Chapter 8:
If souls could feel, then mine would be shattered into a thousand pieces.
Sandy had allowed Lily to stay in our new den.
This nest was a gift to us from my Alpha father. He wanted us to breed puppies as soon as possible after we completed our mating ritual. But now….. there is no chance.
I didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.
He didn’t touch a single strand of Lily’s hair, choosing instead to sleep fully clothed on the couch. Yet,
he had her sleep in the master bedroom. The very bed that belonged to the mistress of this den, the
one I had shared with him.
We had been together for five years, talking about binding bond, about building a future. And yet,
here I was, watching as a naive, inexperienced girl defeated me without even realizing it.
I didn’t know whether to hate myself for being blind or hate Sandy for straying from me. But what
hurt the most wasn’t his betrayal–it was the fact that he was a Gamma Warrior, a protector,
someone who should have been my salvation when I called for help. I had been in a dangerous
situation, desperate for rescue, yet I was left to wither while he chose to play hero to someone else.
Sandy lay on the couch, staring blankly at his phone, scrolling through messages that I had sent but
he never answered. The contact name displayed was mine.
I didn’t need to know what he was writing. Apologies, regret–it didn’t matter anymore. I was
already gone.
Sandy’s wolf seemed to sense a break in the bond with my wolf, and he was upset. Sandy was impatient for him to be quieter.
That night, Sandy awoke with a start, sweat clinging to his skin, the nightmare still haunting him. He
rushed into the master bedroom without thinking, waking Lily from her deep sleep. She looked at him in surprise, her face lighting up with joy at his sudden presence.
“You’re here to stay with me?” she asked, her voice sweet and innocent. “I’ve been waiting for you all
night.”
Sandy didn’t hear her. His mind was elsewhere, frantically rifling through my closet.

Chapter 8:
He found my jewelry box hidden at the back of the drawer, upending it onto the floor. He picked up each bracelet one by one comparing them to his own wrist.
“This isn’t it… No, not this one either. Where did it go?” Sandy muttered, his frustration growing as the jewelry scattered across the floor.
Cosmetics spilled in every direction, the chaos mirroring his inner turmoil. His eyes frantically searched through the drawers, then moved to the closet.
Lily, still groggy and frightened by the commotion, cried out, rushing to him, “Don’t scare me, what’s wrong?”
Sandy’s eyes, though filled with panic, cleared as he glanced around at the mess he had caused. His hands hung limply at his sides as he saw Lily’s concern.
“It’s nothing, Grace,” he said hoarsely, his voice unsteady. “I had a nightmare. I thought you…”
Both of them froze. The weight of his words hung in the air, and a silence enveloped them.
Sandy pulled away from Lily’s embrace, gently adjusting her open nightgown, his voice softening. “Sorry for waking you. Go back to sleep, I’ll stay in the living room.”
Lily opened her mouth to protest, but was immediately silenced by the door slamming behind him. Sandy collapsed onto the couch, his hands tangled in his hair, the weight of everything pressing down on him.
Finally, he picked up his phone again, his fingers dancing across the screen. He typed, deleted, typed again. The words finally came out, each one a stab in his chest.
“Grace, I was wrong. I’ve lost control. I’ll set boundaries with Lily.”
He paused, staring at the blinking cursor, unsure whether to continue. The master bedroom, now
dark and silent, loomed in his peripheral vision. He resumed typing.
“Have you gone back to the Alpha Palace? If you did, I’ll come get you and bring you back to our lair.”
He hesitated, typing again.
“Never mind, you mentioned before you didn’t want to stay in the new house. I’ll come stay with you, we can rent a place together. A change of scenery might help.”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing bitterly. It was clear. He knew bringing Lily home was wrong.
But he still did it
Sandy tossed and turned, checking his phone every few minutes, waiting for a message that would
never come,
As dawn began to break, the shrill ringing of his phone shattered the silence. He grabbed it instinctively, without even looking at the screen, his body already moving toward the door.
“It’s me, Luna of the Crescent Pack,” the voice on the other end was majestic and gentle..
I could feel the worry behind the voice,
Her voice was steady but edged with anxiety. “I’ve been feeling something wrong since yesterday afternoon, my heart’s been racing. I just have this bad feeling… I’ve been calling Grace through mind link, but she hasn’t answered. Is she okay?”
The sound of the cup in Sandy’s hand hitting the floor echoed through the room. He froze, his body trembling as the truth settled in.
“Grace didn’t go back to the Alpha Palace?” his voice cracked, disbelief and fear flooding his words.
He was starting to realize that things didn’t go the way he thought they would–and it was too late.
