In a daze, I caught a glimpse of a news notification. It was from the pack, praising their successful rescue of a suicidal a single she wolf without a mate, one who had battled mental disease for yeme My lips curled into a bitter smile as I laughed at the irony.
If memory served me right, this was Lily’s ninety–ninth depression episode. That same excuse, that same endless cycle.
A month ago, Sandy and I had fought. It was the day of our mating ceremony.
On my left was my mother and father, who had the entire pack suspended to attend the mating ritual. On my right, it was Sandy’s parents, their faces full of provocation. They couldn’t hide their disapproval, and every glance they threw my way made my skin crawl.
Even if I was the daughter of the pack’s Alpha and Sandy’s family were just strays accepted into the pack.
The table was filled with dishes I loved. The Omega maid brought out a cake with the mark of our bond hidden inside. The pack’s oldest and most respected elder, with a stack of carefully written vows in his hands, awkwardly raised the microphone and waited for the other protagonist of the mating ritual to arrive.
But Sandy never showed up.
I don’t know exactly what urgent things he must do now. Even the alpha of the wolf pack, my father, managed to set aside time. He’s that busy for just being a member of a rescue team?

Two hours later, the ceremony was forced to disperse. I received a cold, detached apology from Sandy through a text: Sorry, urgent mission. I’ll come back as soon as I’m done.
As a result, he stayed out all night.
At 2 a.m., Lily posted a message on the wolf pack’s social media platforms: “Every time I’m in the throes of an illness, I just want to leave this world. Thankfully, you’re always here, keeping me
tethered.”
The post was accompanied by a photo–a pair of hands entwined, fingers locked in an almost desperate embrace. The scar across the back of the hand was unmistakable, glaring in its sharp
contrast to the smooth skin.
The next evening, Sandy stumbled home, looking completely drained.
I calmly spoke about our five years together, about the blurred lines between his work and his… connection with Lily.
He remained silent, his fingers dancing over his phone, occasionally looking down at messages that
seemed more urgent than our conversation.
I couldn’t stop staring at the scar on his hand. Without thinking, I glanced at his phone screen, and the name on the chat was no longer just “Lily.” It now read: “Sweet tiny moon”
I could feel the pressure in my chest mounting. It was as if my heart was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Just as I was about to explode with anger, Sandy’s voice cut through the air, icy and dismissive. “Don’t pry into my privacy! You’re the Alpha’s daughter, don’t you understand that
etiquette?”
In that moment, everything fell apart.
I’m the Alpha’s daughter, so I have to put up with that rogue wolf girl stealing my mate?
The urge to retaliate, to break free from the suffocating chains of his betrayal, surged through me. I grabbed my suitcase and left the lair full of our memories.
The Omega liaison’s voice pulled me back from the abyss of my thoughts. She tried to reass
“Please stay hopeful. The Gamma warriors will reach you in time, I promise!”
The walls around me felt as though they were closing in.
I glanced at the clock, and my heart sank. Five minutes had already passed. The window for escape
