Chapter 18
Her ex–boyfriend David was well liked by the entire family, who even regarded him like a prospective son–in–law. Ember had held back information about her and David’s relationship from her family out of
concern that her parents would not be able to accept it and would be harmed.
She was directly exposed by her younger brother Eric, who couldn’t take it any longer and said, “Sis, don’t lie to us. Rose just stopped by. She told us everything between you and David,” Rose’s physical appearance surprised Ember.
She quickly lost color in her face.
Because Rose, the person who was a pot stirrer, was likely to have said a lot of harmful and worthless things in front of her parents for her mother to become so upset.
She said, “My daughter, we have been a burden to you. We are so sorry,” as her mother, Mrs. William, sat up on the bed and wore a dejected expression.
Ember held her sadness and moved closer to help her mum.
“What are you talking about, Mom?”
“How could David not want you? This can only be because our family is poor,” Her mum said.
Ember pressed her cheek into her mother’s to soothe her, saying, “Mom, love is something that cannot be explained clearly. Even if our family has money, if he doesn’t want me, he still won’t.”
“Mom, take a look of your daughter. Isn’t she gorgeous, you see, you see?,”
She purposefully waved her face in Mrs. William’s direction.
However, Mrs. William held her face while displaying her anguish and said, “You’ve lost weight.”
Ember has just lost a lot of weight as a result of David.
She held her mother’s hand and smiled at Mrs. William on the bed, saying, “Mom, you don’t have to worry about your daughter. Your daughter doesn’t rely on anything else but her talent and this beautiful face, and I promise to find you a better son–in–law than David.” She said, “Losing weight is good. I want to lose weight every day, but I couldn’t,”
Ember was unable to stop thinking about Alexander. He ought to be superior than David.
Mrs. William was aware that her daughter was making a forced grin in an effort to calm her anxiety.

“The more you do this, the more I feel sorry for you,”
“Mom, You have to trust that I will undoubtedly meet a man who is 100 times better than him. I’m poor, so i want a man who won’t depend on me. Fortunately, I didn’t marry him, because otherwise he would forsake me in the future,” Ember said sadly.
Ember consoled her parents and younger brother for a while. It wasn’t until they were in a stable mood that she went to the kitchen to make dinner.
She stumbled into the kitchen and knelt down on the floor. Unexpected tears began to fall down her face and couldn’t be stopped.
It has been a very, very long eight years. The other person had already assimilated into her blood and bones throughout these eight years.
How could she not feel uncomfortable as she had to yank him out of her flesh and bones?
Particularly considering that she had given him her precious first night.
Even at night, Ember was unable to fall asleep in her bed because of David and Alexander, the two males who kept popping into her head.
It was two in the morning.
She started to nod off when an unexpectedly urgent phone call woke her awake. When she turned over and picked up the phone from the nightstand, she recognized David as the caller.
So late already.
She set the phone aside while pretending not to see it. However, the phone appeared to ring incessantly. Reluctantly, she picked up the call.
“Hello.”
The other person appeared stunned for a long time before speaking when he suddenly heard her voice.
“Ember, where are you? I want to see you. I miss
you.”
His voice was so familiar. Everything they went through seemed to happened yesterday. Scenes kept flashing in her mind.
Ember gripped the phone firmly in both hands while remaining silent. Two tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Why aren’t you saying anything, Ember? Are you still there?”
“Are you crying, Ember? It’s all my fault; I shouldn’t have, Ember. I’m sorry.”

Chapter 18
David’s sobbing voice broke through the phone after a brief pause.
When Ember overheard his jumbled sobbing, she briefly became panic.
This was the second time she had heard him cry.
The only time before was when they went on an outing, and she accidentally fell down a hill and was seriously injured. At that time, he held her and ran desperately to the hospital. She was unconscious, feeling something pattering on her face like raindrops.
Later, she found out that it was his tears that he was worried about her crying.
This time, the desolation in his crying tightened her heart and make her unable to breathe.
“Ember, I’m downstairs at your house now. Come out and see me, okay? Just see me once.”
Hearing that he was downstairs, Ember, who was gripping the phone tightly, didn’t even have time to put on her shoes. She ran barefoot to the window.
He really was there.
