Chapter 2
Jennifer soon began dropping Lucas off at school, making Ember’s life a little easier.
A few days later, Joseph began joining them. From then on, they left together every day.
Ember sat at the table, eating her bread, her eyes watching as Jennifer and Joseph held Lucas’s hand, getting into the car.
Jennifer sat in the passenger seat, smiling and chatting with Joseph, while Lucas sat in the back, swinging his legs and looking happy. Ember’s heart sank as she watched them drive off.
Soon, Ember’s assistant Harris sent her a surveillance video showing Joseph not dropping Lucas off at school, but leaving him and Jennifer at a large shopping mall.
Jennifer was shopping for luxury items–clothes and bags–while Lucas sat alone in the children’s amusement park, eating fried food and drinking soda.
Ember felt a wave of anger as she watched. Lucas had been in a delicate health condition as a child and had to maintain a light diet.
Ember had always been strict about his nutrition. The sight of him alone, eating unhealthy food, was a slap to her face.
Later, she called Lucas’s teacher, Teacher Zhang, who informed her that Lucas had taken a few days off from school.
It was Joseph who had called, claiming that Lucas’s maternal grandmother had passed away.
“We didn’t dare verify it with you, Mrs. William,” Teacher Zhang said.
Joseph was lying, and Ember couldn’t help but feel betrayed.
Her parents had always disapproved of Joseph, the “poor boy.”
They had opposed her marriage to him from the start, calling him unworthy.
Even for New Year’s dinners, they would always choose a restaurant suitable for his status.
If it hadn’t been for Lucas, they would have ignored him completely.
Now that Joseph was successful, he looked down on her parents.
“My mother is still alive, so he must have gotten it wrong. It’s his mother who passed away.

Please don’t tell Lucas’s father about this for now,” Ember had instructed Teacher Zhang.
Jennifer soon gave the luxury items to a woman.
Ember recognized the woman–Amy Brooks, her neighbor.
The man beside Amy wasn’t her husband, David Hayes, but a young, strong man.
It was no surprise now.
Jennifer had teamed up with Amy to frame Ember for an affair with her neighbor’s husband.
Amy’s plan was to divorce him and claim his assets, while Jennifer played her role as the mistress.
After Amy and the young man had separated, they went to a hotel, and Ember sent the room number to her husband.
If Amy thought she was about to watch a good show, it wasn’t going to be the one she expected.
Ember sipped her tea, watching Jennifer anxiously making phone calls outside. She was likely calling Amy to ensure that the plan went smoothly.
From what Ember knew, David was an international boxing champion.
At this point, Amy was probably getting beaten.
Ember put on a beautiful gown, a rare occasion for her to dress up.
“Husband, aren’t we leaving? What are we waiting for?”
Joseph glanced at Jennifer quickly, then smiled at Ember. “Okay, let’s go.”
Jennifer forced a smile, “Ember, I have something to take care of. I’ll come later.”
They were so obvious, Ember thought. Was she blind before?
Ember got into the car, and noticed the front passenger seat was pushed back far.
“Husband, has anyone sat in the front seat?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Joseph turned pale.
“Maybe Lucas was sitting there earlier.”
Lucas, sitting in the backseat playing a game, lied without batting an eye. “I just laid down to sleep
earlier.”

Chapter 2
What he didn’t know was that Ember had already removed the memory card from the car.
Joseph and Jennifer had exchanged words in the front passenger seat while Lucas was oblivious in the
back.
Joseph had booked a high–end banquet hall, with all the walls covered in wedding photos and family portraits.
The scene was set for the show Joseph had prepared.
