Chapter 8
She looked defeated, but still tried to corner me. Rowan blocked her path. “What are you doing here? You should be thankful I haven’t thrown you out yet. Don’t push your luck.”
Seeing she couldn’t get close, Nora yelled from the other side of the room, “Margaret! You’re about to marry Lawrence, so why are you still hanging onto Brian? Aren’t you afraid he’ll find out you’re playing both sides and dump you?”
Lawrence, standing behind me, was adjusting a stunning meteorite necklace around my neck, casting a disdainful glance at Nora. “Has she completely lost it?”
Nora shoved past Rowan and stormed toward us. “Lawrence, don’t be fooled! She’s playing the victim, but she still wants to get back with Brian. Be careful, or she’ll make a fool of you!”
After fastening the necklace, Lawrence smiled, pleased. “Perfect.” He admired the necklace on me, then turned to Nora. “Take your little act somewhere else. Unlike that fool Brian, I’m not going to be tricked by crocodile tears.”
Tears welled up in Nora’s eyes as she glared at me, her voice full of venom. “You must be so happy. You won. Brian won’t even look at me anymore. Are you satisfied?”
I smiled brightly. “If he keeps clinging to you, that’s his problem. Who would want someone so tainted? If you want him, you can have him.”
Her frustration only grew, and just then, Brian barged into the room. The staff tried to stop him, but he ignored them, his eyes fixed on me. “Margaret, don’t listen to her lies! I have nothing to do with her anymore. The child isn’t mine!”
The room fell completely silent. No one knew Nora was pregnant.
Nora grabbed his shirt in a frenzy. “How can you say that? It’s your child! Are you going to let our child be born without a father?”
Brian’s eyes were wild as he turned to me. “Margaret, I’m serious. I’ve already booked the wedding venue, and the dress is ready. If you just show up, you’ll be the happiest bride. I even brought the moonstone necklace back. It’s always been yours.”
I narrowed my eyes, coldly observing him. “Brian, I’m about to get married. Stop interfering in my life. I’m happy with Lawrence. That wedding you’ve planned, it’s yours, not mine.”

“We’re getting married next month. You’re not invited. In fact, I never want his gaze, my tone icy. “Brian, what you’ve lost won’t wait for you to turn back.”
Brian was dragged out, his face ashen. The next day, Nora’s pregnancy spread like wildfire.
Nora’s family stormed into Brian’s house, demanding he take responsibility. His parents refused to yield easily. “Before we agree to anything, we need a paternity test. If the child is Brian’s, they’ll get married. If not, don’t even think about scheming against our son.”
The test confirmed Brian was the father. His family had no choice but to accept the situation.
There were no engagement gifts, no engagement ceremony, no public declaration. Brian and Nora simply went to the Mate registry office and signed their marriage papers.
