Chapter 740 No One Cares
Felix remained completely unfazed in the face of Chandler’s hostility. Even with Chandler’s presence exuding cold fury, Felix acted as if it didn’t concern him in the slightest.
Slouched lazily in his wheelchair, Felix tilted his head up and smirked, “Your wife? And you’re asking me? What, can’t you even keep an eye on your own woman?”
Chandler’s eyes narrowed. He grabbed Felix by the collar and yanked him out of the wheelchair.
Philip’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest. “Mr. Powell!”
But Felix didn’t flinch. He stared straight into Chandler’s eyes, his smirk laced with arrogance. “What’s the matter, Chandler?
Did I hit a nerve?”
The tension between them was palpable–two men who could never see eye to eye. Chandler knew Felix wasn’t as simple as he appeared. If Felix had been able to make Meryl disappear without a trace–even slipping past him–then his current frail state was nothing but a façade.
Pinning Felix against the wall, Chandler’s eyes burned with barely restrained fury. “I’m warning you, Felix. I’m still asking nicely. You’d better start talking, or—”
Felix let out a cold laugh. “Or what? Are you gonna beat it out of

me? Think that’ll make me talk?”

His sheer defiance was infuriating. “Hate to break it to you, but I grew up being threatened. It doesn’t work on me. And let’s be real here—it was you who lost her. Why the hell are you questioning me? Where were you when she slipped away?”
He continued, “You had countless chances to stop her, but you –what? Turned a blind eye? Meryl wanted out. She doesn’t love you anymore. Hell, let me spell it out for you–even if you find her, she’s not coming back.”
Felix’s face was a little pale–maybe from exhaustion. But his eyes were sharp, unwavering as they locked onto Chandler.
Chandler had had enough. His fist clenched, then swung, landing a solid punch across Felix’s face. “Stop this bullshit. Where is Meryl?”
Felix’s head snapped to the side, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Yet he simply wiped it away with the back of his hand, looking more amused than anything. Felix clicked his tongue. “Some way to treat the guy who saved your wife and son.”
He had a mocking smirk. “Guess I’m not a woman, huh? Otherwise, you’d actually show some restraint. Tell me, Chandler–if it was Rachel who hid Meryl, would you have hit her like this?”
Chandler’s expression darkened, his patience wearing thin. He ignored the provocation. “You think keeping quiet means I won’t

Felix chuckled, “If you’re so capable, then go find her. Why waste your time on me?” There was a slight weakness in his stance. On any other day, he wouldn’t have taken the hit without retaliating. But today, he let it slide.
And Chandler knew–Felix wasn’t going to give him anything. With a sharp glare, Chandler finally released him.
Felix, caught off guard, staggered and nearly collapsed to the ground. Philip rushed forward just in time, catching him.
Meanwhile, Chandler pulled out a handkerchief, wiping his hands like he had touched something filthy. “If it weren’t for the fact that you saved her life, you wouldn’t live to see tomorrow.”
Felix knelt on one knee, letting out a scoff. “Oh? So that was you going easy on me? Well, thanks so much for your mercy.”
Chandler’s voice was cold. “No matter where you’ve hidden her, legally, she is my wife. She’s mine. You’ll never take her from
me.”
Felix simply smiled without responding. Watching Chandler’s car disappear down the road, Felix shifted his gaze to the security camera outside the Powell Manor’s gate. He had a knowing smirk.
Philip, still fuming, muttered, “Mr. Aniston was way out of line. How could he just hit you like that? Are you hurt?”

Felix got to his feet, brushing it off. “It’s just a punch. Hardly a big deal.” He pressed his fingers against his bruised check.
Philip hesitated. “But just now…”
He thought, “Mr. Powell looks like he is barely hanging on.”
Felix chuckled, “Copy the security footage onto my phone. I need to send it to someone.”
Philip blinked. “Send it to who?”
Felix slung an arm over Philip’s shoulder, grinning. “Who else? My future wife.”
It finally dawned on Philip–Felix had known Chandler would storm over like this. Felix had anticipated the whole thing, gone along with it, and even let himself get roughed up, all for the sake of one thing.
Philip hesitated. “Mr. Powell, are you trying to win Ms. Stone’s sympathy? Isn’t that a little underhanded?” It almost felt like manipulating Meryl’s emotions.
Felix’s expression was unreadable. “You don’t understand. This is called playing the long game.”
He thought, “Besides, Chandler has hit me. I am not faking anything. I am not lying. And if it makes Meryl look at me differently, what is the harm? Is it even a strategy if it is all true?”

Inside the car, Chandler stared down at his hand. Felix had only taken a light beating. If he had really meant to hurt him, Felix wouldn’t be walking away with just a busted lip.
Felix wasn’t wrong–Chandler owed him for saving Meryl’s life. And deep down, some part of him still felt grateful.
Walter noticed the wound on Chandler’s hand. “Should I stop by a pharmacy to get you some medicine?”
Chandler shook his head. In the past, Meryl would have insisted on tending to even the smallest injuries. Now? Even if his hand were broken, she wouldn’t know. His expression darkened as he leaned back, rubbing his temples.
Walter sensed his bad mood and stayed silent.
Chandler lit a cigarette, taking a slow drag. His frustration only deepened. Then, his phone rang. It was Rachel. He glanced at the screen–then declined the call.
A few seconds later, a message came through: [Chandler, I heard Meryl ran away. Is it because of me? I’m so sorry. If you want, I can explain things to her.]
Chandler read the texts but didn’t reply. Rachel waited. Ten minutes passed and there was no response. She knew, deep down, that he wouldn’t text back.
Her fingers tightened around her phone as she sat in the empty hospital room. She was alone again. The loneliness swallowed her whole. She curled up under the covers, staring blankly at the

nightstand. She thought, “No one cares.”

Rachel reached for the small fruit knife beside her. And with a quiet smile, she pressed the blade against her wrist and slashed.
