Oliver was chatting away beside me, and I caught a glimpse of a red string on his wrist.
Threaded through it was the pearl I had given him that year.
Walking side by side, the distance between us closed, until our hands brushed together.
I recoiled instinctively, feeling my face flush.
“Uh, well, it’s getting dark. Maybe we should head back.”
Oliver’s gaze softened, and the warm yellow streetlights cast a glow over him.
Suddenly, Oliver reached out his hand to me.
His voice was deep and pleasant, echoing in the quiet of the night.
“The famous Lawyer Imela Barau, welcome back to the battlefield.”
I hadn’t heard that title in a long time, and it made me feel like I was infused with new energy. I straightened my back.
I clasped his hand for a moment, sincerely saying, “Thank you.”
Meanwhile, in Toronto, Kyle had been searching for me like a madman.
When he received my packed–up files, Linda was still lying in his arms.
It wasn’t until he saw the contents of the file that Kyle’s face turned deathly pale, his lips trembling
uncontrollably.
“Who’s playing this prank…?”
He sent messages to the number he thought was mine, but only received a red exclamation mark.
A wave of panic and anxiety overtook him.,
Forgetting about Linda, who was now more eager than ever, Kyle hastily threw on clothes, dialing
my number as he rushed out the door.

Fear had him trembling uncontrollably, tears welling in his eyes,
Looking at those videos, Kyle finally realized just how reckless he had been.
When the call went unanswered again, Kyle shouted in frustration, slamming his fist on the steering wheel before smacking himself across the face,
Deep down, he had a vague suspicion that I was the one behind this.
But the thought of it made him shiver. After all this time, I had known about his betrayal, yet I had calmly watched him lie and put on a show.
He couldn’t forgive himself.
Kyle’s emotions shattered, and he kept murmuring, “She’ll forgive me… Imela will forgive me…”
Until he rushed back home, only to find the divorce agreement.
Kyle collapsed to his knees, tears pouring down as he couldn’t hold back his breakdown,
continuously dialing my number.
The house was just as it had been, with only one thing missing.
I was no longer there.
Kyle knew me well enough. He understood that this time, I was serious,
Linda arrived in a huff, her eyes brimming with tears as she pouted.
“You jerk! Didn’t you promise me you’d spend the anniversary with me today?!”
“If you keep treating me like this, do you believe I’ll tell…?”
Before she could finish her sentence, Kyle grabbed her throat tightly.
His eyes were bloodshot, his forehead veins bulging, gritting his teeth as he hissed.
“How dare you dance in front of Imela?!”
“Didn’t I warn you? Don’t let my wife find out!”
Linda was so terrified her face turned pale, and she desperately tried to pry Oliver’s hand off.

Oliver slapped her hard across the face, shouting, “Get lost!”
He couldn’t stop himself, slapping his own face repeatedly until blood started to seep from the
corner of his mouth.
“Imela, where the hell have you gone…”
I didn’t know any of this. All I knew was that I still had a long road ahead of me.
It had been a long time since I worked. On my first day back at the office, Oliver brought me a stack
of books to read.
The painful memories of cramming for exams in school came rushing back.
He had me reading, analyzing cases, and taking on lawsuits.
I quickly regained the rhythm of things.
In just a year, I had won many cases with the team, and my reputation soared. Before long, I became
a rising star in the industry.
Of course, this was Oliver’s exaggeration.
I gradually adapted to the work and life here, and I had never imagined that I would see Kyle again,
That day, as Oliver and I walked into the office, we overheard a colleague sighing.
“The firm across the street has hired a really formidable lawyer. No one can find any information on him, but all his cases have been wins.”
A sense of unease crept into my heart, but I didn’t think much of it.
Until in the courtroom, I saw Kyle, dressed in a well–tailored suit, his gaze burning into me.

They were my favorite red roses.
I smiled and took the flowers, about to say something when a hoarse male voice suddenly came
from behind me.
“Imela, I finally found you.”
I stopped walking but didn’t turn around.
Kyle’s eyes were red, and he took a few steps forward to grab my arm.
“Imela, are you still angry? I really know I was wrong.”
“You don’t know how crazy I’ve been looking for you this past year. I couldn’t find you anywhere,
until someone told me there was a skilled female lawyer in London.”
“Imela, I really miss you.”
