After I Torched 7

After I Torched 7

Chapter

With Sandy and his team joining, the flames were quickly extinguished. Elder of the pack confirmed that the fire had originated the interior of the lair

But something didn’t add up. Since moving here, I had relied on healthy fast food, never even using any fire

Sandy’s eyes scanned the small onebedroom den. At the entrance, a long streak of blood led from the door across the living room, all the way to the balcony window. It was the mark of my final struggles, my attempt to survive

A pink suitcase lay open on the bedroom floor, charred marks marring its surface. The inside was filled with shredded fabriclikely the cute dresses of a young girl

Just as Sandy stepped forward to examine the suitcase, Lily’s sharp scream startled him. He rushed out of the bedroom and found Lily standing in a pool of blood, her feet trembling. He immediately yanked her away from the balcony

What

You doing here?he barked. I told you to wait!”

Lily, tears in her eyes, whimpered, I just wanted to help! I wanted to see if there’s anything I can

do!”

Beside them, Bob couldn’t hold back his irritation

Help? You want to help by jumping off the balcony too? Is that it?he spat, pointing to the open window. The girl who died next to you fought with every ounce of her being to survive. She

deserved a chance to live!”

He was seething with anger, his voice full of contempt. Every time you waste our time with your antics, someone else dies. Someone innocent who could have been saved. The ones who really want to die don’t make a spectacle of it. They don’t scream for attention like you do!”

He stepped toward the window, his words cutting through the air. If you’re so eager to die, why don’t you take the plunge? I won’t stop you.”

Sandy stood between them, shielding Lily with his body. Bob, enough! Life doesn’t have a hierarchy of worth. You know damn well that no one could have predicted a fire like this! His tone was firm, but the irritation in his eyes was clear

One of the female team members, her position just below Sandy’s, rolled her eyes at the situation. Sandy, Lily is an adult. If she has issues, she should see a doctor. It’s not our job to babysit her. If you’re so attached to her, that’s your problem, not ours.”

She raised an eyebrow, making her thoughts known. If I had known we were coming to save her, I never would have come.”

The rest of the team murmured in agreement. It became clear to me that Sandy had only told them that it was an urgent mission, rallying everyone to help. He hadn’t mentioned the specificsthe real reason why they were all here. The members of the pack, always loyal and dutiful, had followed without question, bringing their best rescue equipment, only to find themselves responding to yet another of Lily’s cries for help

Lily was once again in a bad mood from remembering again her life as a vagabond, and in desperation she tried to jump off the balcony. Halfway through the jump, she regrets it and her body

gets stuck in the railing, unable to move

Her call for help had gone straight to Sandy, who, in his desperate need to save her, had mobilized

the entire team

What Sandy didn’t understand was that this wasn’t about saving someone in true danger. It was about his overwhelming need to feel needed, to be her hero. This wasn’t the first time Lily had attempted to take her own life. She had tried cutting her wrists, overdosing on sleeping pills, and even inhaling charcoal. Each time, when the pain became too much, she would regret it

But Sandy never saw through the act. He never once treated her like the burden she was becoming to the pack, to him

Perhaps the sight of this fragile girl reminds him of his own miserable life when he was once a rogue wolf, and he wants to redeem her

The female team member, now stepping forward, began to take charge of the scene, shoving Sandy aside to manage the operation. Sandy, realizing the anger of his team, tried to maintain some semblance of control, but it was clear that his position was weakening. His face flushed with frustration as he muttered, I reported everything to Wolf Pack Alpha Council. There’s no need for

this attitude.”

The rest of the team ignored him, focusing on the task at hand

Sandy’s words fell on deaf ears. In the midst of it all, Sandy’s eyes flickered toward Lily, who was now standing innocently, looking up at him with that same sweet smile, as if nothing had happened

Lily, I’m taking you home,he said coldly, his frustration boiling over

As they left, Lily stepped on the halfbroken bracelet that lay on the floor, twisting it beneath her heel. She gave a malicious smile, not bothering to look back as she crushed it

Sandy, you know I can’t stay home alone. My thoughts will get the best of the Can’t you stay with

me for a little longer?”

Sandy forced a smile,in agreement

If he and his wolf had stayed in the room a little longer, they would have noticed my scent lingering

in the room

Unfortunately, he left without looking back, taking Lily with him
