Chapter 4: I Don’t Have Brothers Like That
I lowered my head, coughing violently, my slender shoulders hunched over as if I would cough my
lungs out.
Brandon’s voice was harsh.“Don’t think you can pretend illness to escape punishment. I told you to take care of Sophie, get her water, and fetch her food. But look at you, now she’s the one, a sick patient, having to get food for you! Not only you didn’t appreciate her kindness, but you even intentionally tripped her. Have you no
conscience?”
I coughed, struggling to speak.“I didn’t push her.
She…”
“Are you saying she tripped herself? That pathetic excuse, it’s fake as hell, isn’t it? Do you admit it. was intentional?”
My eyes stung, but I straightened my back.“No, I didn’t do that..”
A sharp slap landed on my face, burning. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the hurt in my heart. My wolf didn’t response anything. It was so painful that she was numb.

“Brandon, what are you doing?”
Nathan strode in, pulling Brandon away.

“Nathan, she did such a vicious thing to Sophie, a weak omega! And she still refuses to admit it! I don’t have such a cruel and unrepentant sister!”
Sophie stood at the doorway, her hand bandaged, looking pitiful. Tears welled in her eyes. “Brandon, I’ve already said it was my fault. It has nothing to do with Lina.”
“Sophie, you’re just too kind. I need to teach Lina a lesson! So shee doesn’t learn to do bad things!”
As Brandon lunged again and howled to me, Jason Fairmont pulled out a chair with a screech. The aura of his wolf became exceptionally aggressive, forcing Brandon to lower his head and whimper.
I looked up. He leaned against the desk, his expression cold and indifferent. “Are you the student’s family?”
Nathan nodded. “Yes, we’re her brothers.”
“She has a 104°F fever, suspected infection, and needs further test. She also has hypoglycemia and is malnourished!”
Brandon was stunned.“She’s really sick?” He’d thought she was faking it!

Jason’s voice was calm.“You should get your eyes checked. It’s so obvious.” Her pale face and sickly appearance were hard to miss. Did them blind?
/Brandon sputtered, “What do you mean?!”
Jason frowned.“Literally. Even if she’s your adopted sister, you’re responsible for her.”
My eyes flickered with sarcasm at the word ‘adopted‘. My wolf sneered, “HA! THIS IS MY FAMILY!”
Nathan quickly explained,“She’s my biological sister.”
Jason raised an eyebrow.“You’d need a magnifying glass to see that. If you hadn’t said you were her family, I’d have called the Pack Enforcer: commit violence against a minor werewolf!”
Brandon, seeing my swollen cheek, said defensively, “You don’t understand! I was teaching her!”
Nathan was speechless. He’d assumed Lina was healthy, unlike Sophie, who’d fallen ill after the fall. Could he be blamed? Maybe Lina was prolonging her illness to avoid responsibility.
Brandon scoffed.” You know nothing about her! She always fakes illness to avoid responsibility.

This time, she even hurt Sophie. Sophie’s father died saving her. Sometimes I want to see if her heart is as dark as can be!”
My throat burned. I wanted to explain but said nothing. It was pointless; my wolf said to me, THEY WOULDN’T BELIEVE IT.”
Sophie bit her lip.“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been clumsy or tried to get Lina food.”
“It is your fault.” Jason’s eyes were cold.“If you’re sick and getting an IV, you shouldn’t be in class. You shouldn’t inconvenience others; stop acting like you’re the victim.”
My eyes widened. He was defending me? Did he believe me? My eyes stung. Even a stranger understood what my brothers didn’t. Or perhaps they did, but their favoritism for Sophie blinded
them.
| Sophie’s expression froze. Her wolf
quentioned, “WHAT DOES THIS GUY MEAN? HE’S ON HER SIDE! HER SIDE!” Didn’t he see she was sick yet still trying to get Lina food? Why wasn’t he swayed by her kindness and instead speaking up for Lina? It was wrong; it always worked. She couldn’t utter a word, only hanging her head in feigned distress.

Brandon defended her.“Sophie came to class even though she’s sick because the WAT is in less than a hundred days. She can’t miss any classes. She wanted to reconcile with Lina, but she just don’t
appreciate it.”
It was ironic. That morning, Brandon had told me. to take care of Sophie, but hadn’t my actions been hindering my studies? He knew the WAT was coming. It’s just that my exam wasn’t as important as Sophie’s.
Nathan said,“Brandon, take Sophie home to
recover.”
“Nathan!”
“Not even listening to me anymore?”
Brandon fell silent and left with Sophie. The infirmary was quiet again.
Nathan frowned.“Lina, if you don’t want to take care of Sophie, fine. But don’t do anything like this again.”
I kept my head down, my throat hurting. I pulled the blanket over my head. My wolf and I didn’t want to see them.
“Lina, if you keep acting up, I can’t protect you anymore.” Nathan was angry. He pulled the

blanket away.“Come home with me!” He needed to talk to me. Sophie couldn’t keep getting hurt.
Jason stopped Nathan, his gaze cold.“She needs to finish this IV before she can go. You need to wait outside.”
His tone was commanding. I looked at him, his back broad and protective. I noticed a scar on his wrist, ugly and crimson. I had a similar scar on my leg from the car accident. Had he also been in an accident?
Nathan didn’t back down.“I’m her brother; I’ll take her home. We have a house doctor.”
“If you have a doctor at home, why did you let her have a high fever for so long?”
Nathan, seeing my pale face, felt guilty.“She didn’t say she was sick.” And he’d tried to touch her forehead, but she’d dodged him. Could he be blamed? Maybe she’d prolonged her illness to avoid responsibility.
Jason’s voice was sharp.“Sir, if you try to forcibly take her, I will report you for child abuse. And if a child experiences domestic violence, she can apply for personal safety protection. This is the Pack’s rule. The Pack places great importance on young werewolves.”

“I’m her brother, her guardian!”

“But I saw you hit her. There’s security footage as evidence. The Pack Enforcer will make the right /judgment!”
Jason remained calm, unyielding.“She doesn’t want to go with you. You have no right to force her.”
My heart fluttered. I stole a glance at the man standing in front of my brother, his back a wall of protection.
