Chapter 29
Alexander gazed at the distant company building, refraining from further questions. However, as Ember prepared to leave the car, he retrieved a small package from the back seat and handed it to her.
Curiosity filled Ember’s eyes as she examined the handbag he presented. “What’s this?” she inquired.
“I happened to pass by a shop window yesterday and spotted this dress. It struck me as a perfect match for you, so I bought it. I was planning to give it to you as a gift when I saw you again, but fate had other plans this morning. I noticed you were dressed lightly, so it’s for you,” Alexander explained.
In truth, he had overheard Robert mention Ember’s potential discomfort earlier in the morning, which prompted him to purchase the dress in person. However, Alexander chose to present it as a fortuitous
occurrence.
Accepting gifts from men, apart from David Smith, had never been a habit in Ember’s life. Initially, she felt inclined to refuse Alexander’s gesture. Yet, upon considering that he was different from the other men she had encountered, she politely mustered a smile and expressed her gratitude. “Thank you.”
Witnessing Ember personally accepting the clothes, Alexander’s heart finally settled. “Since you’ve
accepted it, let’s put it on before you get cold,” he insisted, not giving her a chance to decline. Diligently, he retrieved the dress from the bag and helped Ember put it on.
As the fabric enveloped her, Ember felt an immediate transformation. The dress elevated her
appearance, making her radiate with newfound confidence. Alexander, observing his beloved in the
exquisite dress, couldn’t help but beam with happiness.
“Do I look good?” Ember asked, meeting Alexander’s eyes, and noticing the astonishment in the gazes of
passersby.
Rather than answering, Alexander guided her towards the car’s rearview mirror, allowing Ember to witness the dress’s effect firsthand. Although limited by the mirror’s view, Ember realized that the dress
truly complemented her. She had only worn it for a moment, yet it had already captivated her heart.
Ember donned a double–faced rust red cashmere coat–Alexander’s sole discovery at the store that
morning. The price tag read 58,000 dollars. For Alexander, this amount was inconsequential. However, in his current guise as a salaryman, it represented nearly a year’s worth of earnings.
Momentarily hesitant to arouse suspicion, he ultimately decided to purchase it, firmly believing that his beloved Ember was worth the price.
The realization hit Ember when she saw the brand and the hefty price tag–58,000 dollars. She was about to protest, hastily removing the dress and returning it to Alexander.

“What are you doing?” he questioned, puzzled, as he held the other the offered
“It’s too expensive. You can take it back,” Ember responded, determined
“Expensive?” Alexander, who had little concern for the cost of clothing, suddenly remembered that high priced garments were beyond their current means
However, he refused to entertain Ember’s request. Steadfastly, he put the dress back on. “I went on a business trip yesterday and closed a major deal. The bonus 1 received from it is enough to purchase this dress for you. The bonus signifies my commitment. Ember, my wife, although this dress is costly, in my eyes, you are priceless.”
Alexander’s words deeply moved Ember. A man who willingly spent money on her demonstrated his regard. A man who willingly spent such a considerable sum displayed his utmost appreciation. Despite their recent marriage, he treated her with such sincerity,
Ember could not resist his genuine sentiment. As she agreed, she swiftly added, “But next time, you are not allowed to give me such an expensive gift. If you truly have wealth, let’s save it instead. We can spend it together in the future.”
Ember’s words took Alexander by surprise, momentarily leaving him stunned.
Her statement conveyed her genuine concern for their small family’s future. It made Alexander realize that Ember was not merely focused on extravagant gifts, but rather on building a life of stability and shared experiences.
