Chapter 170
Chapter 170
Fiona POV
“I want your daughter but not for the reason’s you might think.”

Alpha Max’s voice is sure and confident as he addresses Regan and her two mates, his head bowing respectfully, Celene on the other hand, looks panicked and continually glances towards the doorway of the study, the only exit that’s available to her. I doubt she’s stupid enough to try and run for it, but there’s no telling with her. Regan takes a deep breath. “Viby we you so desperate to have Celeste? If it’s to do with punishing her…” she began, and Alpha Max norted, taking her back a the slight snub or show of rudeness to her.
“Oh, she’ll be punished alright for what she did,” he said softly, pinning Celste with a gaze and causing her to halt in her tracks. “but that’s now why I want her. I’m a man who always fulfills his responsibilities” he explained tightly as I shot a confused glance at my own mate, wondering where on earth the Alpha was going with this. “I don’t shy away from what is my duty,” he continued, while Regan and the others stared at him dumbfounded, “and as much as I despise what your daughter did, I still have a duty to her.”
He sounds slightly peeved at the thought of it. What was going on in this man’s mind exactly? What was it that had him looking so angry and resigned at the same time? I felt as though asking him would only further his resentment and instead turned to the thoughts that kept whirling inside my mind.
A duty to Celeste. Was I hearing this correctly? What kind of possible duty could he have to her, unless he thought it was only right, he married her simply because they had slept together. I knew a lot of alphas could feel that way if the girl they slept with happened to be a virgin. I feel sorry for the man, and I give the Alpha a sympathetic look, admiring him for trying to do the right thing even though it was not necessary in this case. Celeste was hardly a blushing virgin. She had spread her legs for more men than I could keep count. She was certainly no innocent either. “Alpha Max” I say calmly as my Regan and the two twins don’t speak for a moment, “just because you slept together, it doesn’t mean you are required to take her as your bride or wife. I can assure you,” I added nastily, ignoring Regan’s chiding look, “my sister was no blushing virgin, so you can be rest assured you have no responsibility for her in that regard.”
I deliberately slide my gaze over to my sister, who is incensed at my statement. “Fiona, you bitch,” she hissed. “How dare you speak about me like that,” she cries.
I’m so tired of her playing the victim. She’s a good actress but surely nobody was buying her bullshit any longer.
I give her a cold smile designed to chill her to the core. Regan cleared her throat, ignoring her daughter for the moment. “Do you mean to take her as your wife?” she asked tersely.
To be honest, given the circumstances, it was the best that Celeste could hope for. A shame because Alpha Max seemed like a nice man and deserved far better than to be chained to the likes of my bitch of a sister.
The man laughed. “Not particularly. When I said I had a responsibility to her, I should have been more specific. No, what I have a responsibility for is inside her.”
Inside Celeste? I was ashamed to admit that I was still not comprehending where he was going with this. I was tired and feeling drained from all the drama.
More confounded expressions. My mate, however, had a thoughtful expression on his face. It looked as though he was putting the puzzle pieces together.
“You are admirable, Alpha Max. If it were me, I don’t think that I could do the same thing in your shoes. You’re willing to look past the incident in order to take responsibility for what’s occurred as a result of that night,” he commented wisely.
Ah. Of course. Why hadn’t I seen what was right in front of my eyes? I felt like such an idiot as realization dawned. I look at Celeste sharply. No wonder she was trying to avoid Alpha Max and beg for the position of Alpha. She already knew what she was carrying in her belly, the result of her one–night stand. I feel even more disgusted.
“You’re pregnant,” I said darkly, and she gasped before frantically looking towards Regan, whose face was a mask of

disappointment. It was glorious to behold. Regan had never looked at her daughter this way before. It looked almost as though she was in a constant state of disbelief as she eyed her daughter with a cool glint in her eyes.

“Mother,” she whimpered, “mother, I didn’t mean for it to happen. I was going to…” she trailed off, looking away from us all.
The selfish bitch. I hadn’t thought she could be so cold, but then again, Celeste was like an ice queen when it came to thinking about others. I already knew what she had been planning and it filled me with pure rage.
“Abort the child,” I finished calmly, in spite of my feelins.
It was just like Celeste to only think about herself. I shook my head at her while her father gaped. “You’re so selfish,” I said quietly, staring her directly in the eyes, “trying to get rid of the evidence so that you can’t be forced into something against your will. You should have taken extra precautions that night. This is your karma,” I told her disgustedly.
She looked at me with resentment. I almost laughed; I was enjoying the myriad of expressions that continued to cover her face as the night went on.
“No, you won’t,” Regan said unexpectedly, turning to Alpha Max and raising a brow in question. “If it’s not to take my daughter as your Luna, then what do you want?” she asked him directly.
Alpha Max leaned back in his chair and regarded all of us for a moment. Finally, he chuckled. “The child, of course. It will be my heir. I have no desire to take this…” he glowered at Celeste, who only shrank back from his gaze, “this revolting woman as my bride, let alone my Luna. She’s not trustworthy. I am only wanting the child that is in her belly,” he reiterated.
I didn’t blame him. I would hate the thought of having Celeste as my other half in his shoes, too. No wonder he was so determined to have her return to his pack, though. The child was his main priority. Alphas put a lot of stock into having heirs. She would have known that, of course.
I nodded slowly. I wouldn’t trust Celeste, either, and since she had already acknowledged she was prepared to abort an innocent child to get what she wanted, nobody was looking at her with any sympathy now.
“Then she’s yours.”
Regan’s voice is absolute. Celeste gasps and then begins to cry. My adoptive mother shakes her head, a look of steel on her face. “You decided to drug this man, and you got pregnant. You’re going to deal with the consequences. You are no longer fit to become Alpha of this pack,” she announced gravely.
Xander and Xavier nodded in agreement. “You understand, though, Alpha Max,” Xavier ventured to say with a cool glance at his daughter, “that despite what she’s done, we won’t allow you to abuse her either.”
Alpha Max gave a cold smile. “I understand, and she won’t be so long as she’s willing to abide by the rules of the pack.”
He made it sound non–negotiable. I want to applaud this fearless man. There is silence all around. Celeste is the first to speak, her hands clenched into fists.
“I won’t do it. I won’t agree to go with this man. You can’t make me,” she screeched.
By this time, I was thoroughly fed up, but even I was stunned when Regan slapped her daughter with the palm of her hand, across her face. Celeste gasped, putting a hand to her burning cheek, and then her eyes began to blaze in defiance. We heard the sound of cracking bones, and my father’s opened their mouths, shouting with the use of their alpha tones, “Stop shifting and return back to your normal form.”
She was forced to do so. Realizing she had no other options now, I watched in a state of glee as Celeste sank down to her knees, weeping profusely. Life could not be any sweeter than this moment.
