After saying those words, I grabbed the blanket from the bed and walked straight to the couch, lying down.
I felt something in my heart break.
Tears streamed into my mouth, and they tasted bitter.
Caden remained silent, not uttering a word, as if he were dead.
The night grew darker and deeper.
I laid awake the whole night in the blanket.
As the first light of dawn appeared in the sky, I dragged myself out of bed, my eyes heavy with dark circles.
I looked over to see Caden still sitting in his spot, staring blankly out the window.
When he noticed me getting up, he simply nodded at me. His face pale with weariness.
It seemed he hadn’t slept a wink.
The door opened and Richard walked in.
I forced a smile to greet him. Richard looked at me, then at Caden; our exhausted states seemed to bring him some twisted joy.
With an ambiguous smile, Richard teased, “Young ones, take it easy. Moderation is key.”
I was speechless.
Where did this old man’s mind wander off to?
After breakfast, Caden drove me to the office. We didn’t speak a word during the entire drive.
The heartfelt conversation from last night had made it clear to both of us what our relationship truly was.
To be fair, Caden was an exceptional man. As Richard highlighted, Caden possessed talent, handsomeness, capability, and influence; positioning him at the pinnacle of the hierarchy.
But his heart already belonged to another girl.
I didn’t want to be someone else’s substitute.
Caden had his heart set on Tessa.
That meant, without a doubt, that we could never be together.
I had to face the reality.
Maybe I was just waiting for the Moon Goddess to bring me my destined mate.
When I got to the office, I sent a message to Anthony.

“Help me look up someone.”
Anthony quickly responded, “Who do you want me to look up?”
“The girl who was kidnapped with Caden ten years ago, her name is Tessa.”
“Ten years ago. Wilda, do you have any other information?”
“This is all I know. Get back to me as soon as you can.”
Anthony sent a resigned emoji. “Alright, I’ll look into it.”
I spent the rest of the morning thinking about Tessa.
Since Caden seemed so deeply attached to her, I figured I might as well try to help him.
It was right to aid an acquaintance.

I had always trusted Anthony’s abilities. Whenever there was something to do, he always managed to complete it quickly.
But this time, there was no response.
I waited until evening; finally, I couldn’t hold back anymore. I called Anthony. “Have you found anything about the person I asked you to look up?”
On the other end, Anthony’s usual playful tone was gone. His voice was serious, which was rare for him. “Wilda, I couldn’t find anything.”
I froze.
Nothing?
How could that be?
With Anthony’s skills, how could he find nothing?
“I’m sorry, Wilda. I’ve done everything I can, but I really couldn’t find anything.” Anthony’s voice carried a hint of guilt and self–doubt. “Maybe my skills aren’t up to par. You should try it yourself.”
“Alright, I understand.”
I hung up the phone, feeling puzzled.
What had really happened back then?
Who exactly was Tessa?
Why couldn’t Anthony find anything?
Honestly, I had already anticipated this result.
If it were that easy, Caden wouldn’t have spent all these years without finding any trace of Tessa.
But why did this happen?

Chapter 101 Plagiarism
What had happened to Tessa after she fell off the cliff?
Whether she was alive or dead, there should have been some trace left behind.
How could she have vanished without a single clue?
I was left wondering but had no answers. I had no choice but to set the matter aside for now.

In the days that followed, I threw myself into work. I quickly wrapped up the exterior shots for the Ice and Fire jewelry collection.
In just a few days, we would hold a press conference to officially launch the collection.
I was absolutely confident that this collection would be an instant hit, making Eclipse Group the leader in the jewelry industry.
But just two days before the press conference, an unexpected event occurred.
That morning, I arrived early at the office making final preparations for the launch. My phone pinged with news alert caught my attention.
“Heartstone Jewels is about to launch the Love Treasures collection with its main innovation being- Unbound.”
Unbound?
Something felt off, so I opened the article.
It read, “Heartstone Jewels, the top jewelry company in the country has hired Marilyn Schmidt, the chief designer at Montagne to create the ‘Unbound‘ collection. The key feature of this collection is that the jewelry changes color depending on the lighting, making anyone who wears it the center of attention in any environment.”
skimmed through the article and quickly realized that the designs featured were strikingly similar to my own. The most important detail–the color–changing feature in different lighting–was something I had created and used in the Ice and Fire series.
To maintain an air of mystery, Eclipse Group had kept this innovation secret, planning to unveil it at the press conference.
But now, Heartstone Jewels had beaten us to it.
It was clear–Heartstone Jewels had plagiarized my design.
