Chapter 3
Kyle’s eyes were full of me, and he placed a kiss on my forehead–devout and gentle,
“Baby, you’re awake. I’ll make you some breakfast.”
Seeing him busy in the kitchen, I felt a moment of disconnection.
In the beginning, he didn’t know how to cook at all.
But I was a picky eater with a poor appetite,
To help me gain some weight, he learned several cookbooks and even got a nutritionist certification.
I thought back to the times when he would make me pancakes, his face covered in soot
I couldn’t help but smile softly.
Kyle glanced at me, his eyes full of love.
I turned away, my phone vibrating.
I picked up the call, and a crisp, pleasant male voice came through.
“Imela, everything’s ready on our side. When are you coming over? We’re all waiting for you.”
I thought for a moment.
“Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? What’s tomorrow?”
Kyle walked out of the kitchen, looking puzzled.
I ended the call, a faint smile on my lips.
“Tomorrow, I have a surprise for you.”
Kyle’s eyes sparkled, and he smiled like a child.
“Really? My wife is just too good to me.”

He leaned in to kiss me, but I subtly dodged him. “Go cook, stop being so cheeky.”
After dinner, Kyle washed the dishes and then turned to me with a proposal.
“Baby, there’s a case at the company today. I have to go.”
I didn’t say anything but stepped forward to adjust his tie.
“Go ahead.”
Kyle seemed reluctant, glancing back at me repeatedly.
I forced a smile.
Once the door clicked shut, the smile faded instantly.
I knew he wouldn’t be coming back today, because it was the anniversary of his relationship with
Linda.
Yesterday, the gift he brought me was missing a few pieces.
I returned to the room and began packing my things.
Dragging my suitcase, I placed a divorce agreement on the living room sofa.
I used to think I’d make a huge scene, smashing the house to pieces and making everyone suffer.
But now, I realized I didn’t care.
I just wanted to leave quietly, without saying a word or causing any unnecessary conflict.
At the airport, my phone rang.
Linda sent me a picture of the necklace Kyle had given her.
“Brother said, as long as I like it, all the best things in the world will be delivered to me.”
I switched to my alternate account and opened the chat with Kyle.
“Lawyer Smith, what should I do if the mistress brags to me about my husband’s gifts?”
“I’ll help you recover all the joint marital assets.”
I sent him all the evidence of his affair and the screenshots of Linda’s provocation.

“Lawyer Smith, I’m counting on you for the divorce.”
Once the documents were received, I immediately blocked him.
I then pulled out the SIM card and threw it away.
As the plane took off, my heart finally settled.
The plane landed.
A heavy rain had fallen over London.
The fresh, clean scent seemed to wash away all the dust and grime.
I pushed my suitcase, standing in the corridor, waiting for the rain to stop.
Suddenly, the rain in front of me disappeared, and a pair of shining black leather shoes stood in my
path.
“Imela, long time no see.”
I looked up, meeting his gaze.
“Oliver, long time no see.”
Oliver smiled lightly and took my suitcase.
“Let’s go, everyone’s waiting for you.”
In the private room of the restaurant, the room was filled with people.
These were my future colleagues, and through Oliver’s introduction, we were getting to know each
other.
After a while, we became familiar, laughing and talking more openly.
One of my colleagues patted Oliver’s shoulder and joked.
“Oliver, you’ve been single for so many years. It’s not because of Miss Barau, right?”
After a round of teasing, Oliver’s ears turned red.
His gaze toward me was intense, making me feel a little uneasy.

Oliver lowered his head, stood up,
“Imela, would you like to take a walk?”
I didn’t refuse.
The alcohol had gotten to my head a little, and I needed some fresh air.
Oliver was my senior, a year above me.
When I first entered school, I participated in the New Ideas Cup debate competition, and Oliver was
the one who led our team.
He was talented and accomplished, having received an offer from a law firm even before
graduation.
Afterward, he started his own firm, helping marginalized groups fight legal battles, quickly earning a reputation for himself.
He had once invited me to join his team, but at that time, I had already fallen for Kyle, devoting all
my attention to him.
Before Oliver left for overseas, he urgently asked me to meet him.
“I’m leaving tomorrow. Will you come to see me off?”
I shook my head, offering a polite smile.
Oliver paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and gathered the courage to speak.
“Then at least, as friends, can you give me something to remember you by?”
I searched through my things for a while, then took off a pearl from my hairpin and handed it to
him.
“Wish you all the best in the future, may everything go smoothly.”
My thoughts drifted back to the present.
