Chapter 11
A month later, the Gamma warriors found Sandy in my old rental He had become gaunt, his eyes
hollow and dark from lack of sleep, his cheeks shadowed by unkempt stubble. His clothes hung loosely from his body as he sat in the same spot where I had once stayed, numb and lifeless.
As the Gamma warriors raised their handcuffs, ready to arrest him, Sandy didn’t resist. Without
hesitation, he opened the balcony window and jumped from the eighteenth floor.
At that moment, my wolf howled, a mournful cry that reverberated through my soul. I could feel it within me–the loss, the hopelessness. The connection between us had shattered, and the wolf, too,
felt the break. My soul began to fade, its light dimming as I accepted my own end.
The memories of my twenty–three years of life flashed before me like a reel of film, too fast to capture but too slow to escape. The fire that had taken me, the flames that had consumed everything… I welcomed it.
Sandy, if there’s a next life, I hope we never cross paths again.
I should have faded with him.
But instead of death’s embrace, a soft, silvery glow surrounded me.
A voice, ancient and soothing, echoed through the void.
“Your suffering was undeserved. Burned alive in a fire that was never meant for you.
I floated weightlessly, neither alive nor dead, as a luminous figure stepped forward–her form
bathed in the celestial light of the moon.
She was an exact duplicate of the Moon Goddess sculpture I saw in the square.
“You deserve another chance.“
Then, the warmth of life rushed through me.
My eyes snapped open and Oliver was beside me, smiling as he leaned into my arms and said, “Mommy, how are you?”
