Chapter 12
“I regret it. Please don’t leave, Evelynn!”
I really don’t understand. A man’s heart changes so quickly.
One moment, he’s all lovey–dovey with Rosalie, and the next, he’s desperately trying to hold
onto me.
Which version of him is the real one?
But it no longer matters.
I raised my leg and kicked him hard.
“Let me go, or don’t blame me for calling the police!”
He still wouldn’t let go, until I casually threw out the words.
“I don’t want to share a bed with a man who once shoved a knife into my
Nico didn’t understand, but he released me.
heart.”
I opened the door and left the Turner house, leaving the cage that had trapped me for the
first half of my life.
Over the years, I’d saved up some money. Though it wasn’t much, it was enough to get by.
I heard that Rosalie, because of that knife wound, had completely lost her ability to have
children, and she’d gone completely mad.
A few weeks later, Nico’s father found me.
He was a good man, but he didn’t understand what kind of person his son really was. The old man had aged quite a bit and begged me to come back and see Nico.
“Please, daughter–in–law… Nico is spoiled by me, and he’s made many mistakes. But… could
you please come see him?”
“Our family was lucky to have met you.”
I sighed, thinking it was probably a karmic bond.
I couldn’t say anything harsh to the old man, so I agreed to go back to the Turner house and
take a look.
Nico was lying unconscious, looking haggard and disheveled, curled up on the bed.
Suddenly, he woke up and, seeing me in the doorway, called out immediately.
Evelynn, you’re back?! I knew you’d come back!”
His eyes were sunken, and he looked completely deranged.
“I dreamed of something strange. I dreamed I stabbed you and threw you into the sea… but
it’s all fake, right?”
Was he dreaming about his past life?
酒
I coldly watched him ramble on, shaking my head.
“Unfortunately, it’s all true.”
“Nico, I came back to life to escape this pain. If you have any conscience left, let me go.”
His gaze grew dazed, mixed with regret.
“Let you go?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his expression slowly darken as he fell silent.
This time, when I left, he didn’t try to stop me.
When the butler escorted me out, I vaguely heard the servants shouting inside.
“Something’s wrong!? The young master jumped out of the window!”
I didn’t look back, letting the past fade with the wind.
It was much later that I learned Nico had been crippled from the fall and had gone insane. After Turner’s family sent him to the countryside to recover, he jumped off a cliff and died on the spot.
When I heard the news, I just smiled faintly.
It was too easy for him to die.
