Chapter 161 Survival in the Sea
Caden’s POV:
The wound on my arm was throbbing faintly.

I sustained this wound while protecting Rosaline from Annie’s attack a few days ago. Scabs had formed since then, and my arm seemed to be healing well.
However, when the wound was soaked in seawater, it reopened.
Edward let out a growl as if he could relate to my wound. I gave him reassurance, making sure that Rosaline would never find out about this.
At this moment, I was Rosaline’s pillar of strength. I was someone she could lean on. I could not show any signs of weakness.
I didn’t want her to worry about me.
Guided by Edward, we swam forward while Rosaline lay on Edward’s back.
However, the waves began to get violent. We were tossed up and down, which stalled our progress as we could barely move forward.
Rosaline looked at the distant island in front of us and blurted out worriedly, “Caden, it seems like we are not getting any closer to that island….
I noticed that too.
There was a headwind buffeting us.

Although we tried with all of our strength, the waves were pushing us away from the island.
Edward was on the brink of exhaustion as well. I volunteered to take the lead and allowed him to rest for a while.
Rosaline jumped into the water to make things easier for us. She came and held onto me as she saw me transforming back into my human form.
“How about I turn into a wolf and you take a break?” she suggested.
I floated while I pondered for a moment. Then, I replied, “Let’s not move for now and conserve our energy. When the wind subsides, we can continue swimming toward the island.”
Rosaline thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. “It seems like we don’t have a lot of choices.”
We stopped swimming and held each other closely.
We were lucky to have life jackets on us, so even if we didn’t try to keep ourselves afloat, we could just sway with the waves, without worrying about sinking.
Our human forms were much lighter than our wolf forms. We could conserve energy as swayed by the
waves.
The waves continued to surge and crash all around us, accompanied by the howling wind. I put my arms

I comforted her, “Rosie, don’t be afraid. Just hold on a little longer.”
“I’m not afraid of anything with you around,” Rosaline said as she held onto me.
We were drifting further and further away with the waves.
I lost any sense of time, but the waves finally began to calm down.

“Drink some water to replenish your strength,” I produced a bottle of mineral water from my backpack and handed it to Rosaline. “When the wind stops, we will swim toward that island again.”
“Okay.” Rosaline took a few sips of water and then handed me the bottle.
I put the bottle back in my backpack.
Rosaline asked in surprise, “Aren’t you going to drink?”
I shook my head, “I’m not thirsty.”
In the vast ocean, fresh water was indispensable for maintaining life.
Even if we managed to make it to the island, there might not be any fresh water there.
This was why the few bottles of mineral water I had were especially precious now.
I wanted Rosaline to have them as much as possible.
Of course, Rosaline knew what I was thinking. She gently gave me a kiss.
Night finally came. A crescent moon high up in the sky illuminated the waters.
Under the glow of the moonlight, the vast ocean shimmered as waves continued to ripple and break. It was a beautiful harmony of colors.
If we weren’t in mortal danger, this would be so romantic–a swim in the ocean beneath the moonlight.
“Rosie, the sea is calm now. Let’s swim toward the island now,” I looked into the distance and announced, interrupting Rosaline’s thoughts.
We could barely make out the outline of the island from where we were now. It would be bad if we didn’t hurry over before another storm struck us.
“You are right. Time is of the essence,” after some rest and water, Rosaline was feeling better.
However, as she turned around, she accidentally bumped into my injured arm.
“Ouch… “I could not help but let out a soft hiss.
“Caden, what’s wrong?” Rosaline noticed my discomfort and asked worriedly.
The pain in my arm continued to assault me in pangs. I sucked in a deep breath and forced a smile. “I’m fine.”
“But…” Rosaline wanted to know what was bothering me.

Rosaline did not give up just yet as she asked, “Are you sure you’re fine?”
“Yes,” I replied curtly, lifting the corner of my lips. “Let’s not waste any more time. Let’s hurry.”

Rosaline stopped pestering me with her questions. The two of us swam rhythmically toward the island.
Time was ticking.
As we swam toward the island, I scanned my surroundings to see if any boats were passing by.
Unfortunately, it seemed like we were in a remote part of the ocean. There was no sign of any boats around
- us.
As I fixed my gaze on the distant horizon, my thoughts began to drift.
Years ago, my father sailed out to sea on a cruise ship and unfortunately, there was a nasty storm. He ended up at the bottom of the sea.
I vowed to not follow in his footsteps.
We would make it back alive.
The sky began to glow in the distance, revealing the light of dawn. The island unfolded before our eyes.
“Rosaline, we will be there soon.” I kept encouraging Rosaline.
