Chapter 341 Make A Run 

Mateja’s p.o.v. 

I notice it the moment Lucas steps inside the Mansion, it is always the same and a part of me still hates this feeling, while the other part has gotten used to it. 

Echo growls softly in my head, but is careful enough to stay hidden in the back of my head. We don’t want Lucas to find out that I am not as helpless as he seems to think. 

“Where the fuck is he?” I hear Lucas ask Mom and I know who he is talking about. 

“I don’t know. The last thing he sent me was a message that said that he was going to get Giselle, but that was the last thing I heard of him. You can check my phone.” Mom answers him. 

The air in the mansion is filled with Lucas‘ anger and I know he will take it out on Mom. There is nothing I can do about it, Lucas made sure that we were both weakened over the years. 

I rush down the stairs the moment the door slams shut behind Lucas, Mom doesn’t look as bad as usual and I quickly help her to her feet. I tend to her wounds, before I prepare us something to eat and without saying a word we both sit down at the kitchen island. 

Lucas makes sure we have the bare minimum to survive, he wants to keep us alive and I still haven’t figured out why. 

With every passing day I feel Echo getting weaker and angrier, but for now we have to bide our time. 

There will come a day that I walk out of here and when that day arrives, Lucas better run and hide. If he gets in my way on that day, I will not hesitate to kill him and show him what I truly am. 

I know Mom’s story from the start to the present, she found her fated Mate on the Full Moon after she turned nineteen and left her Pack with him. She never looked back, because her family had mistreated her for years. 

Mom doubts her family would have accepted Dad as her Mate, but she doesn’t care about that anymore. We were a happy family for many years and then tragedy struck, Dad was killed during an attack from a neighboring Pack. 

Two years after his death Mom took a chosen Mate and a year later we welcomed Lucas into our family, but Mom’s happiness didn’t last long. I scared her chosen Mate to death when I shifted for the first time in front of him and he left after rejecting Mom. 

Mom and I decided to never tell anyone the truth about why Lucas‘ Father left and we haven’t even told Lucas the truth. Mom just told him that he couldn’t handle a newborn and a teenager at the same time, Lucas never asked about his Father again. 

“What are you doing here, Jack?” I hear Mom ask and I look over my shoulder at the male that is my Brother’s Mate. 

I doubt either of them knows that I am aware of the bond between them, but I don’t care if they do. Jack is an asshole, but he treats us better than Lucas does. 

“I heard that Lucas was a bit angry today, so I decided to check up on the two of you. I also brought some groceries, if there is anything else you need just let me know.” Jack says and I hand him the list Mom and I 

made.

There isn’t much on there, but the items on the list will help Echo to get stronger. I just hope that he doesn’t show the list to Lucas, because Lucas might just understand what I am trying to do. 

“I will have it delivered tomorrow morning, I’ll check back in about a week from today.” Jack says before he walks out of the kitchen. 

Mom shakes her head while she finishes her food and starts clearing the table after that. 

“Do they really think that we don’t know that they are Mates? Lucas is my Son, but sometimes I wonder where his brain cells went.” Mom mumbles. 

For outsiders it is difficult to detect a Mate–bond if someone tries to hide it, but for family members it is easy to detect. Your scent changes after you get marked and a family member can always smell the difference. 

We haven’t been able to figure out why they try to hide it or why Lucas doesn’t want anyone to talk to Mom. I doubt anyone knows about my existence, Mom kept me away from her second chance Mate and I didn’t want to risk getting exposed. 

All I know is that Lucas forced Mom into hiding after my Stepsister became the Queen, Mom told me that something happened between Lucas and June, even though she didn’t have any details for me. 

Echo is pacing around in my head, she is making me dizzy and I ask her what the hell is wrong with her. 

“We are being watched and I am not talking about Lucas‘ guard dogs.” Echo growls and I close my eyes to concentrate on my surroundings, another thing I have been hiding from Lucas. 

I slowly allow my senses to spread, pinpointing every guard dog that Lucas put in place and it isn’t until I have gone passed the perimeter of the mansion’s grounds that I sense them. 

Two Wolves and three Lycans are stationed somewhere in the forest behind the mansion, from their position they can see the back of the house and the right side of the house. 

This means that they know that at least two people are living in this house and not like Lucas tries to make everyone believe, one person. If they aren’t some of Lucas‘ men that is. 

If Lucas is unaware of their presence, then another question pops into mind. Who would want to keep an eye on Mom and why? 

“Something wrong, Dear?” Mom asks and I slowly shake my head. I am not going to tell her about the other guard dogs, she might tell Lucas or Jack and ruin my chance of escaping this hellhole. 

Mom gave up on trying to get away from Lucas years ago and against my better judgment I stayed with her, hoping that I could convince her to run away with me. 

If I want a life of my own, I have to escape myself and leave Mom behind. It is time to choose me and make a run for it.
