For the first time since left, it is Stephan that contacts me and my heart sinks. “Please tell me my Father is fine.” I say as I pick up the phone.
“Your Father is fine.” And I let out a sigh of relief and before I can help myself I blurt out “Jordan?”
“No, nothing going on with him either, but there is and her reason I called.” He tells me about the intel and his digging in the archives and I tell him that I will help him in any way that I can.
Settling down for a rest in a cave I discovered, I go over everything Stephan told me. He asked me to make a small detour on my way to the Crystal White Pack, it would take me off course almost a day, but I knew he needed the answers I might be able to
find.
So I close my eyes and drift off to sleep. After an hour I wake up and head out again. I walk in my human- form and after dinner I hand over control to Evie.
She knows where we have to go and with her speed we will be there by morning. Evie runs through the forest, feeling in her element as she picks up even more speed.
Everyone always wondered why I was able to run this fast. I couldn’t answer that question, I was just glad I could. When Jordan was still my trainer, he would always make me chase him. It took a year, but eventually I was able to catch him.
Evie feels content with the wind running through her fur. She gives me back control about ten minutes before we reach our destination.
I can feel where the Pack’s territory start and Evie and I keep close taps on our surroundings. As I walk further onto the territory, we can see the slaughter that took place here and a shiver runs down my spine.
The Council had cleared the grounds of all the bodies, but you could still see the blood stance. As we get closer to the Pack–house, we see more ground covered with blood and it shows that a lot lost their lives here.
But it is not as much blood as I had expected. Stephan had told me that this was a rather large Pack and there were no survivors. I wonder how it is possible that the amount of blood did not add up and I decide to keep this information to myself for the time being.
Walking around the feeling that something is off gets bigger and bigger. We head to our next destination. hoping that we will find answers there.
Just across the Pack–border I find a place to sleep and after some breakfast and a few hours of sleep I start walking again.
In the evening Evie takes over again and gets us to our next destination before the sun comes up.
I rest for a while and every time I am about to drift off to sleep, I see Jordan’s face.
After first light I make my way on to the Pack’s territory The same feeling comes back as I make my way over to the Pack–house, because again the amount of blood doesn’t compare to the number of members This Pack had.

“Let’s look at what we can see. He have seen evidence in both racks of a lot of mated couples and what is the best way to get to a mated male?” Evie is right, a mated male would do anything for his Mate or pup.
“Okay, let’s say they captured the mated females to subdue the males. Then w/
did the Council not figure this out.” Evie and I walk around some more and that is when I see something strange.
The flowerbed in front of me shows signs of indentations as if something had crushed the flowers down. “Bodies, Dead bodies. Shit, I know what happened. They threw down dead bodies.”
I am puzzled and Evie has to explain herself to me. She asks me to smell the air around the flowerbed and then the air on the back porch of the cottage to my left
After I do as she asks I tell her the air around the flowerbed smells stale and that is when I realize what she means. They dumped bodies here that had been dead already, that way it looked as if everyone was killed during the attack.
I grab my phone and call Stephan to fill him in. He wonders why they would go through all that trouble, just to make it look like there were no survivors.
And we talk about my assumption, was I correct in thinking they only took mated couples.
After discussing it for a few more minutes, we come to the conclusion that we don’t have an answer to that question. yet. He wishes me luck before he disconnects the call.
Evie and I continue our way towards the Crystal White Pack and we both are looking forward to meeting Beta Matthew. Both of us are hoping he remembers the name of his date and maybe he even knows what happened to her.
It will take us until tomorrow night to reach the Pack, but it doesn’t bother us one bit. Inhaling the fresh air, now that we have left the Pack’s territory, a smile spreads across my face and I start humming a song my Father always sang to us.
Thinking about that we both start to laugh, because my Father couldn’t sing at all. But we loved him for trying. And on occasion he would overdo it, just to annoy the hell out of me.
I keep humming as we continue our search for a place to sleep, with a smile on my face.
