew a deep breath. “Rosaline, let me remind you–spreading false accusations is against the law!” She paused, her tone sharp. “I understand you’ve never thought highly of me, but that doesn’t give you the right to wish my name!”
A soft laugh slipped from me as I looked at the flustered Stella. “Why the rush, Stella? With Mr. Holbrook overseeing this, there’s no reason to panic. If you’re not involved, I trust he won’t accuse you unfairly. However, if you are responsible, I’m confident he won’t spare anyone who jeopardizes the company’s interests!”
I paused deliberately before shifting my attention back to Caden. “Don’t you agree, Mr. Holbrook?”
Caden arched a brow, his expression unreadable, offering no clear response.
Caden’s POV:
Rosaline’s confident stance suggested she truly had something solid to back her claim.
This development was turning out to be far more intriguing than I’d anticipated.
I had initially intended for Yale to dig into the matter, but now it seemed like there was no longer a need.
What baffled me, however, was Stella’s motive.
Though often prideful, Stella had always been diligent and dependable in her work. Why would she risk damaging the company’s interests just to target Rosaline?
Furthermore, as the head of the secretariat, Stella would also be held accountable for poor oversight if anything happened to Rosaline. Such an outcome wouldn’t benefit her in the slightest.
Noticing my silence, Rosaline straightened her posture and cleared her throat. “Back to the main issue- since I’ve pinpointed when the design plans were taken, all we need to do is review the surveillance footage from that timeframe to see who’s responsible.”
Stella’s eyes widened in alarm. “Surveillance? Isn’t it broken?”
“Oh, is the surveillance system broken? It seems Ms. Dixon is quite observant about these minor details,” Rosaline remarked with a mocking smile.
Stella quickly waved her hands, scrambling to explain. only heard about it from someone else.”
“And did you also hear that the surveillance has already been repaired?” Rosaline asked with a sly smile.

“Is that so?” Stella’s voice quivered faintly as she responded.

By now, I had pieced together most of what was happening. I turned to Yale, who stood silently by my side. and issued a curt order. “Check the surveillance footage
“Understood, Alpha,” Yale replied, bowing slightly in deference.
I glanced at Rosaline, inwardly admiring her cunning drategy. She appeared to have the entire situation firmly in her grasp, fully aware of the previous issue with the broken surveillance.
Before long, the footage from the timeframe covering Rosaline’s trip to the airport and her return earlier this morning was retrieved and brought back to the meeting room for review.
“I’ve got it,” Yale said as he handed me the USB drive.
I placed it on the table and said flatly, “Play it.”
“Understood.” Yale followed the instruction, turning on the computer and connecting the projector. Moments later, the surveillance footage stored on the USB began to play.
The video opened with Rosaline sorting through documents, removing the design plans from a folder, and meticulously examining them.
It was unmistakable–Rosaline was holding the design drawings, not blank sheets of paper, at that
moment.
After thoroughly reviewing the drawings, she returned them to the folder, locked it in the drawer, and then left for the airport.
For the rest of the morning, no one approached her desk. It wasn’t until lunchtime that the office emptied out as the staff headed to the cafeteria.
Once the office emptied and the staff headed to the cafeteria, a middle–aged woman in a cleaner’s uniform entered, carrying her tools.
She moved quietly toward Rosaline’s desk, glancing around to ensure she was alone. With swift, deliberate motions, she opened the drawer, removed the design drawings from the folder, and replaced them with a stack of blank paper.
“So, it was the cleaning worker after all, Stella interjected. “Rosaline, you accused me of swapping the design drawings without evidence. Now that the surveillance footage has exposed the truth, it’s clear I had. nothing to do with it. You’ve wrongfully humiliated me in front of everyone. Don’t you think you owe me an apology?”
“Hold on, don’t rush” Rosaline remained composed, gesturing for Yale to pause the video.
“Interesting.” Rosaline remarked coolly, pointing at the cleaner captured in the footage. “We’ve all seen it- Nancy, the cleaning worker, replaced the design drawings. But here’s the question: why? What motive would she have to swap the plans? What could she possibly gain from doing this?”
I motioned for Yale to bring Nancy in,
After making a quick phone call, Yale turned back to me and reported, “Mr. Holbrook, Nancy resigned at one o’clock this afternoon.”

My eyebrows lifted slightly in surprise.
One o’clock?
That was the exact time she had swapped the design drawings.

Resigning immediately after swapping the design plans clearly indicated that this was a premeditated act.

“Track her down. We need to find her immediately,” I odered, my tone cold and resolute.
Rosaline, however, responded with a faint smile. “There’s no need to trouble yourself. I can have Nancy here right away. Once she arrives, everything will be explained.”
“You?” I asked, confusion evident in my voice,
Rosaline calmly picked up her phone and dialed a number. “Nancy, it’s time. Come to the 18th–floor meeting room,” she said smoothly before ending the call.
