Chapter 171
Chapter 171
Liam POV
It was bittersweet to see that Fiona’s sister was finally facing the consequences. As she sank to her knees, my mate took hol of my hand and tugged at me. Regan glanced at us sharply. “Where are you going?” she whispered through quivering lips.
I knew we were about to leave. The look on my mate’s face said it all. She had grown tired of the drama, and now all she wanted to do was leave and go back home. I didn’t blame her.
“We’re leaving.” Fiona said comfortably and motioned to Celeste who was still being overdramatic, “this no longer has anything to do with us. She’s paying for her actions and…” she glared at her sister, who looked up with tears streaming dow her eyes, “she’s paid for what she did to Liam. I have no more interest in this. I hope you find an Alpha to take over the pack,” she said somewhat coolly.
We all knew that without an heir, it would be impossible for them to find somebody who would be strong enough to lead, 1 alone become an Alpha for the pack. They had put all their chips into Celeste, and the irony was almost laughable.
“Fiona, wait,” Alpha Xander stepped forward, ignoring his other daughter, his eyes beseeching. “At least spend the night. Allow us to spend time together. You have no idea how much we’ve missed you,” he added with a glance at Regan and the
others.
They nodded in agreement, wary expressions on their faces. Now they had dealt with the matter of Celeste they thought that my mate would be in agreement with them. they still had no idea of who she truly was or how stubborn she could be. She had severed ties with them all and she wanted it to remain that way.
As expected, my mate erupts as I place an arm around her waist. Alpha Max remains silent, a look of intrigue on his face. He makes no move to help Celeste from her position on the floor, instead regarding her with an indecipherable expression on his face. Part of me wonders if he knows what he’s gotten himself into when it comes to such a shallow woman. It’s no wonder he only wants the child that Celeste is carrying. I would do the same if I were in his shoes. Celeste was going to be a pain in the ass to deal with in the meantime but I suspected that despite his anger, Alpha Max was a patient man.
“Since when do you want to spend time with me?” Fiona’s voice is cutting as she faces her ex–family. “You’ve had ample time to visit me in Liam’s pack but chosen not to. Now that Celeste can no longer become Alpha of this pack,” she scoffed, “you suddenly want to spend time with me. I have no desire to spend even another minute in your company,” she scorned.
Alpha Xander looks saddened. There’s an expression of grief on his face. Despite myself, I can’t help but feel bad for the man. It’s evident he’s begun to realize how badly they have all treated my mate. I can’t intervene, though. This has to be Fiona’s decision, and I have to support her. That was my job as her mate.
“That’s not it at all. Yes, we no longer have somebody to take over the running of the pack,” Alpha Xander said sadly, “but I have missed you. You are my daughter..” he trailed off at the look of indignation on her face.
It was the entirely wrong thing to say to somebody who was already on the verge of losing her composure. Bringing my mate back here had only caused painful memories to resurface. I should have insisted we not go to this event. I had thought she was strong but looking at her now, I could only admire the bravery and courage she continued to show in the face of such trials. She was everything I had ever wanted in a Luna
“Your daughter?” she asked coldly. “you’ve always favored Celeste over me. Even when we were small. It’s like you didn’t Want to see me and now I know why. Tell me father. am I anything like my mother?” she taunted, “do you see anybody besides Isabelle when you look at me?”
“You’re nothing like her,” whispered Alpha Xander. “And I know I treated you unfairly but..” he trailed off, not sure what else to say in the face of her rage
“But nothing” she lussed. “I used to pay you would grant me the same amount of affection you gave to Celeste. You doted
berhed her, and gave me nothing but the smallest tidbits of affection is return. You would have been better off simply handing the off s an orphanage abe blurted out as Alia Xander’s face drained of all colour, “because it would have been a hell of a linere ponderade to the libes of all of you a

Ouch. They all flinched at that statement. Even Alpha Max was looking at Regan and the others with condemnation in facial expression.
Oh, there was bitterness in her tone of voice. I could sense the pain as she spoke honestly to all three of them. She wasn’t leaving anything out this time, determined to make them see the true extent of their crimes against her.
“I…I don’t know what to say. I was looking forward to your arrival, Fiona. I couldn’t wait, and the days seemed so long. I realize now that what you were saying came from the heart and that I’ve made a mistake. You were never to blame for your mother’s wrongdoing, and I should never have taken my feelings about her out on an innocent little girl,” he said as Alpha, Xavier and Regan slowly nodded their heads in agreement.
Fiona took a deep breath. “No, you shouldn’t have,e and that makes you even more like monsters. I’m not my mother, I never will be. Part of me has to thank you all because I didn’t turn out Celeste,” she shot a pointed look at the girl still weeping on the floor, “and it was all thanks to you keeping back any love for me or attention. I’m not spoiled like she is. I also found a mate who appreciates me and loves me unconditionally. In retrospect, my life wasn’t perfect, but the life I have now-” She took my hand and squeezed it, causing her parents to look crestfallen, “the life I have now is. So thank you,” she said quietly as Regan and the others began to look pained, “for everything you did. I’m happy now,” she added darkly “and more than I’ve ever been. I don’t need any of you in my life, and when I have my family, you will not be invited to celebrate their birthdays or even their milestones.”
“Fiona,” Regan choked out, “please, let’s talk this out. Let’s discuss this. We’re acknowledging that we’ve made mistakes. We know we did you wrong, but we’re determined to make things right,” she cried, her lower lip trembling. “Just tell us what we have to do. Neither of us wants to lose you. Can’t you see that? I will get on my hands and knees if that makes a difference. We love you,” she added and I saw that my mate was trying desperately to hold her own tears back.
“There is nothing you can do to make things right between us. I wish you all the luck in the world when it comes to Celeste, because you are going to need it. I came today out of obligation, nothing more,” Fiona told them softly,y “and now it’s time to go. Liam,” she turned to me and I nodded, beginning to walk with her towards the doorway.
“Wait,” said Alpha Max unexpectedly, causing us to look at him, a bewildered expression on his face.
“Is it me?” he asked slowly as we stiffened, Regan and the others beginning to draw their shoulders back, a look of alarm on their faces, “but can you smell rogues approaching?”
Screams filled the air, and I glanced at Fiona. Celeste was getting to her feet, cowering in the corner.
“Rogues,” I said and pushed Fiona towards her parents. “Stay here where it’s safe. It sounds as though there’s quite a few of
them”
I ran out the doorway without another word. I heard Fiona’s scream from behind me.
“Liam!“, but I continued to run, without glancing over my shoulder. I needed to keep my mate safe and she was safer in the study then she was outside. I never expected her to take action and ignore my wishes. I should have known better. Fiona was not the type to stay back while others were in trouble.
