I had never seen my mate so angry and out of control. She looked as though she was on the verge of killing her sister, and while I didn’t blame her, I had never expected her to throw down the challenge of taking the Alpha position so that Celeste could never have it. I wondered if she knew what she was doing or what she was getting herself in for. I was not the only one to have concerns as Alpha Xander cleared his throat, looking directly at Fiona for the first time since we had gathered in the study to confront Celeste. Alpha Max was strangely quiet, watching the proceedings without interfering.
“Fiona, do you know what you are saying right now or the consequences of this challenge?” he asked her. “Do you know what could happen if you lose to Celeste? Maybe you should rethink this. For the sake of yourself and your mate,” he added as I stood there calmly.eyeing my mate and knowing that this was something she had to do for herself.
My mate whirled around, staring her father directly in the face, ignoring Celeste, who looked on the verge of panic now that the challenge had been flung down and the gauntlet flung her way.
“I do,” ìny mate said calmly in return to her father’s distress.
“The dangers? You could be killed if Celeste turns out to be the victor. Just because you are sisters doesn’t mean she would grant you mercy. I would hope she would not take the opportunity to kill,” he shot a dark look at Celeste, who remained silent, “but are you prepared to risk your life for this? I thought you wanted nothing to do with this pack?” he added softly.
It was implied that she also had wanted nothing to do with the family, although I already knew that my mate had changed her mind in regards to that, thanks to Regan’s death. She wanted to establish a relationship with her fathers, and I was not about to stand in her way when it came to that.” I didn’t, but now I’ve changed my mind. I’ll be damned if I let Celeste become Alpha after everything she’s done,” my mate declared fiercely.
“What do you propose to do if you win? Your mate is already an Alpha. You cannot run two packs at once. It would mean separating from your mate or rejecting one another. Is that truly what you want? You and Liam love each other. Take it from me, that kind of love only comes once in your life,” his voice choked as he no doubt remembered his own mate.
I waited to see what my mate would say to that. I knew she wouldn’t have made the challenge without some sort of plan in mind. Neither of us would agree to separate, let alone reject each other. There was one other solution. Evidently, Fiona had thought the same way and come to the same conclusion I had. I knew her fathers would not be happy, but given the situation, I felt as though it was the best one. They were in no condition to run the pack at the moment, and I knew that Fiona was going to make an incredible leader beside me.
“I will merge the packs together. I’m not going to leave Liam,” she said hotly, “and I would never entertain that idea. Of course, I love him.”
“You will merge the packs with Liam’s?” Xander spoke incredulously, not having thought of that.
“Yes.”
My mate’s tone was unapologetic. She was not about to let Celeste get her greedy hands on the pack.
I heaved a sigh of relief, but even so, I was still worried for my mate. Was she really prepared to do this? Fight against her own flesh and blood, her half sister? Was she really determined to fight to the death against another Alpha wolf? She was a white wolf, sure, but she wasn’t invincible. There was every chance this could be a bloody battle.
Celeste spoke, her voice wavering. “Father’s, you can’t let her do this. She’ll take away everything we’ve been working for.”
She was a good actress. Even now, she was appealing to her father to save her ass.
My lip curled downward. Even I was not oblivious to how often Celeste played the victim or easily manipulated her fathers. I shook my head at her and turned to the Alpha twins.
“It’s your decision, but I stand by my mate. I trust in her ability. Celeste is pregnant,” I acknowledged as Fiona nodded

tightly, “so if she should accept the challenge, I am willing to ask Fiona not to kill her.”
It was the only acquiesion I would make. Everything else was up to Fiona. I bucked at the idea of killing a pregnant woman but I knew that fiona would feel the same way I did.
“I never had any intention to. But she needs to learn a valuable lesson, and I want to be the one to teach it to her. I don’t need your blessings to do this,” she added to her fathers, “because either way, I’m doing it. I might only be half of your blood, but that doesn’t mean I’m less worthy of the position or the title.”
“I think that this is the best way of action to go forward.”
Alpha Max finally deigned to speak. The Alpha Twins looked at him askance. “I thought you would be concerned about the child?” Alpha Xavier spoke.
He shrugged. “I am, but I also trust Luna Fiona. I am keen to see what happens between two alpha wolves.”
He sounded curious. Almost intrigued by the thought as he glanced between Fiona and Celeste.
Was it my imagination, or had both Alpha twins gone ashen at that reminder? As I looked at the two of them, it suddenly occurred to me what had been staring us right in the eyes the entire time and why Celeste was so reluctant to take part in the challenge.
“You’re not an alpha wolf,” I realized, turning to Celeste, “are you?” I demanded.
I wanted the truth, and I wanted to hear it from her own lips.
For a full–blooded Alpha lineage wolf, it was surprising. She had two fathers that were Alphas, and her mother had been a white wolf. Celeste gulped. Fiona looked stunned. She hadn’t put the pieces together. This changed everything when it came. to the challenge. An Alpha against an ordinary wolf would easily defeat the latter.
“So, what if I’m not. It doesn’t prevent me from taking the title of Alpha,” Celeste scoffed, just as arrogant as her usual self. couldn’t believe how naive she was. How stupid she was. Did she really think she stood a chance against a white wolf?
“You might as well forfeit the challenge,” I said, glaring at her, “because you can’t possibly defeat my mate’s white wolf. You’re too weak. You never should have been considered for the title of Alpha once it was determined you didn’t even have one.”
What in the world had the Alpha twins been thinking? I couldn’t believe it. Surely, the pack knew what kind of wolf Celeste
was.
I was surprised at how the Alpha twins had tried to hide it. Were they embarrassed? Fiona was only a half blood Dominion, and yet she had gained a white wolf. Did that anger them? I didn’t care. My temper was beginning to fray. At this rate, the position of Alpha of the pack should rightfully be given to my mate, and this ridiculous charade should end.
Celeste lost her temper. “I am just as strong as Fiona, and I’ll prove it to you all. I deserve to be Alpha of the pack not this little bitch,” she shouted out, her eyes beginning to darken as she faced her half sister who remained motionless.
“I accept your challenge, Fiona. If you want a fight, then I’ll give you one, by god. Be prepared to lose,” she sneered, “and when you do, you’ll be humiliated just like all the other times I’ve bested you.”
“Very well, then let’s gather on the grounds. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is, Celeste. I’m not afraid of you anymore. You’re the one who’s about to be humiliated,” my mate countered in response, “and I hope you know that you’re
eyes fixated about to lose, and when you do, you will leave this pack with Alpha Max. do you understand?” she said icily, her
on her half sister.
It looked as though there was going to be a battle between the sisters after all.
“When you lose Fiona you’ll leave this pack and never return.”
