Chapter 27
Ocean was the best thing to come out of the hell I lived through four years ago. I didn’t think he would even make it after everything I went through, but he was a fighter from the beginning. The
world didn’t want us, but here we were, shoving our middle finger back at them.
Four years ago, my life took a significant turn I never imagined; I met my father.
Marcel Boris Garcia is a Russian Spanish billionaire businessman. What were the odds that instead of drowning, as my attackers intended, I would be found by my biological father?
After my recovery began, I asked Marcel about my mother, Otaría Barau, and he told me what he knew about her. She was the woman he met and fell in love with after he visited Port Harcourt.
He had separated from his wife, Lenna, a year prior, and meeting my mother was a breath of fresh air. Their love story would not last because Lenna returned after seven months, wanting them to
give their marriage another shot.
When he told my mother, she was brokenhearted but told him to return to his wife, which he did, and their marriage improved. Four months after he returned to Madrid, he would receive a call from my mother with the news of her pregnancy. She told him she was keeping it, and he told her he wanted to be a part of his child’s life, as he and his wife had no conception.
Lenna told him he could bring his child, but he was to have no connection with Otaria. He told Otaria this, and she agreed. After she gave birth, Elena handed his child over to him but never told him they were two. He returned to Madrid with Valeria, where he and Lenna would raise her until Lenna’s death ten years later. He tried to find Otaria after Lenna’s death, and after a few months of trying, he learnt she had died during childbirth. When Valeria turned sixteen and began asking questions, he told her everything he knew and that she could visit her mother’s country someday when she was much older. She never did, though, because she died seven years ago.
Marcel told me fate had given him another chance, and he would not ruin it. He provided the best for me, from education to finance to lifestyle.
He enrolled me at the Universitat de Barcelona, which ranks the best in the country, so that I could pursue my major in business administration. Despite being pregnant with Ocean, I kept focused and graduated at the top of my class. I pursued a master’s degree in finance and marketing, which I finished two years ago.
Marcel invited me to the Gracia Group’s headquarters to join the team immediately after. I joined the team but told him I wanted to work my way like everyone else and would rather earn the people’s respect than have it handed to me. He was impressed and told me I could do whatever I

“Hola, big boy!?” I said that and played with his stomach while kissing his cheek. He laughed heartily, and his eyes flickered happily, “Como estas? (low are your

“I hope you didn’t give Grandpa much trouble.” I smiled at him.
He shook his head and said, “No, mama” He replied, and I kissed his forehead again.
“Go shower; we will wait for you.”
I did as told and returned twelve minutes later, and after saying grace, we ate.
“What shall I read you now?” I asked and skimmed through the books on the shelf.
I already tucked Ocean into bed, and all that was left was reading him the book of his choosing
“Hercules,” he replied.
I reached for the book and spent twenty minutes reading Ocean to sleep.
I leaned in and kissed his forehead, mumbling, “Sleep tight, Te amo (I love you)” Before leaving his

I came to my room and turned on the TV while I poured myself a glass of wine from the bar counter
across my room.
I sat on the bed and flipped through the channels, trying to find the one that would be a little entertaining among the many boring cable TVs. I scrolled on, and I saw something on the last celebrity gossip channel. I returned it only to find Oliver Plane’s face plastered on the TV with the
caption.

The image on the TV is then replaced with a video that shows Oliver and Cecil happy and walking out together, Oliver had his arms around her waist, and she had her diamond ring adorned finger

My stomach curled in annoyance, and I gulped the wine in my hand, but it didn’t subdue the displeasure or replace the bitter feeling in my mouth,
They didn’t get to live happily ever after–not after everything. That wasn’t how the world worked.
