I held my breath for a moment, steadying my thoughts. “That’s impossible.”
“But if it happened,” he pressed, his gaze sharp, unyielding, “would you stay?”
“There is no if.” I left those words behind and walked out of his office without another glance.
On my way back to my desk, I could hear the steady, relentless pounding of my heart.
What did Caden mean? Did he truly want me to stay?
And what about her? What about Tessa?
“Alpha, is he in love with you?” Freya’s voice stirred in my mind.
“I don’t know. But I do know his heart belongs to someone else.”
“I’ll just say this–if the Moon Goddess never sends us our fated mate, I wouldn’t mind Caden.”
“Freya, he only said that because I look like her. He wants me to be a stand–in.”
Freya fell silent, but in the quiet of my mind, I felt the shadow of her amused smirk.

“There’s a crowd outside the main entrance,” she explained, her voice tight with urgency. “They claim our Ice and Fire jewelry poisoned them. They’re demanding answers—and they’ve brought reporters.”
Poisoned?
A hush fell over the room. People exchanged uncertain glances.
That was impossible. Every step of Ice and Fire’s production had undergone rigorous testing. The materials were safe, the craftsmanship flawless. There was no way our jewelry could harm anyone.
I drew a steady breath and squared my shoulders. “I’ll handle it.”
Wendy’s POV:
Rage coiled in my chest like a serpent ready to strike.
For days now, every news outlet had shown Rosaline beside Caden, standing too close, smiling too much. I snatched a vase from the table and hurled it to the ground. The crash echoed through the room as shards of porcelain scattered across the floor.
Lilian, seated across from me, flinched but quickly composed herself. “Wendy, don’t lose your head,” she said, her tone coaxing. “Rosaline’s just lucky. Every time she should have failed, she slipped through the cracks. But Caden’s interest won’t last forever. He’s only drawn to her because she’s new. Once he grows tired of her, who else would he turn to but you?”
I clenched my jaw. “And how long am I supposed to wait? What does that lowly Omega have that I don’t?”
“Nothing,” Lilian said, her eyes sharp with calculation. “She’s just in the right place at the right time. Think about it–she works with Caden, lives with him. She’s bound to throw herself at him every chance she gets.”
“Then we need to get rid of her,” I muttered. “No—she needs to disappear completely. She never should have been here in the first place.”
I had already tried everything. Subtle sabotage, careful traps–even drugging her. Yet she had evaded every attempt, slipping away unscathed. It was infuriating.
Lilian sat in thoughtful silence, watching me with an unreadable expression. Then, her lips curved into a slow, knowing smile. “Wendy,” she said smoothly, “why don’t you get a job at Eclipse Group?”
I narrowed my eyes. “What are you getting at?”
She leaned forward, her voice low and conspiratorial. “If you work there, you’ll have Rosaline right where you want her–under your watch. She won’t be able to pull any tricks. And more importantly, you’ll be near Caden every single day. Once he sees how much better you are, it won’t take long before he realizes she was never worth his time.”
